To avoid WWII, Congress passed the Neutrality Act of 1939 permitting arms and goods to be sold through a cash and carry policy to aid Allied Powers. This extended into the Lend-lease Act which permitted the lending of war equipment to countries whose defense was vital to U.S. safety. American aid continued upon America entering the war following Japan attacking Pearl Harbor. Six months after, the U.S. defeated the Japanese Navy at the Battle of Midway, marking the turning point of the war in the Pacific. After island hopping led America to invading Okinawa, becoming the bloodiest Pacific battle with Japan using Kamikaze attacks, President Truman’s decision to drop two atomic bombs, first invented in Los Alamos under the code name Manhattan
