Why Do School Uniforms Take Away Student Individuality?

Though some believe that school uniforms take away student individuality. For others, they can see that through the implementation of school uniforms students will not only gain a sense of confidence, they will also be more likely to carry that professionalism into their future careers. I believe that school boards across America should require students to wear school uniforms. For years, school board officials have struggled with the idea of whether they should implement a school uniform or just enforce a strict dress code. Many high schools, both public and private, have adopted the school uniform concept. Having school uniforms can prove to be extremely beneficial. They are rebellious and don't like taking orders from anybody. These characteristics influence the way they dress. Holes in their jeans? So, what? Profanity on their graphic tees? What's wrong with that? Shorts and skirts that barely cover their backside? Teenagers couldn't care less what they look like or how others view their fashion choices. Administrators have tried to set dress codes in place, but students rarely follow those rules. So, how could a school board reign in their teenage students' outrageous attire? Implementing a school uniform would not only teach students self-respect but also class. If teenage girls wear a nice knee length skirt, blazer, and stockings, then they will see that they look more professional than wearing an old tattered jacket or ripped up jeans. This professionalism will lead to them feeling self respect and pride in the way they hold themselves. If young men wore khaki pants and nice sweater vests, instead of gross cutoff shirts and baggy jeans they will hold themselves to a higher standard of class. Showing class and developing self-respect will not be the only gain to these students, they will also be able to avoid the stress of school clothes
