Leash laws are an important part of respecting other people and their dogs, that is often overlooked. Many state parks, beaches and even city parks enforce leash laws in order to help keep dogs off sensitive, or even endangered plants and to keep dogs and their owners close together. There are obvious reasons why leash laws are enforced in certain areas. They keep people, who do not have dogs and maybe do not like dogs, far away from people walking their dogs. Those types of people can then avoid an encounter if they wish and not have to worry about other people’s dogs running up on them. Also, just because your dog is friendly towards people and other dogs does not mean that other dogs are just as friendly and comfortable with another dog …show more content…
For example, I have two dogs of my own, one (in his old age) does not mind other dogs sniffing him and usually he wants to play with them but my other dog (who is younger), was not socialized as a puppy, and does not play well with other dogs. When I take them out in public and to parks I always keep my dogs on leashes for my and their own protection. It is hard for me to let someone know that my dog is not friendly if their dog is of leash and running up to my dog. That causes a stressful and sometimes dangerous situation for everyone involved and I would much rather avoid it. Leash laws play roles in everyone’s life because they are there to protect people and other dogs and animals from harm and give everyone peace of …show more content…
One is that just because their dog is nice towards other people and dogs does not mean the feelings reciprocate from other people and dogs. I do not know about you, but when I am walking my two dogs on leashes I would be terrified if I saw someone else’s dog, off leash, running up on my two. I would definitely expect my younger dog to become protective over herself and I and could end up injuring the other dog, which would not end well for me or the other dog owner. The other thing dog owners could overlook when their dog is off leash is that their dog, friendly or not, could disrupt families with small children or non-doggy people while they are on a walk, for example, I do not think a mother of two little children would like a big German Shepard running up on them, even if the dog is friendly.
All in all, leash laws are enforced in specific areas in order to protect the environment and visitors. They are not a punishment to your dog, by not allowing it to run freely, but a safety precaution. If you want your dog to run freely then take it to an area that allows off leash, but if there are signs saying keep your dog on leash, then it’s a law and should be followed. Follow it not just for the safety of your own dog, but for the families, joggers, bikers that are sharing the area with you. Please, be respectful of other people around

For owning a dog that wasn’t registered or not obeying with the rules once it is registered by keeping it on a leash and muzzled when in public as well as in a car resulted in the dog being destroyed. There were no other options that were available to the courts. The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 is the greatest proof that the principles of democracy and justice have been unashamedly ignored. Parents and children were left in tears with their dogs being taken away from them for months and kept in kennels in secret locations.
Bad owners should be punished with their dogs, and good owners should not have to suffer because of another person’s actions. Thousands of innocent dogs would be saved from untimely death each year if the unwarranted and bias killing of them was itself made illegal. Discrimination is a terrible ideal and BSL is just that, and should not be implemented in any county, of any state, in any
Many people believe it is only Pit-bulls and Rottweilers that are targeted by BSL laws, but there are various breeds of dogs targeted with Breed Specific Legislation. In fact, there are 75 dog breeds in the United States that have been banned or restricted with BSL laws (75 dog breeds…, 2012). This list includes numerous shapes and sizes of dogs, from all different backgrounds. Most of the dogs on this list are common household pets, like the Labrador retriever, and are normally non-aggressive and very friendly. Many times these dogs show no sign of aggression and pose no threat to society.
Enacting and enforcing strong leash laws is another very effective way to help reduce dog attacks and its easy to tell whether or not a dog has a leash on, unlike the difficulty of trying to determine the breed of some dogs. If a dog is on a leash the owner has control of it, even if said dog does lunge at someone. But leash laws can't just say you must have your dog on a leash. They also need to address dogs being tied out and left outside alone. Do...
Dogs deserve to run around and be free without a leash holding them back. Dogs deserve to have a chance to go further then what their leash allows them to. Pet dogs should be allowed to have their space where their owners can take them, so they are not in just an empty lot or on the streets possibly causing injury to a nearby resident or themselves. Back in 2013, researchers did a report of owners who left their dogs in shelters, which resulted in 65% of people who say they left their pets in a shelter due to bad behavior. If dog parks were available to residents, there would be less dogs in shelters, fewer bite reports from dogs, and less bad behavior from dogs in general.
Dogs have impacted the lives of 44% of American families and homes. People use dogs for much more than just a family friend. Dogs are used for special needs, assisting police, and hunting and tracking. Dogs should be appreciated and never taught to fight or be neglected. Dog fighting is unethical because man’s best friend shouldn’t have to fight for their lives.
It does little to address the main problem: irresponsible owners. As animals, dog’s do not have the same moral compass as humans. It is an owner’s job to train, socialize, vaccinate, neuter, license, and provide all necessary living essentials for their pet. Establishing and enforcing leash laws is also important in ensuring the safety of others. Citizens should be educated in knowing dog body language, behaviors that are safe around a dog, and what to when a dog shows hostility. Children not old enough to understand these guidelines should require adult supervision. Taking these steps will help prevent more victims from experiencing the physical and emotional pain related to a
Dogs should be trained to be around people and other pets at an early age. Training a dog to listen and obey is the most important factor (Marketwire). A dog can simply be bored and want to play aggressively. No matter the breed a dog can always be trained not to be violent (“CAUSES OF DOG”). An improperly trained dog can turn out to be mean and aggressive. Also allowing your dog to practice these behaviors will cause them to adapt to them. Exposing a dog to new things will help it become comfortable with them and recognize them. Dogs use their bark as an alarming system (Marketwire). Knowing when and why a dog is aggressive is a key factor for changing this
All dogs, like humans, have the potential to either be nice or mean, respond well or poorly to the environment, and interact with others either up to par with social standards or not. The amount and type of socialization
Dogs are being taken for granted, and people need to realize the importance of why they have dogs as pets. Dogs are more than lazy animals, dumb creatures, or ways of showing off to others. Dogs don’t help with social status, rather they help with companionship, loyalty, trust, and a bodyguard. In my opinion, dogs don’t help determine how poor or wealthy a family is. Maybe people spend lots or little money on a dog, but that just depends on what type of people they are, not what type the dog is. Nothing more, nothing less.
Every breed of dog was bred for a reason. Whether this was for rabbit hunting, or herding livestock, there was always a purpose for their birth. Every dog has different physical characteristics, as well as behavior. For example a Dalmation can be just as aggressive as a typical, stereotypical Pitbull can be, but this goes unheard of. This is because media attention does not want to put these on the News because it is not interesting enough for the public. But Pitbulls are however. Every Pitbull is different in its own way. Some are friendly, and social. Some are shy, and reserved. Yes and there are the few that are aggressive but most of the time this is not because of natural causes. These dogs that are aggressive were trained to be that way. They are trained that way to compete in dog fights.
Dog parks are a great place to take the dogs because it provides a space where they do not have to be on a leash every time, while they can interact with other animals of their species in a pet-friendly environment. Every city in the country should have at least one of these places, in order to help their inhabitants with their pets and because it is a good part of the life in the community. A few days ago, while walking my dog, I decided to run with him but with the leash in my hand, so that way he could be free to stop and sniff wherever he wanted. This experience was very good for the dog because he was not tied to the limits that I provided, but he was always by my side running. A couple of minutes after being “free” a policeman showed up.
You want your dog to understand that you are the person to look to when they question what is right or wrong. This is done by being firm, yet kind with the dog. You don't want your dog to listen to you out of fear, but out of respect. Setting boundaries is very important in gaining respect. Sit down with your family and discuss what is and what is not appropriate for the dog to be doing. Perhaps you have no problem with a dog on the furniture, but kitchen entrance is not allowed.
Next, walkers with vicious dogs in public are irritating. For example, the dog could be dangerous and harm someone if it is in a bad mood. Another example is that if you ask the owner to move further, the owner refuses. The people would want the dog further from them because they are dangerous and the people’s children might go near the dog and it will bite. Lastly, most owners of the vicious dogs do not control their dogs well, and this might frighten the people and their children. Some owners do not care that much, and that is probably why they walk vicious dogs, to scare off people. Public signs are there to be obeyed and followed by for a better community, but some people do not follow them.
