Atlantis is an ancient island that supposedly existed over 9,000 years ago that mysteriously vanished into the sea in just a single day. There have been many theories regarding the existence of Atlantis, some with very convincing arguments but there is still no proof that it actually exists. With tools like Photoshop, it is hard to know if people are telling the truth because they could easily edit the photos they claim they’ve taken. In the course of the last couple of hundred years, researchers, historians, authors and adventurers have talked about whether it at any point existed or not. Not at all like numerous different legends and stories of lost islands, we know precisely when and where the tale of Atlantis initially emerged. The story was first told in two of Plato's discoursed, the "Timaeus" and the "Critias," composed around the time of 330 BC.
One of the theories is that Atlantis was the place Antarctica is presently. The theory discusses how more than 12,000 years’ prior the Earth's outside layer moved dislodging the mainland that moved toward becoming Antarctica from an area much further north than it is today. This more sultry landmass known as Atlantis was home to a

The earth’s rotation acts on these unsymmetrically deposited masses, and produces centrifugal momentum that is transmitted to the rigid crust of the earth. The constantly increasing centrifugal momentum produced in this way will, when it has reached a certain point, produce a movement of the earth’s crust over the rest of the earth’s body… This is claiming that if Antarctica shifted south and parts of the Northern hemisphere moved away from the arctic zone this suggests other areas must have shifted into the arctic area and become much more cold. Although the Earth Crust Displacement theory seems improbable it still boosts interesting questions for geology and other
15. The pictures above show how the continents on Earth’s surface have changed position over a very long period of time. What explains this change? (S6E5e, f)

Scientists sometimes use erratics to help determine ancient glacier movement.” (NSIDC, 2014). To understand the unique aspects of a gorge created in just a few days, it is necessary to look back to the events that occurred 100,000 years ago. Described by James Lovelock in his book, The Ages of Gaia: A Biography of Our Living Earth, Milankovitch Cycles define the regular consistency of the Earth's glacial and interglacial periods.... ...
Now that we know the foundation of the Atlantis myth we can now speculate if this is even possible with today’s science and geography. Atlantis was said to be bigger than Asia Minor and Libya combined. This statement made by Plato in the Critias is most likely not true because Atlantis would have to be in the Mediterranean Sea or within a few miles of the Mediterranean Sea such as the Atlantic Ocean or Indian Ocean.
According to the available data and calculations, the global mean rate of seafloor spreading was faster 100 million years ago than in the present. Moreover, the absence of large polar ice sheets in this time period indicates that the global climate was warmer than it is today. Such correlation between the seafloor spreading rate and global climate seems to support the BLAG hypothesis, which suggests that the rate of the carbon dioxide input to the atmosphere was higher 100 million years ago than in the present. The BLAG hypothesis may also explain the global cooling period between 55 and 15 million years ago, when there was a general decrease in the seafloor spreading rate. However, geologic evidence shows that the greater global cooling occurred between 55 million years ago and the present, which is not consistent with the BLAG hypothesis (Raymo and Ruddiman, 1992). The historical records of the ocean chemistry, specifically of the varying calcium and magnesium concentrations, also do not have an observable association with the seafloor spreading rate as expected from the BLAG hypothesis (Kump, 2008). Furthermore, the increased chemical weathering in the past 40 million years of global cooling seems to contradict the idea of chemical weathering being a negative feedback mechanism to regulate climate changes (Raymo and Ruddiman,
The Vinland Map has been at the center of controversy ever since it appeared around 1957. It depicts several islands in the Atlantic Ocean, but more importantly, an island called Vinland. This island is believed to be part of Canada or even Northeastern America. If the map is truly genuine, then it pre-dates Columbus’ discovery of America by more than 50 years (Gorman, 2002). However, there has been constant doubt surrounding its origins and authenticity. These issues have divided scientists into two camps which seem to ride circles around one another. As soon as new evidence arises, someone disputes it with counterarguments that are just as strong. The controversy has focused most recently on two issues: the ink used to draw the map, and the parchment that it is drawn upon.
In modern times, discussion around the myth of Atlantis generally consists of debate regarding whether or not Atlantis was a real civilization. One side attempts to paint the myth of Atlantis as a historical fact based on corroborating reports from within Egypt during the reported time of its existence while the other side simply tries to show that the myth of Atlantis is a cautionary tale of hubris to prove a point made in the Timaeus and Critias by Plato. While we still do not know if either side is completely correct, it is assumed that the myth of Atlantis was used by Plato in order to show what happens to a perfect society when their own hubris came to be
Many have spoken about the illuminating question of what exactly happened to the lost continent of Atlantis. This question continues to be the subject popular theorizing on television and all across the internet. Millions are wondering where this land was located, how and when it could have disappeared, who lived there and why these events occurred anyway? No one can be quite sure, but there are many hypotheses that exist in the world as to what truly happened. Some are legitimate scholarly or based of of the scientific method and archaeological works, while others are just true pseudoscience. Many claim earthquakes or tsunamis destroyed Atlantis, the land of the God, Poseidon. Others claim due to geographical features Atlantis is in Spain,

We all know that the tilt of the Earth accounts for the seasons, but many folks don’t know that the tilt, or obliquity, of the Earth has changed over time. During a period of 41,000 years, the tilt of the Earth’s axis changes from 22.1° to 24.6°. This wobble, like other facets of the Milankovitch Cycles, is caused by gravitational interactions with other planets.
Earth was formed 4.8 billion years ago (3) . It became the home for hazelnuts because it had an atmosphere and environment which allowed for life to prosper in later years. Earth’s surface was once composed of a single landmass, known as Pangaea (1).Over time it was broken up into seven different plates which were free to move as a result of movements in the hot, semi-liquid magma beneath the...
The people who lived on the island are now called the Minions (Thera). The eruptions is dated to be between 1645 BCE and 1500 BCE from studying the soil (Whipps, 2008). Many conspiracies have been linked to the expulsion such as the city of Atlantis
Plato gave the first and principal written account of Atlantis in his dialogues, “Critias” and “Timaeus”. In his description, Atlantis was a huge island located near the Straits of Gibraltar. In this island, there was a great empire which had flourished more than nine thousand years earlier. Atlantean residents had extraordinary intelligence. Their society was far more advanced than any other civilization at that time. The wealth of Atlantis was so unimaginable that even the walls were covered in gold. Furthermore, Atlantis had a huge trading network and a powerful navy. But with the passage of time, the Atlanteans became more and more arrogant, and they even wanted to rule the whole world. They were defeated by brave Athens soldiers. After that, fatal earthquakes and floods occurred in Atlantis; and in a single day and night, the island of Atlantis was swallowed up by the sea.
The Earth is a home for mankind, a planet sustaining life, and it is also a giant magnet! Magnets in general, no matter what type of magnet it is, have two end faces called poles. Poles are where the magnetic force is most effective. These two poles are known as the north pole and the south pole. Magnets also create a magnetic field from the particles within the magnet. The Earth resembles this same structure. The earth has a geographic north pole and a geographic south pole. Since opposites attract in magnets the south pole of the core of the earth points towards the geographic north pole of the earth and the north pole points towards the geographic south pole of the earth. The core of the earth serves the same purpose as the particles in m...
Changes in the Earth's spin are measured in terms of length of days. A faster spin shortens the length of daylight. "Due to the reservoir effect," (Chao). "the day 40 years ago was longer than today by about 8 millionths of a second." More significant, he said, is the fact that the sporadic spacing of water reservoirs has changed the Earth's axis. Since 1940, water impoundment has pushed the axis of rotation about 60 centimeters away from the North Pole toward western Canada, said by Chao
