For many years there has been a countless abundance of couples who have wanted to marry, but due to their sexual orientation were unable to do so. Sexual orientation is a highly controversial topic and has been so for years not only in the U.S., but all over the world. In Dublin, Ireland Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan were one of the numerous gay couples refused marriage; however, the couple got married in Canada in 2003 but had trouble gaining the court’s acknowledgement of their marriage (Associated) since they were under the Defense of Marriage Act which was endorsed in 1996 by the then current president, Bill Clinton (Supreme). Gay/Lesbian couples should have the right to marry if they decide to carry out the action, it is …show more content…
Restricting lesbian and/or gays the right to marry is bringing back the feeling and reality of segregation (just a different type of segregation). As stated in the Constitution, all people have the right to marry. Denying them the right to marry is taking away the right every person should have. For some individuals, being gay or lesbian is against their beliefs and therefore they refused to marry someone of the same sex. Gay/Lesbian couples do not decide to be gay, therefore it is not a sin. A reason that some bring up to prove that gay/lesbian couples should not be allowed the right to marry like everyone else (Muskal). Another reason that some also try to justify their beliefs is the fact that gay/lesbian couples cannot reproduce. If this were allowed to be a valid argument, then we must also refuse infertile couples the right to marry. There is no difference between the two couples besides the fact that one couple is male and female while the other are of the same gender. Granting gay/lesbian couples the right to marry will give them a semblance of equality and this feeling of equality would ease the feeling of segregation from straight …show more content…
In the Old Testament The Book of Leviticus 18:22 it states “ Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with woman; that is detestable,” God is voicing that people of the same sex should not have relations seeing as that is a sin. In the New Testament, 1 Corinthians , Corinthians 6:9 it states “ Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men…” It later goes on to state in Romans 1: 26-32 that having relations with the same sex is a sin that may be justified by death. In conclusion, having homosexual relations is against the beliefs and sacred word of God. However, the Bible under no circumstances claims that homosexual marriage is a sin. In addition to the fact, the Bible doesn’t endorse any sort of marriage over another (Jefferson). The creation of Adam and Eve is precisely another being created from man. In Genesis 2:21-23 it states that God took one of Adam’s ribs and generated a human being named Eve to be his companion. Therefore, Adam is really marrying a human being that was part of man classified as a woman, which could be considered homosexuality as Eve was once part of man. In the books of Samuel it narrates a story on how Jonathan, the son of King Saul, and
God has declared through His loving kindness and His righteousness how He enjoys heterosexual relationships, as Creator of man and woman. God created a woman from Adam’s rib so that Adam would not be alone. Upon completion of God creating woman, God asked Adam to name her; Adam declared she would be called woman as she was created with man’s rib, but her name will be Eve as she is the first woman. Therefore, that pleased God, and we have the first marriage. A marriage where to people man and woman come together. They were creatively designed by God to fit each other. God did not create man to lay with another man, as their bodies are not designed to fit or complement each other. Adam was given instructions from God not to eat from the tree of knowledge and as head of the marriage; it was his responsibility to enforce God’s command. Yet he failed and ate with Eve from the tree. And later that day, as God was walking in the garden in the coolness of the day, He called out to Adam. Adam and Eve were hiding from Him, as they knew they blew it. When God questioned Adam why did he eat from the tree, Adam blamed Eve. God is fair and just and He loves us all. Even when they had sinned against God, God loved them and clothed them with animal skins. In order for Him to provide the animal skins, He had to kill the animal.
Indeed, as we have already observed, it is contrary to God’s law. God’s love for homosexuals is no less than His love for the liar, the thief, and the pedophile. He sent Jesus into the world and then revealed his life and teaching and the purpose of his death and resurrection through the gospel, in order that you and I might be saved from our sin. The conditions for ALL sinners are the same: You must believe in the Lord Jesus, repent of your sins and be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 2:36-38). After which, you are raised to walk in the newness of life (Romans 6:1-14).
The Holy Bible and its various renditions is the most common religious book that many religions have founded from. The first collection of writings of the bible can be dated back as far as 1500 years, which is 3500 years after homosexuality existed. The bible looks at homosexuality as an abomination and sinful, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22), “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality . . .” (1 Corinthians 1:26-28). There are nearly eighty bible verses about homosexuality being sinful and sacrilegious (Open Bible). Not all religions had the same view on homosexuals,
He stated, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? (Matthew 19:4-5). The passage that Jesus alluded to is taken from Genesis 2:24, where we find God’s original plan for marriage. Nowhere in the Old or New Testament do we find authority or approval for homosexual marriages. This was not God’s plan. Just because our society accepts them, does not imply that God approves
Homosexuality as a Sin The topic of homosexuality in religion has many sides. There are those who believe that it is a sin in God’s eyes and according to the Bible, and there are those who believe that the God and the Bible are not specific to homosexuals. It is a tough debate based on whether you are a religious person, how you were raised, and where your morals and ethics stand. You cannot truly believe one way without taking into account the other side and having valid proof to back it up. Those who believe that homosexuality is wrong do so by quoting certain phrases from the Bible.
Homosexuality dates back to times when even before the bible was being written. Some examples of homosexuality references in the bible are in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, and Romans 1:26-27. The bible, however, does not state anything about 2 women being together. The reason for this is because at the time, men usually married more than one woman (this is still happening, as it is a cultural normal for some cultures). In many cultures it is unacceptable to be gay.
An array of lost thoughts screened over a lost person, Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance leaves you astray in your mind and makes you wonder what the movie is actually about, by the end. Birdman is obviously a daringly bewildering venture by Writer and Director Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu. But is it good enough to sweep the Oscars? That’s what most of us would be thinking at the moment. Some would beg to differ.
“It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married” (Procon.org), said Barack Obama the 44th and current president of the United States. The gay right movement started in 1969, riots, struggles, and problems followed after. In today’s society, it has been showed that people are opening up to gay rights. There has been effort in protecting the gays and discrimination against gays is now considered a hate crime and is illegal. However, gay rights still to this day struggle with state and federal legal circumstances. Same- sex marriage needs to be legal, couples who choose to be of the same-sex should be allowed to celebrate their commitment with each other the way heterosexual couples get to, both publicly and society acceptable.
Gay and lesbian unions have been for a long time a subject that no one liked to discuss. For the last few decades, gays and lesbians have come out and expressed their sexuality preferences. Many believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it's against the moral. It's against the definition of marriage, which is considered as the union of a man and a woman as a husband and wife. Same sex marriage should be legalized because the way society views the union of lesbian and gays can a change. Another reason why same sex marriage should be legalized is that children that are issued from a gay or lesbian couple will be loved and raised in a family that is legally recognized under the law. Lesbians and gays also deserve to have the same rights as heterosexuals.
There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry (Schiffen 495). Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as “ a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife” (What 1). Under these guidelines, it is quite obvious that gay couples would not be eligible for marriage. People against homosexual marriage also say that it is a person’s choice to be gay. Since the individual chooses to be a homosexual, they should not be given special privileges. Another argument that you hear is that these couples should not get married simply because of the torment and ridicule they would be faced with in their everyday lives. There are news reports from across America telling about how a gay person was beaten or killed just because they were looked at as different. Some of these people would end up the target of verbal abuse and maybe even physical abuse, just because some heterosexual people see them as different.
Many Christians have never fully read the bible and base their understanding of it on word of mouth. Looking at it closer, one would notice that many parts of the bible are not of any use or are mostly rejected in today’s society, which is why we should reevaluate its teachings and revoke any that are no longer needed. Even the Pope has gone against scripture that is unacceptable in our world today. “If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them?” This is a quote from Pope Francis, stating that as long as a person does good, who is anyone to judge them. In the Old Testament it says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” (NKJ, Leviticus 18:22) and “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” (NKJ, Leviticus 20:13) Not only do these quotes condemn homosexuality they illustrate the lack of equality due to the lack of representation of women in the law. In the New Testament, Jesus never directly mentions homosexuality, but instead condemns all forms of sexual immoral behavior. “What comes out of

Homosexuals believe that no sin is greater than the other and that people against same sex marriage are sinning for judging them. The bible states “Judge not, lest ye be judged.” Only God can judge and he has the last say. God loves everyone equally the same and they feel like if God can still love them, why cannot we. Therefore, homosexuals who want to be married just want the same rights and treatments as heterosexuals.
Many people believe in a traditional marriage between a man and a woman. God created man and woman to be faithful and produce children. Same-sex marriage is contrary to the word of God and the laws of nature; therefore, it is incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. Many biblical scriptures talk about how immoral same-sex marriage is.
Denying people to get married is a form of discrimination. People are being treated differently because of their sexual orientation and it is morally wrong. Gay marriage has no effect on heterosexuals. So why are so many heterosexuals against it? The arguments against gay marriage are unreasonable. Some believe that being gay is unnatural or influences children to be gay. Studies show that there is no difference between children raised by same sex or straight couples.
