Why do certain individuals become terrorists? Poverty has ties to why certain people or groups of people become terrorists. Most terrorists “occurs when individuals or groups subjectively perceive themselves as unfairly disadvantaged in relation to other reference groups (Maras, 2013). Individual perceives that he or she does not have something that they want, that another has, who is in a comparable situation to their own, has. The individual must believe that they are entitled to the same thing. Terrorism helps terrorist to justify the violence they commit. This gives them collective meaning. It gives them some type of power. Terrorist come from every walk of life some with long criminal records or histories of juvenile
