Imagine walking into the Olympic games representing the nations team in a sport. Athletes that represent Olympic teams normally feel great pride and accomplishment. Many athletes don’t know how to get on an Olympic team; if athletes really want to be on an Olympic team athletes need to know how too. If an athlete wants to play on an Olympic team that is not their home nation the athlete can do so because in the Olympic rules there are different requirements that allow them to play on a different nations team. Athletes need to know that there are some requirements to join any Olympic team no matter what the sport is. According to the Olympic Registration Website, athletes that are taking part in the Olympics need to have their own determination and years of training to become the best. All athletes that are participating in the Olympics need to have many years of training and practice to be at the highest skill level the athlete can be. As stated by Matthew Syed, “…When it comes to world-class performance, there is something that we don’t see: the sacrifice that turned these people into the champions in the first place. The sweat, the dedication, the waking up at 5am when your body was crying out for more sleep, the failures, the good habits, the discipline, the drive, the persistence.” Athletes that are training to be in the Olympics need to have a healthy diet. Athletes need to consume at least 5,000 to 7000 calories a day, where normal people eat three times less calories a day (Rhonda Schaffler).
