Anonymous is not an organization. Anonymous is an idea, and when people come together and believe in an idea they become a group, or a movement. Everybody can be “anonymous”, whose members are often called “Anons”, and there is no leadership. Anonymous fights for freedom of speech and are often against the government. As an Anon said "We stand for freedom and for freedom of speech, for the power of the people and for their ability to demonstrate against the government, we stand for non censorship, especially online, but also in real life". The ability of Anonymous to be everything and anything is their power. It is not individuals, it‘s a collective. Many people are also considering Anonymous as weak for giving empty threats. However this may be correct in some situations, Anonymous are not and should not be heroes who should save the world itself, that is not what Anonymous exists for. Operations such as Ope-ration Tunisia and Operation Egypt where they collaborated with other hacker groups to give the people access to the internet and also shutdown some government websites. Anonymous has for a long time been attacking, tracking and tacking down pedophile websites. In an operation called Darknet in 2011 Anonymous was targeting websites hosting child pornography and leaked names of users there. More recently Anons have launched Operation DeathEaters, where they are inviting people to join their fight against pedophiles, to bring them to justice.
Operation Ferguson was launched shortly after the death of Michael Brown. Brown, who was an 18 year old black man, was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, a white Ferguson police officer. This lead to massive protests and riots, and Anonymous threatened the police that if they would harm anyone, Anonymous would release all personal information about every Ferguson police officer including tacking all web based assets of the department and government offline.
