I agree that athletes should get more for what they are doing and that I am interested about doing this essay about the high salaries that athlete are getting paid and i think that it is a good idea because a lot of people wonder exactly how much they get paid per game session .The athlete that are getting paid more are usually more known by people who watch them from tv or even live supporting them from the beginning and end. Salaries of athletes is an interesting topic many people debates about it but in fact athletes are getting paid way more than other jobs but there's a difference between normal athletes and professional athletes is that one does better at there jobs than other. The average salaries that they make is more than most people make in their lifetime. Most people have to work hard for they lively hood but athletes get paid a lot even if they did not perform good in they game or miss a game season when they got injuries. Whether it is getting the touchdown in football ,athletes often times put their life on the line for the game. The problem with this is that they usually keep playing while they are hurt. They would take pain pills to help them when they are playing the game but once they retire, many athletes cannot afford to buy high priced medicines to control the pain they get later on anymore. This leads to players either filing for bankruptcy or having to find a new jobs to keep paying for what they need to pay for. Although some athletes receive surgery to fix injuries, they could never replace the original body they had before. This is why i think they should deserve to get paid in a large amount of
Tyson Hartnett of The Huffington Post once said “Even with any type of scholarship, college athletes are typically dead broke.” This quote regards a tremendous controversy that has been talked about for the past few years. He talks about whether or not college athletes should be paid for their duties. Despite the fact college athletes are not professionals, they should most certainly be paid for playing for their respective schools due to many factors. These factors include health risks and the income bring in for their colleges as well as to the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
I have decided to write a response paper to Ekow N. Yankah’s: “Why N.C.A.A. Athletes Shouldn’t Be Paid”. Although I enjoyed reading his perspective, I do not agree with his statement which addresses that student-athletes shouldn 't get paid. Universities are using their student-athlete’s popularity to promote their athletics program while the student-athletes are unable to promote their own image. Student-athletes work hard day in and day out, basically like having a full time job. Which makes time is also very limited during the day for student athletes to get a real job to pay for the extra expenses that they need. Also, most of the time coaches will not allow the student athletes to work, because of their conflicting schedules with practice.
There has always been a lot of debate on whether or not college athletes should get paid. With as much money as college sports makes from these student athletes, should these student athletes be getting paid? There are many different stances on why I feel like these student athletes should be getting paid. I will talk about some of the reasons on why they should get paid. Being a student athlete is a very stressful thing in life at that age as they are attending school full time and working extremely hard at being the best athlete they can on the field.
Isn't it amazing how one little controversial question can cause so much drama? Take the NCAA for instance. Within recent years the question of weather NCAA athletes should be paid or not has arisen and caused them some unwanted attention. Many coaches and sports enthusiast have been interviewed on their opinion. “Students are not professional athletes who are paid salaries and incentives for a career in sports. They are students receiving access to a college education through their participation in sports, for which they earn scholarships to pay tuition, fees, room and board, and other allowable expenses,” (Mitchell). “There has been major discussion recently if college athletes should or shouldn't be paid while they are in school. The first thing opponents say is, "They're already getting a scholarship! That is more than anybody else! Don't be greedy!”(Hartnett). These are just two men’s opinions, but no one needs to give his or her opinion any longer. The answer to this question is unmistakably clear. NCAA athletes do not need to be paid because they get to go to college for free, their living expenses are paid for, and there would not be a fair way to choose which teams are paid and which are not.
In recent years, a major controversy in the NCAA has been whether or not student athletes in college should be paid for playing sports. There are different viewpoints from different people stating if they should or not. Many people believe that they are already being rewarded enough with their education being paid, but even with the school’s help with their tuition and school fees, many have trouble paying personal expenses. Even though some people believe they shouldn’t be compensated for their hard work and dedication, it is the right thing to do, due to their lack of time occupied by sports and schoolwork. Many famous athletes in college such as Johnny Manziel and Tim Tebow bring in millions of dollars into their universities due to publicity and even though they are breaking their backs they don’t receive a single dime for their hard work. The college coaches also get a really high salary, just for coaching the players. They also receive many contracts that include shoe contracts, TV and radio contracts, and many perks along the way. When the coaches get their teams to the playoffs or win major games, they might receive big bonuses. It doesn’t make sense that the athletes are the ones that are doing all the work to get the far yet they don’t see any form of compensation. Many executives from the NCAA and the universities also get millions of dollars from big sporting events, and they do nothing to earn it. The athletes are the ones taking stuff out of their time and working hard to not get paid.
Athletes are being paid hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to entertain us. They work less hours than the average person and make considerably more. Athletes all around the world are paid handsomely because they are talented and have extensive knowledge of their sport. But, is that knowledge and talent really worth what they are earning every season? Compared to some of the most common and needed professions are athletes really earning their paychecks? It’s time to take a deep look into what requirements besides natural ability athletes really need? How many hours are they expected to put in a week and what their job really is.
The argument that college athletes should be paid as been ongoing for many years. With the growing rise of college athletes’ popularity in the media, many people believe that college athletes should be paid, but they do not see the negative effects of the payments. The payments of college athletes could cause their price of enrollment to rise, forcing many students to transfer to other universities or not attend college at all. It may also cause fan ratings to drop because the relatability factor would disappear. Along with university budget cuts appearing, academic scholarships and athletic scholarships would disappear. College athletes should not be paid because college athletes are students and not professional players, the deep connection
paid, it might change their attitude and performance. They may become remiss if they are getting a
In closing, these athletes are making too much money in a society that traditionally bases salaries on the value of ones work. These athletes do not know what real work is or how hard it is to make a dollar. Although their job is difficult, they do not play a role in our economy like their salaries indicate. Therefore, they should receive less money.
In many states, athletics in the academic system, are a big deal. Usually, the athletic department is what brings the most attention and revenue to the smallest of schools, to the largest. A topic of discussion that was brought up to my attention when March Madness began, was whether or not student athletes should be compensated for their hard work on the court or on the field. Many believe full ride scholarships should be enough, but not every athlete gets full ride scholarships. When determining whether a student athlete should be or should not be compensated, there are many factors to take into account.
The main reason athletes should be paid is because the NCAA and the college make money off of them. The coach’s salary amount is based on how the students do in their specific sport. There are coaches in college being paid millions of dollars based off of how well the athletic program performs. While they sit back and just scream at athletes to do this and that, athletes are the ones who are suffering. Athlete’s put their body at risk every day for their coaches and their teammates. The worst part about being an athlete is that when they do not perform well coaches
Should colleges or universities pay student athletes just because they play sports, or should we not pay them? Student athletes should not be payed from college or university campuses just because the students play sports. Even though people believe that student athletes should be payed by colleges or universities, student athletes should not be paid from college or university campuses because college athletic programs cannot afford to pay athletes, college students are financially irresponsible, and students are not professionals. Although, it is true that a bunch of money comes out of the college athletic program, a lot of money is going out, and most cases, these programs are working at a loss. Also, the other reason why student athletes should not be payed is because, college students are financially irresponsible.
College is a place to get a higher education that also prepares you for the real world, but not all the students are just there for the education. There are 176,00 student-athletes in 346 division I schools in the United States. Division I college sports is the most popular division in college sports with the highest level of athletic competition. Division I sports alone brings in twelve billion dollars a year alone, but devoted student-athletes only get an education that they care little for. Giving student-athletes a small piece of the profit could help benefit them and their family.
The salaries of athletes are extremely high for the effort that they put through. For example, basketball, baseball, and hockey athletes only compete for about 6-8 months a year. Then they have...
Sport has always entertained and influenced our lives. It creates dreams for children and goals for adults. However, many fans are oblivious to the millions they pocket each year. It is without doubt that our sports stars are grossly overpaid. Their annual earnings exceed those we make in a lifetime, even when compared to highly qualified professionals.
