Am I Dare to be Different? When people ask you to do something that you know is wrong, will you dare to refuse it? Or will you rather obey to do it so you will not be bullied? We mostly found teenagers these days choose the second choice - to obey and follow. Why? Being different is not always easy. People are afraid of getting pressures or mockery from peers, or being excluded or even ignored from the group. But, being different is one of the best ways to show people that your life can not be controlled by their deeds to you. It is also a warning for them not to ask you to do the wrong things. By being different, you have built a fortress for yourself so that you will not fall into their trap. If you open a gap to do something wrong, it is like you are allowing your enemies to take over your fortress. When you are not aware of your surrounding, your fortress will sooner or later collapse and you will be controlled by your enemies – they will force you to steal, and if you do not do it, they will torture you. So does with following others. If you say you just want to try for once, sooner or later, you will feel like doing the wrong thing is natural and it makes your friends easier to influence …show more content…
You are the one who should control your life – you make choices based on what you think is good or bad. You can not let other people make decisions for you because they do not have any rights to do that. In case you are in that situation, you better be hurry telling the problem to your parents or teachers. Ask them for help and ask them to give you inputs so that you know how to overcome that kind of situation. Another option is to predict the impacts you could get by doing your action. You will never know when something unexpected comes to you when you are doing something wrong. But there must be something good comes whenever you do it
Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, a Jewish rabbi, wrote extensively about many topics. Luzzatto’s writings can be applied to us today and from which we can learn a great deal. Two of the topics that we discussed in seminar that Luzzatto addresses were vigilance and alacrity. Vigilance is the process of regarding someone's actions and affairs and about knowing if your actions are right or wrong. In order to be vigilant, two parts are necessary. The first part involves determining what is considered evil and what is good. By doing this, you can make the right decision and do the right thing. The second part is to “see if his own deeds are good or evil,” which means that you have to decide if your actions were good or evil. This applies at
It is not the right thing to follow your ideals for your own personal gain without paying attention to your surroundings because that which you did wrong yesterday will catch up to you tomorrow. It is important to have a good outlook for the future because there's always room for change.
Other than all the differences in the world, Safwat Saleem continues to show and I agree with Saleem, that even if you’re different be yourself. Yes, there will be people that’ll judge you, but different is the new normal. So show off your differences and inspire people to be
Confucius once said that “life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated” by restricting ourselves with traditions and beliefs. We don’t have to follow the popular religions and beliefs because of peer-pressure. Lao zi once said that if we always “care about what other people think[,] we will always be their prisoner” so we should follow our hearts and create our own paths. However, people will also need to think about the consequences of our behaviours before we act or we may cause troubles like Jen in the move Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
thus know what is best not to do to someone else. (i.e. don’t need to
Conforming to all the rules society has placed is not important, what is important is knowing when it is okay to not follow a rule. People straying away from rules can have many possible outcomes, they are primarily as basic as making the right choice or making a mistake. Sometimes society’s rules are in the wrong, to be able to fix the problem what is needed are people who aren’t afraid to stand up to the rule.Society makes mistakes in the rules that are placed, and people have stood up to them. It is necessary to know when it is or is not okay to break a rule. It is okay to stand up to a rule if someone else is getting hurt, a group of people are being sectioned off or if the rule currently in place is endangering someone that have done
As Manley Pointer slammed the barn door shut behind him, the ladder to the loft collapsed to the floor. Hulga did all she could—scream. Minutes passed. Hours dragged on as Hulga continued crying for help. Deeming her efforts futile, Hulga wept. As the sun set beyond the horizon, Hulga’s eyes dried up. With no glasses and no rays of sun seeping in through the cracks in the roof, Hulga felt around blindly, gathering a small bundle of hay upon which to lay her head.
"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth." John F. Kennedy. When we allow ourselves to conform to what our friends, family or society asks of us, we lose the ability to grow into our own persons. Conformity, however, is more than just the 13 year old middle school girl wearing UGG Boots and an Abercrombie hoodie in order to fit in. It is more then only listening to the top 40 radio stations and watching American Idol so you have something to add to the conversation that your co- workers are having over stale, company supplied coffee. Conformity is a killer. It attacks the week and strangles them until their true self dies and a new person is created. This new person disregards all values they once held in high regard and will do anything to not be perceived as different. The funny thing about this killer is people are more than willing to give into his pressure in order to seem "normal". Sometimes it is easier to be obedient and do and feel as people say you should in order to avoid trouble. Sometimes it is easier to blend in to the crowd then to be crucified for being different. Why would anyone really want to be different? Society tells us different is bad. Different is weird. We are taught from the beginning that different is not what you want to be, it's not a safe bet. So people are willing to give in to the pressures of society in order to be "safe". People's willingness to give into conformity is shown in the literary pieces entitled "What is a homosexual?" by Andrew Sullivan and "Salvation" by Langston Hughes. Both show what great lengths people will go to in order to slide under the radar of public opinion and criticism.
Instead, they have the strength to be who they truly are and may not change just because someone says they are different and strange. Being different is not bizarre; being different means that you have the strength to confront conformity, reject it, and walk away.
My friends and I going to a party and dancing an African dance at a Mexican party. The norm of the party was to try to copy the style of dancing that matched the culture that we were at but instead, we pulled away from the culture and did something that is completely different than what people were used to seeing. Getting positive sanctions like people smiling at us and another girl coming up to us to try and dance with us. We did get negative sanctions such as people pointing toward us while they gossip to the people at their table and some laughing as they looked at us. My friend tried to pull us off the dance floor but when she realized that we weren’t leaving instead she tried to make us conform by trying to teach us how to dance properly to the song. When we refused she told me that we were embarrassing ourselves and her. This shows how significant reputation (labeling theory) was for her because she didn’t want us to tint her good reputation because many people know that you become friends with people that have similar values and interest as you. She didn’t want people to think that she befriends deviants. She later told me that I have changed a lot since I started living with my roommate because before I met my roommate I would never have done such an act. My roommate is a very outgoing person who is not afraid to stand out in a crowd, I on the other hand shy away from crowds so
The world we live in is overflowing with choices and chances. Every day, each and every human must make thousands of decisions. Some decisions may be rather simple to make, or not present a high chance for an unfavorable outcome. While one may decide the apple they picked up from the store is not very sweet, the cost lost on the apple is rather minimal and the consumer will most likely be presented with many more opportunities to pick a delicious apple. However, some choices are much more complicated. Decisions such as where to invest one’s money, or what physical challenges to endure, present very serious consequences. If the wrong decision is made, one could lose their financial security, or even their life.
Whether that is dropping out of high school to pursue a career in professional gaming or even just living with your parents if that is what makes you comfortable. Lastly, we need to break the mold of a “normal” person. We shouldn’t try to think, talk and act like everyone else because deep down, none of us are alike in most cases. We should want to be different than everyone else.
Now we will consciously or unconsciously make decisions which we think are for the best for us, for the ones we care for, or for the society or organisation as a whole. In order to make wiser decisions we should know what contributes in making a good or a bad choice. We should know what all options are there available to us and mak...
There are two kinds of people in the world; the ones that believe that the consequences of an action outweigh the importance of intention, and those that feel that intentions are all that matter. Consequences are measurable outcomes that are a direct result of our actions. Intentions are the thoughts behind a person’s actions. They are the reason that a person chooses to do something. Consequences and intentions both correlate with action. Intention comes before the action itself, and consequences are yielded once the action is complete. In general consequences are thought of as negative, while intentions are typically considered in a positive sense. However, this paper will explain why consequences are more important to consider than one’s
If life were merely a contest with fate, then should we not think before we act? Though some may argue that the proper time to reflect is before acting, I have learned from experience that, more times than not, this is not the best approach. The ability to act on instinct is crucial to success, in many situations. During an earthquake, for instance, one must quickly respond in whichever way necessary to protect themselves, as well as their loved ones. No matter how prepared, or trained, one may be, there is no way to predict what the essential motions should be taken at the time of an emergency.
