Women nowadays are having children even when there not mentally or finically ready to support the child. They’re having kids for all the wrong reasons. An 18-year-old women from Pottsville, Pennsylvania is in jail because she physically abused her 2-month year old boy. Early Tuesday morning on August 26 the women became frustrated with her baby boy and threw him against the wall. People who live in the same neighborhood as the women talk about how there disgusted. One man said “He needs to be in a better place with someone who can actually take care of him”. Which I agree with a hundred percent. Women should be mentally, financially, and emotionally prepared before having a child. Before having a child, you need to be mentally prepared for it. You must understand that child is going to become your priority. Women these days are having children for all the worng reasons for example they think that having a child is the answer to saving there relationship as if the baby is a bandage. Everything you do will effect your child. I interviewed Ruweyda Jama single mother of two, she agreed with my point and stated “After having my second child I set my life to making them both happy, but I couldn’t do it without being …show more content…
You have to know how you’re going to pay for the child’s needs such as diapers, clothes, milk, education, and etc. Ruweyda said “my childrens father pays me child support, but its nothing compared to the amount of money I spend to take care of my kids. I work full tim to take care of my baies they way they should”. Many women think child support is the best option for needs like that, but child support will only get you so far. Child support only covers a few expenses monthly, which is barely enough for a mother to take care of her child. In cases where people take financial help from the government, they need to have at least a job to support their
Perhaps the first thing one must consider is why there are increasing numbers of poor women having children out of wedlock. One explanation of this concept that Edin and Kefalas use is that the poor women view raising their own child as a sense of accomplishment. For instance, they explain “in the social world inhabited by poor women, a baby born into such conditions represents an opportunity to prove one 's worth.” (11.3). Essentially, the women of a low social class view their children as an opportunity for success. It represents a sense of hope and fulfillment that the mother feels when she has a child. Also, interestingly enough, women of a poor class viewed “marriage as a luxury” (11.2). There are also reasons that involve a sense of fear in control. For instance, Edin and Kefalas explain that “poor women do not want to marry until they are set… a young mother often fears marriage will mean a loss of control” (13.3). Essentially, a poor women who has a child
explains that the cost of having a child is much more of a burden for the women of the
Since the case of Mary Ellen Wilson in 1874, child abuse has seen it’s share of light in published news. It is disheartening to read countless stories of future generations being harmed to the extent of psychological damage or even death. Child abuse as a whole has been addressed multiple times in various news blogs, however, nothing has been done to work towards abolishing it at a larger level. The future of America is in jeopardy based on the level of abuse that children endure. Childhelp states that approximately 5 children die every day at the hands of child abuse. America struggles to find equality, and by bystanding the stripping of its youth, continual prolonging is inevitable. Raising this nation’s children in means of nurturing and care is the first step to uplifting America as a whole. In 2012 alone, 1593 of America’s children died at the hands of child abuse, 70.3% of which were younger than the age of three (Safe Horizon). In order to prevent further child abuse, the American government should address stricter child protection laws, psychological stability, and an increase the recognition of those that have released their stories.
While most expectant mothers are planning for baby showers, shopping for maternity clothes and preparing the baby’s nursery, the incarcerated mother-to-be has to remain in a constant state of alertness and preparedness for situations that can put her and her unborn baby at risk, in an environment that is both intimidating and routinely violent. (Hutchinson et. al., 2008)
It may not be the right time for the woman to have a child or she simply may not desire to had a kid. The circumstances, such as money, relationship or home issues, the woman is in could not be acceptable for a child to be brought into. Women could get pregnant by rape and she does not want to be remnded everyday of her rapist nor does she want to carry his child. The University of California at San Francisco conducted a study in which proved that women who were unable to get an abortion were twice as likely to be below the poverty level. Seventy six percent of women who could not have an abortion had unemployment benefits compared to the forty four percent of the women who did have an
For many prisons there facilities aren’t adequate for the pregnant women that are being held there. In a state survey it was found that less then 50% of facilities have written policies specifically relating to medical care for pregnant women and only 48% offer prenatal services. Only 21% offer prenatal counseling and 15% offer counseling to help mothers find suitable placements for their infants after birth. Women that are in the system do not receive regular pelvic exams or sonograms, that they receive little to no education about prenatal care and nutrition, that they have the inability to alter their diets to suit their changing caloric needs, and that they could be shackled during delivery and can not have labor support from family members. There are many reasons why pregnant women should have alternatives.
More than one in three women in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2012). Thirty to sixty percent of perpetrators tend to also abuse children in the household (Edelson, 1999). Witnessing violence between parents or caretakers is considered the strongest risk factor for transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next (Break the Cycle, 2006). State legislatures are increasingly passing statues that encourage participants in the Criminal Justice System to attack the issue of domestic violence more aggressively. Some states still fail to realize that IPV involving a woman that is pregnant should be considered a felony because it affects the well-being of the unborn child.
The birth of a child is usually a wonderful and priceless occasion. However, on June 5, 2015, an eleven-year-old girl gave birth to a newborn girl. Approximately a year before she gave birth, her 40-year-old father repeatedly sexually assaulted her. In this case, the unprepared eleven-year-old child decided to have the baby. This is a prime example that illustrates that the right to abortion should always be vested in the woman.
Being a mother is a lifelong job that requires copious time, energy, and money. There are myriad different reasons in which a woman would consider getting an abortion. The decision is often tragic and painful for the mother. It is one of the biggest choices a woman will make. Many people have strong beliefs about abortion, and if a mother makes a decision that they do not agree with they sometimes turn against the mother, and enkindle egregious feelings about their decision for the rest of their life. Indeed a woman may not get an abortion for selfish reasons or out of convenience, but out of a desire to protect certain important values such as her own health or a decent standard of living for the other members of the family. Additional intentions for having abortion include rape, financial difficulties, obligation by family members, or danger to the baby’s health (Roleff
A pregnant women committed a crime and must serve a 10 ten prison sentence, she is at a crossroads with what to do with the baby, keep it in jail with her or let it die on the streets? The choice is obvious. Mothers should be able to have their babies with them in prison due to a variety of reasons. Having their babies with them in prison helps with the early mother-child bonding that is crucial for the lifelong success of the child, it helps the mother become a better person while reducing the recidivism rate, and because the mothers can raise their children in a safer environment compared to the streets with no assistance.
Abortion advocates ask “What about the mother?” and the prolife advocates answer “what about the baby?”- The Feminist Case against Abortion. Serrin M. Foster. Sept 2015. Web jan 2015. http://americamagazine.org/issue/feminist-case-against-abortion. This is a very serious subject in our society today. Almost 42 million induced abortions happen all over the world each year. This is 42 million unborn children that never had a chance or even a say in what their futures would hold. This is not preventing poverty; we have proved that, this is our country not holding anyone responsible for their actions. Those that have supported this action are just as guilty as those that have committed the injustice act. These children did not ask to be made
It is clear that every woman has the right to make their own decisions no matter of the situation they may be in. The decision the woman makes should never have to be compared or even justified against what other people think due to the fact the woman will be the one bearing the child and going through the whole nine month process. What would you do in a situation where you were just too young to give birth to a child? What would you do if you were not in a financially stable environment? Why would you bring an unwanted human being to life, costing hatred, frustration and agony towards a baby that does not deserve it? Is this what society really wants thousands of neglected children around the world?
There are many different areas to consider when preparing for and having a newborn. Whether the pregnancy was planned or unplanned or the couple is married or not, a newborn baby brings new responsibilities. Having a baby also forces people to make adjustments both financially and within the family. Parents also express concerns and expectations when having a newborn comma especially when it is their first; including what roles each parent and family member should play, how much confidence they have in their parenting skills, and how much financial strain would be placed on the family once the newborn has arrived. The newest issue in today’s society is the fact that many women are delaying childbirth and having more children in their later years of life.
Having children is one of the most amazing things in the world but some children are created with the wrong idea behind them. RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) reports that there is “on the average of 237,868 people, ages 12 or older that have become victims of rape and sexual assault yearly.” Some of these rape and sexual assault crimes result in women becoming pregnant with a baby that they had not planned on. Women who become pregnant due to rape and sexual assault are usually very eager to get rid of their baby due to the fact that their child would possibly be a reminder of a part in their life that they would not like to recall.
Many people in this world have a payment plan they get every month called child support. Child support is when two people have a child together and they don’t stay together but the parent who has the child less pays child support to the one with custody of the child. This money is to go towards things the child needs or things to help with paying for things. Some parents take this for granted and will spend it on things for themselves instead of the child. Child support was made to help the parent with custody of the child because they have the child in their care almost all the time and child is expensive and it was made to help that parent take care of that child because not everyone can afford it on their own.
