Can you tell me why cell phones are so bad in school? I think they are a great way to learn or get informed of emergencies. Imagine you are sitting in class and the teacher asks a question. You could easily pull out your cell phone and look it up and find even more information on the subject than you were looking for. Or you are sitting in class and you get a text alert. You look at your phone and it says “Your dad is in the hospital.” What is so bad to simply reply to the text? Is something wrong with that? You should be able to be on your phone in school because of the wider access to information, the increasing number of educational apps, and in the case of an emergency situation. The increasing number of educational apps is a great way for kids to learn in a new style. Many people believe that cell phones are just a distraction in the classroom. People don’t believe that they can be used to help students.( education.cu-portland.edu )People say that because of texting and all the apps. All the apps that are at our disposal to get on whenever we want. I believe that these apps are going to be the future of learning. “There are many apps that will teach kids the things they need to learn.”( schoolmoney.org )Everything is online nowadays. In the future, there won’t be a use of textbooks at all. All learning with be …show more content…
People believe that it just an excuse to get on your phone and do something else. ( schoolmoney.org ) Many say that kids will do anything, including make up a lie about something serious, so they can get on their phones. The main reason for cell phones is communication. “They have become a priceless tool for safety.” (healthresearchfunding.org ) No matter what is going on you can reach help or be reached for help in the situation of an emergency. My proof was found on healthresearchfunding.org. In short cell phones are a way to communicate to someone in the case of an
In summary, cell phones have positive and negative effect on our society today and is becoming a part of today’s subculture. They are more easily to use, can help save a life, and can keep in touch with friends, family, coworkers, and other business partners. Then again, they carry germs, has dangerous microwave radiation, can cause neglect in families, and eye strain. They can also have teens engage in unapproved relationships. As Stanley Victor Paskaich says, “as long as you have a Cell Phone you're never alone.”
Let’s ask “What would people do if they couldn’t use cell phones for a day?” Along with the fastest growing scientific field in the past recent years, people are now living in a world of full, advanced high tech. Tons of new inventions are introduced every year. Nowadays, people use iPads, tablets to watch movie, news instead of the television, or may control cell phones by their voices, and etc. One of the best inventions of human beings is the cell phone because it changed the way people communicated, educated, and entertained in better ways. This indicates that the cell phone is one of the most significant things in people’s lives. As the result of the main purpose for existence of cell phones, it becomes more
1 The right age to get a cellphone is when you get 17 or 18 in high school. Some parents buy their child phones such as iphones, samsung, tracphone, and ipad for to call them when ever needed. Kids shouldn't have phones at the age of 6-15, because some kids just call people and then they phone bill need payed. The problem is that when kids have the phone with them in the class and it go off the teacher will take it.Some kids bring they phone to call their momma or grandpa at least they having an emergcy.
There is no real "problem" with cell-phones in themselves. Students just need to learn, and remember, that there is a time and a place for everything. A cell-phone should generally not be used in class, unless perhaps somebody is standing at the front of the room with a gun, or if there was some other calamity, such as: kids making bomb threats and what not - for these reasons I find it completely reasonable for a child to be permitted to be equipped with a powered "ON" cellular device. I don't know about you, but if I have kids one day who are potentially in danger, I would want to be aware of this at once.
To begin with, cell phones are needed in school because a student can have an emergency. As teens get older they are becoming more independent. Often the only way that their parents can be sure that their kids are safe is by calling them. Imagine if there was a fire in a school and your child was the only one to know about it. He/she could call 911 or his/her parents.Or imagine if your child was stuck in the school while it was burning. He/she can call 911, her parents, or a nearby friends. Just like BubbiG(A user on Teenink) said: “Electroni...
In today’s society many kids are walking around with cell phones. Seventy seven percent of kids ages twelve to seventeen have a cell phone. The main reasons why kids have cell phones are: safety, convenience, affordable, responsibility, and bonding through texting.
Firstly, cell phones are a useful object when needed in an emergency. When parents need to contact their kids, they have access to talk with them on their cell phones. People say "But there's a phone in the office", So? What if office staff are out for lunch? What if the emergency happens at their parent’s workplace?
It’s not acceptable to use cell phones in class. Actually, using cell phones has more negative effects than positive. So, why do we need to change the policy that prohibits students from using cell phones in classrooms? In my opinion, I will say no, we shouldn’t change the policy that exists now - no cell phone use, under any circumstances.
By permitting the use of cellphones in school, students can increase their knowledge and complete school work by using applications and other features on their smartphones. Teachers and students are now “using their phones as clickers to answer questions, providing feedback on student progress, and also to document labs, collaborate on group projects and capture teachers’ notes” (Higgins). Students like to do things the fun way, and by using their phones as clickers, they can learn and review for tests while having fun answering them on their phones. Students can use services on their phones to turn assignments in too. During group assignments, students can work right on their phones. If a student was absent one day, all another student has to do is send them the work they did with a touch of a button. Teachers usually move very fast when presenting information to students. By taking pictures of notes, it makes it easy for students to make sure they have all the notes without the teacher moving too quickly. They will be able to go home and review everything right there on that small little screen, hence increasing their knowledge. Additionally, “Students attending a field trip can snapshot a picture and capture their ideas” just by using the camera on...
With so many school shootings and terrorist attacks happening, cell phones are a necessity to help you feel safe (Higgins). With a cell phone handy, if something were to happen there would be ways for you to call 911 and get help. In Higgins article, Dan Domenech says, “This trend first emerged after the 9/11 terrorist attack.” Many people like to have a way of communication and a type of security to make them feel safe. In Higgins article, Dan Domenech continues, “The issue of security and red alerts on terrorism threats became an issue and school systems began to relax the prohibition on cell phones in school.” School shootings do not happen very often, but if and when they do students can be prepared to have the opportunity to call for help and explain what
Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it creates more drama, and it promotes cheating. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson.
Another reason I have heard for young kids with phones is because of having a phone can be dangerous both ways, without a phone there is no way to call anyone if you needed help or to get into contact with family members.
Cell phones are small and portable yet provide so much to its user with being able to look up anything to calling your parents in case of an emergency or if you need to give them a heads up on something. With the way things are today people need to focus on incorporating cell phones into daily life and finding ways to make them more suitable in a classroom environment. Teachers are already doing this though with using apps that work with the whole class and can track data and usage of a student. It cannot be debated that cell phones are beneficial in school as before cell phones you would have to go to your local library and hopefully find what you are looking for. Cell phones belong in a school environment as they can be helpful and it 's a parent 's right to be able to get ahold of their
Do you think that cell phones are good for you? Guess what, they ARE really good for teaching kids, BUT, there is another side of cell phones. Many schools are still struggling with whether they should have cell phones or not. You have no idea what cell phone is “after you”. Since cell phones are bad for kids’ health, cell phones can make kids lose their trust and it can be a distraction, so, I think that cell phones should be banned from school.
One reason to consider the introduction of cell phones in learning is to promote digital etiquette, a concept that is foreign to most people. According to Liz Kolb (the author of “Toys to Tools”) Digital etiquette is “a basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you.” Kolb says in her book that “an educator’s job is to help students navigate and stay safe in their media world”. Students often are unaware to the consequences of their use and misuse of technology. Currently, many students do not overthink about protecting their own privacy. For example 55% of students do not care whether the digital material they use is copyrighted. Students ages 10 to 17 often do not take in appropriate cell phone use. According to Kolb “While nine out of ten 10- to 17- year olds believe that they are courteous on their cell phones, 52% admit to sending text messages at the movie theater, while 28% admit to sending texts at the dinner table.” These statistics show that teens are unaware with cell pho...
