According to research, Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. Genetically-modified plants, animals and processed foodstuffs have been introduced to the international marketplace in the 1990s. Most developed nations does not consider GMOs safe. In more than 60 countries it is required by law a label saying if the foods contain or do not contain GMOs but, the United States is not one of them. Genetically modified foods should be labelled by law. Foods that contain GMOs should be label because we have the right to know what we are eating, every day we eat foods that can possibly be genetically modified but, there is no way for us to know because these products do not contain labels saying if they are or not. hormones. Other may believe we shouldn’t label genetically modified foods for many reasons including the fact that labelling of GMOs will cause companies to lose money. When biotechnologists manipulate the plant’s DNA they are able to come up with new solutions to grow crops easily and more efficiently. When companies are able to grow more crops using the minimum profit they are able to sell their products for a cheaper price. Cheaper food has its own advantages. It is easier to combat hunger. Not many will suffer from malnutrition. People can afford food. If companies label their products as containing GMOs they can possibly lose money because customers will prefers organic foods over this products. When people are aware of the truth they find better options. Unless, they can’t afford the higher prices. Companies would have to advertise their “GMOs free” products and this will be the new “Low Fat”. We all have the right to know what we are eating and feeding our families. When companies are not required to label their products we are unaware of the ingredients or the products that were used to grow or make these foods. We must have the right to know and make the call if the products at the grocery stores are appropriate and healthy for us and our family. Some families prefer certain foods over others and it is unfair that they are unaware of how these products were cultivated. It is our money and we should know what we are expending it on. In conclusion, the labelling of GMOs has both its upsides and downsides but the advantages are greater. The consumers should have the right and know if the food they buy has been genetically modified. The labelling of foods containing GMOs should be required by law.
A very valid point brought up by Clause (Say ‘no’), Hemphill, and Banerjee (both G.M.O. and the U.S.), is that consumers already have an easy and effective option to steer clear from GMOs: buying organic products. Through Hemphill’s and Banerjee’s article, we are informed that United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) “presently offers an organic certification for crops and processed food products, which by definition prohibits the use of GMO ingredients” (Page 455-466). This is certainly a label that has the ability to help concerned customers know exactly what they are eating. The co-authors call this solution the “Voluntary Labeling Strategy.” There is, however, one issue with this: not all products that don't contain GMOs qualify as organic. The resolution lies in an upcoming proposal from the U.S. Food and Drug administration (FDA). It's called “Voluntary Guidelines” and it allows, but doesn't force, GMO-free products to display a label of their own. I believe that this is a much smarter option than labeling every item containing GMOs because it is not binding by law, which would provide consumers with all of the benefits they need to choose the right foods for their preferences, while saving on all of the unnecessary extra costs discussed
The technological advances are increasing each year, and electronics are not the only things upgraded. The food eaten in the United States has also been touched by science in the form of GMOs. Although GMOs have been in the US food industry for almost twenty years, consumers should have the right to know what is in our food with mandatory GMO labeling.

Genetically modified foods are developed by combining genes from two different organisms which alters it's DNA and do not occur naturally. Biotechnology is relatively new so like most people, I turned to research to argue this issue with facts. In my opinion, genetically modifying foods have more harmful effects than they do beneficial. An English doctor, named Arpad Pusztai, did a study on rats being fed genetically modified foods. His study found out that rats that ate genetically modified potatoes had pre-cancerous cells, smaller brains, smaller livers, smaller testicles, and damaged immune systems. After finding this out, he then changed the eating habits of the rats by interchanging between feeding them organic potatoes and genetically modified potatoes for two weeks at a time.
