I believe advertisments are a good thing for children. First off, advertisments are everywhere and they arent going to go away. Secondly, advertisments teach children how to be a smart consumer. Thirdly, its a good thing they make advertisments for children because thats what keeps businesses running. These are three reasons why i believe advertisments are a good thing, especially for children. Dont you agree? The reason I say advertisments are everywhere is because they are. You see them when your on your way to work, school perhaps, or even when you go shopping. Its not like advertisments take time out of your life, they are just there because it helps out the community, and it definetly helps out children. It says that " compaines founded the Children's Advertising Review Unit to assess the kinds of ads directed toward children." This proves that advertisments do help out children …show more content…
It directly says this in paragraph 1," With proper use, ads serve as tools that help the economy grow and teach children to be smart consumers." I believe this very much so because of the way I was raised and how i choose to spend my money. Also when it comes to being a smart consumer, my dad always told me to manage my money. Either making a list of the things I want or saying Im going to spend this amount of money. My last reason advertisments shouldnt be revoked from children is because they help businesses. Even though they talk about how American Businesses are vital to a successful economy and that many marketing styles can be harmful to kids. I dont think thats true. Let me tell you why. Children love the new, whether it be the latest nikes shoes, or a new basketball, its just something they need. And with these advertisments that these compaines throw out there, children pick up on that, and they want to buy there stuff. Thats why I think advertisments are good for children and for a
George Parker once said, “The only people who care about advertising are the people who work in advertising." Advertisers use many different techniques that target children and teens. Many people do not realize how harmful this can turn out to be. Advertising plays a harmful role in the lives of youth because it poses health risks, prevents children and teens from saving money, and exposes them to way too many ads.
advertising is becoming a bigger role in the lives of youth. Since deregulation in 1984, the money advertisers make off of kids has been increasing by millions each year. kids who don't even have the brain function to make a good choice on what they buy are being targeted as young as 5. As young kids become more accustomed to certain products young, they continue buying them over their whole life. This is what advertisers are causing by targeting the youth. Advertisers are finding that marketing to kids makes a lot of money, the youth believe everything they hear, and the advertising techniques they do today are almost sure to work.
... child will draw his or her own conclusion that listening to advertising is a very poor way to make choices. Then, as the child grows up, he or she will see for his or herself proof of this idea - it does not need to be shown to the child explicitly.
One reason for this is because kids are easily influenced, and advertisers see it as a way to establish brand loyalty at an early age. I remember as a kid seeing really cool Coca-Cola advertisements. For some reason, I don’t remember Pepsi ads, so I always preferred Coke over Pepsi. This is good for the advertisers, because once a kid is loyal to a specific brand, they will most likely stick with that brand for their entire lives. For the kids, however, it’s not always a good thing. Exposure to so many advertisements can’t be good for them. In some cases, like the image of women in advertisements, it will change a person’s impression of certain things.
Unless you live without television, radio, and magazines, your children are bombarded with advertisements for products you don’t necessarily want them to own or eat. Let’s not stop there, try shopping for children’s clothes without some form of media printed on the clothes. Marvel and Disney have really utilized this area. The influence of advertisers has even trickled down to our classrooms in the form of lunch boxes, pencils, and erasers. You will have a hard time just walking down the street without seeing some imaging for a product. We are going to focus on the unhealthy influence these companies have had on our families. Today’s children, ages 8 to 18, consume multiple types of media (often simultaneously) and spend more time (44.5 hours
The advertising is a method of communication that has a big purpose which is to persuade the audience to buy their products .Today, advertising is very remarkable and has an essential role in community.as it tends to impact on children specially. In addition, nowadays, the children are watching too much television and use the social media than previous years. Therefore, they see more advertising. Besides, although there are some good impacts of advertising on young minds, the researchers shown that, the advertising can also have several bad influences on children, particularly, if parents are incautious and do not increase the awareness of their children about the importance of money.
Advertisements are found everywhere in today’s world. They have a big impact on what the consumer buys. Commercials are often aimed towards children and teens because they will ask their parents to buy the product. Another reason teens are targeted by advertisers is because they have money to spend and are willing to buy unnecessary products, especially if it is the latest and greatest. Teens feel that they need the newest electronics, clothing, and other luxury items.
Advertising works best if it targets the people who would likely to use the product . Therefore , many unethical things are done to place advertisements in places . People do not know what actually they need , they would not know what to buy . Because of these facts , in order to get the attention of consumers , companies try all kind of advertising tactics even if they involve illegal and dirty tricks . One of the well-known illegal trick is called “bait and switch”. This tactic is mainly about placing an advertisement for a particular object at tremendous value . Then ,customers get into store and could not find the object, because it is no longer available . While they are so sad about what they missed , they automatically direct themselves to a similar product which is not good as previous but most of the time they feel satisfied . These tactics do not only influence adults , they influence kids as well . There is huge amount of ethical concerns about advertising which relates with children .Children may get the wrong impression a...
“There are twelve billion dollars spent annually on ads directed at children” (Dittmann, 2004). These advertisements target young, impressionable minds, capture the attention of the child and imprint an ideal or message. While watching advertisements, a child develops a like or dislike for an activity or product. The strength of the desire is proportional to exposure. Desire creates action and action creates sales. I observed this principle with a sibling, my younger brother Eron. When a General Electric commercial came on television he, would turn and be mystified by the music and dancing of the actors. Around the age of eight, he expressed a very strong opinion that General Electric products are superior to other products. At this stage in his development, he did not have the cognitive ability to think abstractly to weigh all of the aspects associated with what makes a product of quality.
audience, the advertising industry is charged with several ethical breeches, which focus on a lack of societal responsibility (Treise 59). Child Advocacy groups and concerned parents, among others, question the ethicality of advertising claims and appeals that are directed towards vulnerable groups in particular, children (Bush 31).
Children between four and eight don’t recognize that ads are paid commercials intended to convince them into buying something. Children see about 6,000 advertis...
...maintain that advertising exists primarily to create demand among consumers. People have certain types of wants and needs, and they are perfectly capable to discover it for themselves. People today just need food, clothing and shelter everything else is superfluous and additional stuff. Advertising are able to create demand that would not exist just by manipulating people’s min and emotions. Advertising is master in manipulate reality and fantasy, by creating “magic show.” It is true that advertising has been a powerful mechanism that distorts our whole society’s values and priorities. On the other hand, advertising educate people about several issues. In political terms, it moves mass of people and persuade them to vote for a candidate. And, of course, in terms of economy, contributes in the development through the consumption of the costumer.
Advertisement affects many aspects of a society's choice to purchase or have a certain attitude towards a product. People see and hear advertisements even in the beginning of their childhood through the use of television, billboards, social media, etc. I think advertisements have a greater significance on children because it affects the way they decide what to like and want. As a child, I remember always looking forward to seeing the newest, sparkly toy that was being sold at Toys R Us. Baby dolls were the toys I treasured the most.
The findings in Dittman’s article fully support my findings as well as my own personal. beliefs that advertising to children is unethical because a lot of the children watching the TV are doing so without adult supervision. A lot of children watching TV are 8 or younger and they do not fully comprehend the importance of the subliminal messages that the companies are sending. out by using their cartoons and catchy songs to hook the child into buying their products. I believe that advertising is a modern example of brainwashing and that with no parental supervision or no parental limits, our nation’s youth will be so caught up in the power of advertising, that their youth and innocence will end much faster than the generation before.
The societal culture of advertising plays a crucial role in the way teenagers interact with one another and how they make decisions. Goodman (1997) asserts the average young person views more than 3000 ads per day on television (TV), on the Internet, on billboards, and in magazines. At this rate, teenagers are exposed to a vast range of advertisements that create awareness and knowledge of products and services in the market. Moreover, the objective of advertisements is to increase sales and grow profits. Though advertisers are not psychologists, they are aware of strategic techniques that will cause teenagers to be convinced to buy their product.
