When I first read the Hunger Games, the main character Katniss was who I admire. I admire Katniss because of two traits she has. One trait that I admire from her is dependable, She stands out for her sister, Prim, to take her place in the Hunger Game, even though she knows the consequence of protect Prim might be death. She did this because Prim is her sister. From how she is willing to protect whose she loves, it shows others that they can trust in her. In my opinion, because of this trait she has, Rue is willing to team up with her and she is able to led the rebellion later on in the book. Another traits she has that I admire is independent. She has the strength to protect herself, her family and friends. For example, her courageous action
of goes to a forest to find foods for her family, even though she know it is dangerous and not allowed by the Capitol. By being independent, she can figure out a way to help herself, and eventually help the village to get freedom. Because of this two traits she has, she is able and willing to defend her friends and family.
There are many inferences you can make about the reaping and why Katniss thinks Prim is safe from the reaing, just by reading paragraphs 1 through 7. For example you can infer that the reaping is some sort of drawing or lottery from the quotes, "...since she's only entered once." and " ... but I'm powerless against the reaping." because it is something you must enter and are powerless against. You can infer that Katniss think Primrose is safe because of her age and how many times her name had been entered. Quotes from paragraph 2 and 7 help prove this. "...since she only entered once" is a valid reason Katniss think Prim is safe if she has only entered once the chances are pretty slim she will get chosen. Another example is " I didn't
Katniss and Theseus find themselves in similar situations that there are many literature parallels throughout both of their stories. She keeps arguing with Peeta whether or not she is going to go or not. Katniss wants to go and Peeta is saying she is going to stay behind. Peeta says “No, you’re not risking your life for me.”(274). Then Katniss lies and says she’s not going but really she just gives him spoonfuls of a syrup which actually makes him sleep so Katniss can sneak out and grab the medicine. Once she grabs the medicine Clove is saying that Cato, is out there hunting for Peeta. Clove said “I don't think you'll have much use for your lips anymore, want to blow Lover Boy one last kiss?”(286). When she gets back to Peeta she gives him the medicine and when they wake up it is much better than what it was before. “Much better, whatever you shot into my arm did the trick.”(291). Said Peeta. Katniss showed great bravery and courage when she ran out into the middle trying to grab that pack filled with supplies including the medicine.

In the novel Hunger Game, author Suzanne Collins narrates a girl name Katniss Everdeen who voluntarily replaces her younger sister, Prime, to be one of the tribute to participate in the hunger game. She is the family’s backbone after her father died in the mine accident and then the district only gives them a little compensation which it’s not enough for her family’s living. Soon, they run out of money and suffer from hunger. They live in the District 12 where it’s a poor and food shortage region. People often suffer from hunger and Katniss is of no exception. Turn me into some kind of monster that I’m not” (141). Katniss does not want to lose herself, which she never does. Katniss shows she is a good person by forming alliances and taking care of other tributes. Katniss does not think she is good but she really is even if she cannot see it.
Underestimated by her competitors, she was able to rise her way to the top by pulling out he secret weapons. Her hunting abilities, problem solving skills, and ability to think on the spot may not seem like super powers; however, they helped her survive and win the hunger games. Also, when Katniss and Peeta attempt suicide at the end of the game they make the authorities change their mind. By this action Katniss and Peeta manage to affect the decision of the gamemakers which is the first time it has happened. Katniss can be seen as the intellectual leader who stood for what she believed in as she didn’t kill her male counterpart. The president of the Capitol hates the fact that Katniss is making changes to the game although she does this indirectly.
Katniss Everdeen is very determined. If she wants to do something, she tries until she achieves it. This is proved when Katniss wins the Hunger Games after she is told that she should try to win, by Prim, her sister and throughout the games she remembers these words and kind of uses them as her guide. She is also very strong in mental and physical ways. Her worst character trait is that she lets kind people root into her, so if someone pretends to be kind she will let them root in which means she lets them know about her and becomes easygoing with them. “A kind Peeta Mellark is far more dangerous to me than an unkind one. Kind people have a way of working their way inside me and rooting there,” (page 49). This proves that kind people have a way of rooting into her. Another important trait is that she is a survivor. She knows the way to get food to survive in any condition, like in the Hunger Games where she had to find food in the huge jungle while she was being hunted by other tributes.
