Why are you interested in the given major?
I'm interested in science because I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience with scientific research. However, I’ve constantly attended events advocating education and minority rights with Promise Neighborhood, so I also see a future in political science. Overall, I'm interested in studying about mental disorder such as depression, autism, schizophrenia, alzheimer, and anxiety, especially since I’ve dealt with a few myself and I have family who has been diagnosed with these disorders. I wish to study the brain not only from a biological perspective, but also form a logical and social perspective. I hope to become involved

I hope my hard work is seen despite the little things that impose a challenge to my education. I am always searching for opportunities, such as internships and enrichment programs. Outside of academics, I enjoy time with my family and being involved in sports along with volunteer opportunities in my communities. Volunteering is a principle my mom has instilled me because she's always inclined with the community and my school.
What have been your most valuable experiences while in high school? Is there any specific situation that you are proud of overcoming? Please explain.
The most valuable experience while in high schools has been my internship at the Salk Institute. In this internship, I got hands on lab experience and got to work on my own project (which, from my understanding, you don't even get to do on your first year of college.) I collaborated with other students in different district and had to learn to present and communicate my ideas and finding to a group of research scientist and other high school students. I attended enriching courses and seminar such as the “Women In Science Seminar” or “The Different Path to Science” Panel.” This experienced reinforced my interest for science. However, aside from science,this internship was also a culture shock. I met people and PhD students from Spain, Germany Peru and other areas of the world,
Learning about new cultures is my favorite thing to do. I interact well with others and enjoy networking with new people. I have found that my ability to meet new people is a trait that makes every visit I have taken to different countries an enjoyable visit. I wish to participate in this program because it has always been a goal of mine to study abroad. By participating in this program I hope to learn about another culture, make international contacts, and gain valuable international business skills.
Regarding my education, I’ve set numerous goals for my last few years of high school, and achieved them successfully. I started taking college dual credit classes, on top of normal high school classes, in my freshman year of high school. By doing this over the course of the years, I’ll be graduating with my associates degree in college, the same time I’ll be graduating from high school this May. All of my hard work for my education has finally paid off, and given me the chance to carry on my educational career at SIU Carbondale, as I stated above. I’m going to continue to strive for excellence, especially in my career field.
High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
Ever since I began my Freshman year of high school, I started contemplating about my life after graduation. Since I was in the fourth grade, I was awarded for my academic excellence. In middle school, for my seventh and eighth grade year I was in the Junior Beta Club. As an award we got to have the opportunity to travel to New York City and to Washington D.C.
I am Fasiha Abdul Rehman, holding a professional degree of Doctor of Pharmacy at 23 years of age; with a deeper interest in contributing to the understanding of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and unveiling new information for medical advancement and betterment of mankind and I envisage Masters as crucial step in this direction.
The final focus I have, but certainly not the least, is to be successful in my endeavors throughout college. Seeing how much my parents cared for me by seeing them work as hard as they could just so my siblings and I could live a better life gives me all the motivation in the world to work as hard as I can to not only give back to them, but for my future children to live an even better life than I am. The lessons I have learned in my life from both my parents and life experiences have fully prepared me to excel in college. Being a part of honors classes and taking multiple advanced placement classes, I believe I am very ready for the workload to come ahead.
In my first years of teaching I plan to get a better understanding of my school community and the surrounding community, so I know where and how to get support for my students. I plan on attending trainings to keep up with the various concepts and principles that I will have to follow when teaching. I will also need to develop deeper understandings of adolescent development which will help when I am teaching to see changes in behavior and understanding and how it relates to each individual student. As a long term goal I will build relationships with fellow teachers to provide them support and learn together to become a team of advocates for our students. I know that it is up to me to grow and continue learning all that I can to provide my students the best learning experience possible.
My students will be able to see me as this hero that is going to be there for them all the time and, also someone that is teaching them many new things. I want to be the one other than my student’s family to alter their life in a positive way so that I can have some identification that I am doing my job right. I will also be able to encourage my students continually and encourage them to strive for their dreams. As their teacher it will be my main goal to elevate them back up while they are down.
My experiences with diverse cultures began during my childhood. I would eagerly listen to my grandparents, Dutch immigrants;
middle of paper ... ... I am reminded of my desires and cravings everyday that I go to work and hear the bells of unfulfillment toll. My educational path will be a long one, but I am prepared and extremely motivated for the path ahead. My financial hardship keeps me at a job that is unfulfilling and moot; however, I am grateful for the fuel it provides to my passion for achieving my educational goals.
Due to my success in my academics, I was able to help other succeed as well. Throughout my first year, I was able to tutor nine of my colleagues, and two of those colleagues were past/present members of the United States Armed Forces. Being able to assist others, and help them perform well is a reward in itself. An example of my determination for academic excellence can be seen in the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of my secondary education.
This major appeals to me for several reasons. The biggest appeal to me is that the field of neuroscience is still developing. Many of the biggest breakthroughs in the field have come within the last few decades. This means that there is so much more to be discovered and there is a large possibility to contribute to the field early in my career or even during my undergraduate years. Another reason this appeals to me is that this field is personal to me.
Taking that step towards high school, an important part in my life was Community Action for Teens. This organization has allowed me to work together with youths to learn and develop leadership skills in order to make a difference in our lives, families, schools and communities. We became advocates against challenging issues that trouble young people our age, namely alcohol and tobacco use. We also participated in numerous community service projects aimed at building appreciation and respect for the community, and fostered leadership development and community service skills. Thanks to this support group, I feel more prepared after high school.
Upon graduating from Concord College, I will attend graduate school and receive my Master’s degree in Education. I will be teaching at different places around the country, as I will be moving frequently. My future occupational plans include working with the Department of Defense school systems. I will use my educational background and my life experiences to enlighten and teach my students.
Time flies so fast. Looking back, my high school is just like a movie, a lot of things happened. High School is four years of growing up and probably a time in your life where you go through the most changes. In high school you are able to discover yourself and find out who you are as a person. Each year is special and unique in their own way. My journey through high school was a tough one, especially because I decided to not only focus on academic work but also to invest quality time in extra curriculum activities. I wanted more than just academic excellence; I wanted to be a leader, I wanted to add value to every aspect of my life, I wanted a rounded education and not just mere schooling. My success story is what I will like to share with you; how I really made it and how this defines my personality. My journey in High School was scary, exciting, and successful.
