Character Matters Character is one of those words that when people hear it they all think about something different to make sense of it. Some may think about different people that have character and most of the time these people have a crazy personality. Other people might think about themselves and if they have a lot of character or not. All of these things we think about are what helps explain our own character and what each different person believes in. Character has many different aspects and some of the main parts are courage, honesty and respect. Courage is an aspect in our lives that we should all have in order to be able to stick up for what we believe is right and just. The amount of courage that we have can show a lot about our character because it is a way that we can show others our character. With courage we can show others what we chose to believe in and stand up for those beliefs because they make us who we are. We can show people our courage by standing up for our faith and telling people what we believe is truly and morally right. This is an important part of our character because it shows part of who we are and by showing others who we are we learn more about ourselves. This is just part of what shows who we are though, there are still so many more aspects that help explain character. …show more content…
Honesty is a part of our personality that shows we have to be truthful to feel more complete. Without honesty there can be no trust because people will stop believing what they are being told. We can show people our honesty by telling them how we feel about a certain problem that is in our world today and truthfully saying what we believe. This part of our personality is important because it shows a side of us that every person should know. Honesty in our lives helps us show respect which is also important to our character because it helps show our true colors and who we truly are on this
To have a good story, there must be good characters. Characters help the reader relate to the plot and struggle of the story, as well as creating a picture of the scenes on each page. But what exactly makes a character? What defines their personalities and relatableness to the reader? The way a character thinks, acts, and views the world are influenced, much like in the real world, by the people and places around them.
Character is often the setting stone on what a person is judged upon. For someone to have character, they must noticeably stand out, and do extraordinary tasks that a normal student would not usually do. From school activities to sports clubs, I myself carry unique characteristics that set me apart from other students.
...g and appreciation of qualities of characters, and hence, a deeper understanding of underlying motives and psyche. Intricate and methodical characterization is crucial to grasp the full meaning of a narrative.
The things that make one different are the things that cause the world to change and lead to conformity. Uniqueness is a characteristic that is in everyone; no one person is the same. In this way, Equality 7-2521 from Anthem, a novel written by Ayn Rand, conforms to society on his outward actions to keep him safe, but on this inside, his drive for individuality and not being “normal” allows him to discover a tunnel in which he discovers multiple things like electricity. In a similar aspect, I seek to with my mind, as if a moving vehicle, swerve sharply to the opposite direction to avoid indifference and achieve my maximum potential.
By definition the word character means moral or ethical quality. My definition of character is that what defines you as a person, your personality and how you act but to have a good character you have to have honesty, courage and integrity and generally being a role model to others. There are so many people out there that have goals that would not only benefit them but would benefit everyone around them and some of those people are Gandhi, Martin Luther king Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. These are just the few people who help me shape my ideas of character but also as a person. They fight for what they think/thought was right without any violence but they use powerful words and hey speak the truth we all deserve to be equals. They all had the
What makes a persons character ? Does the society tell them how to live or is it the environment that builds someones character. there are many attributes that can make ups a persons character. The individual though, can make their own based off things like their values, traits, morals, and qualities. Society and environment does play a big role in this though, telling you how you should act, telling you who you should be, but can this role play from the society and environment actually affect your own morals and qualities that make up our character.
Authors develop characters’ personalities in order to add depth to their story and allow readers to feel more connected to the characters. Beyond this, characterization also allows authors to develop the themes of their stories in a more clear manner. A prime example of this would be in the poem Judith, where the author contrasts Judith and Holofernes’ personalities in order to develop the major themes of heroism and having faith in God.
Kathryn Forbes’ mother had lied to her kids their entire life about having a bank account. Her reasoning for doing so was so that her kids could have a sense of security, and not stress about their financial situation while she took on the burden of worrying. This speaks about her character because it shows that she is selfless and cares for her kids. In Source D, “Had explained that a pilot-in-training had misread his navigational instructions and made a wrong turn” Some people might argue that this choice should not define his (the pilots’) character, however, it speaks about some of his character because this was something that greatly impacted others and he could have made a better choice. Regardless choices can reveal ones character because a lot of times one subconsciously make decisions based on their character/beliefs and if one fails to do something it is a reflection of what one
They are important because if they’re not detailed, they are boring, and when you have boring characters the reader isn’t intrigued and don’t want to read the story. All characters need to have specific characteristics that make them that character. If stories didn’t have characters with those specific features and details, then all characters would be the same and nobody would be interested in the story. In an interview, Lindsay Steward said, “Characters need to be authentic,…they need to make decisions based on what their beliefs and values would dictate, rather than simply to move the plot forward.”
An example of one of these types of characters is Bender from the movie The Breakfast Club. Bender is portrayed as a tough guy who doesn’t have a care in the world. The movie wants the audience to dislike him and makes him out to be someone who doesn’t care about anyone but himself. When I watched this film I started not to like him as well, but as the movie went on I wanted to see someone break down his wall, to uncover his true personality. I was rooting for a character to change him and display the soft side I knew he had in him. These types of characters intrigue me because I know deep down they have a heart like everyone else and there is a specific reason they have their guard up. I like seeing another character break down the walls and expose their true colors. In this movie, Claire is the target for a lot of Benders jokes and torment but she finds a way to defend him. Claire has sympathy towards Bender throughout the movie and as the audience I cannot seem to see what she sees in him just yet. As the film goes on, Bender and Claire become closer and start to form a strong bond, breaking down each other’s walls. The audience starts to see the real reason that Bender acts the way he does, and it stems back from his childhood, and having hatred towards his father. Benders father was physically, mentally and emotionally abusive towards him. After finding these details out, Bender starts to
Honesty and integrity are two major core Catholic and humanist values that many students in modern times seem to lack. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, honesty is defined as "the quality of being fair and truthful. " Honesty plays a huge role in our society and daily lives. Honesty is a key characteristic that makes up a person, and defines who they truly are. Usually, if a person is very honest, which according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary means, “the quality of being honest and fair.”
The Pillars of Character are trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, caring, fairness and good citizenship. The characters play
Being honest and having a reputation of never lying makes people trust them more. People are more likely to come up to a person who tells the truth and ask them a question. They are more likely to get the right answer and not a lie. People who tell the truth are more respected and aren't looked down at for being a liar. People can be trusted more when they constantly tell the truth. When they ask if they can go out and do something, they are more likely to be able to because others trust them and they don't have to worry.
What is Honesty? Honesty is viewed in many different ways and for myself and everyone else; honesty is the biggest thing that will get one through life. People view people different if they lie, cheat, or even steal things but if you’re honest with everyone they will forgive you instead of lying and having to lie to back up your first lie. Just being honest should be everyone’s goal in life. It speaks to ones character to stand up and take ownership of the truth.
Honesty is a characteristic that everyone should possess. However, being honest is a difficult task for many people. Living honestly means allowing a person’s true self to be exposed to others. Honesty is considered owning up to one’s wrongdoings and not lying, cheating, or stealing. Being honest is a trait that many people believe is obsolete. Even though every person interprets honesty differently, it all stems back to telling the truth. Being honest allows a person to earn respect from their peers. Honesty is allowing oneself to be completely exposed by being truthful.
