Why Abortions Should be Illegal
Would you ever consider ending a life? The debate on whether or not abortion should be illegal has been divided among Americans for the longest time. There are many reasons abortion should be illegal such as abortion is murder, women should not rely on an abortion as a form of contraception, and abortions are bad on your mentality and can cause psychological damage. While there are many reasons abortion should be illegal, there are also reasons why abortion should be legal. However, with all facts stated, abortion should be illegal.
Abortion is murder. Many people prefer getting abortions earlier in the pregnancy because they believe that it has less

Women should not rely on abortion as a contraception. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 8.5% of women who underwent abortions had already had three or more previous abortions. This proves that some women are relying on abortion as a contraceptive instead of looking at the consequences. Along with the consequences, these babies have a right to life. Upon fertilization, these fetuses are formed with a genetic identity which remains unchanged throughout their entire life, giving them the right to live. Also, these fetuses develop their own personality and self being in the womb. However, abortion gives pregnant women the option to not bring fetuses with profound abnormalities to full term. Meaning, they have the option to save a lifetime of potential problems for the child. This could be good in ways but for the most part, looking at all the cons of it, would this really be worth …show more content…
Abortions can cause psychological damage. A recent study shows that "young women who undergo abortion may be at increased risk for subsequent depression." It also states that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term. Not only does this effect the woman who carried the fetus but the father as well. In 1996, a study shows that over 50% men whose partner aborted regretted it and 30% developed depression. Not only do abortions cause depression, but anxiety as well. However, although getting an abortion can result in psychological damage, it is much safer physically then doing the procedure on your own or getting an unprofessional to perform it on you. This does put you at higher risk for illness or diseases. Instead of getting abortions, adoption is always an
How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live and have a future? You wouldn't have the opportunity to crawl, take your first step, have your first kiss, or experience those butterflies in your stomach at the sight of first love. Millions of special moments, a life, shredded to pieces. This is essentially what abortion does. Abortion is not the answer in the case of an unplanned pregnancy and needs to be stopped! First of all, abortion is a type of unnecessary murder that occurs in inhumane ways and cannot be tolerated. Moreover, there are alternatives to abortion and many families who are looking to adopt. Lastly, the side effects of abortion can cause life threatening health risks to the mother. Excuses will always be made, but the bottom line is that abortion is not acceptable and should be stopped.
Governmentally, abortion should remain legal because a woman and her family have a right to privacy. Second of all, there is the fetus cannot be considered a person.
There are many controversies that revolve around whether abortions should be legal or not. Some people believe that abortions are constitutional. Many believe that abortions are morally and legally wrong. To understand this controversial issue, it is important to know that facts about the legal background of abortions, statistics on why women aborted, and the effects on why women aborted. The following will tell why abortions should no longer be made legal.
The words of an unborn baby are ones that almost no one ever thinks of, or hears. One of this country's most controversial topics is abortion. However, if one sees the constitutional infringement to women by the restriction of abortion; the torment to the unwanted child; and the anguish society has to sustain, then this topic would not be so debatable. Too many people do not see the effect that abortions cause. It is a very dangerous offence that affects the mother, father, the community, and most importantly, the fetus, and that is why abortion should be illegal in Canada. First, abortion is against God’s law in many Holy books such as the Bible and the Quran. Secondly, abortion does not only affect the individual, but the community as a whole, and the rights of those people are infringed on. However, abortion does nothing in the cases of rape, or women’s rights, which is the constant argument people in favour of abortion argue. And lastly, abortion should be seen for what it is, murder.
Nor is there any evidence that abortion involves psychological health hazards. A poll of the American Psychiatric Association in the mid-1960s revealed overwhelming support for more easily available abortions and a conviction that adverse psychological sequelae from abortion are negligible both on an absolute standard and as compared with such sequelae from childbirth and unwanted children.
Abortion should be available and a human right! Abortion is a woman's right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority. Protecting this right is not only a health concern, but also a human rights need. Therefore, it should be considered illegal. I say it should be legal for these three reasons. Abortion should be available because without it, it is a safety hazard. Also, no abortion means more overpopulation and infanticide. Finally, involuntary birth can ruin a woman’s life an is a violation of her human rights.
Abortions make different women suffer in different ways. There are so many serious physical complications each year resulting from abortions. Are the health risks really worth it? Breast, cervical, ovarian, and liver cancers are higher risks in women who have abortions. Perforation of the uterus and cervical lacerations are possibilities while aborting. Placenta Previa, which is where the placenta blocks the neck of the uterus and interferes with normal delivery of the baby, has higher risks in pregnancies following abortions. Women are also at higher risks for ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus) and handicapped newborns in later pregnancies.
... who are not ready to take on the challenges and responsibilities of raising children. To have millions of poor, homeless and unhappy children in the world to cope with life’s injustices would be far more heartbreaking than extracting an embryo from a uterus. Abortion is a very complex issue that should remain a personal decision. The bottom line is that each woman should make her own decision based on her own morals and beliefs.
“A review of the medical records of 56,741 California, Medicaid patients, showed that women who had abortions were 2.6 times more likely than delivering women to be hospitalized for psychiatric treatment in the first ninety days following abortion or delivery.” ~ Depression linked to Abortion, see Sources cited, page 5.
In addition, one analysis, in relation to abortion problems, states, “from 1988 to 1997 found the risk of death increased by 38% for each additional week of gestation, during the pregnancy.” (Jones). “Such studies rely on information from many countries and include legally mandated registers hospital administrative data,” so current research affirms that an induced abortion increase the risk of different physical consequences, such as breast cancer, placenta previa, and maternal suicide. (Bachiochi). Late term abortion not only affects the mother’s condition physically, but also psychologically. Although not all women respond in the same way, some of them develop diverse mental disorders leading to suicide after they received an abortion. Studies in Canadian newspapers show “a suicide rate of 34.9 per 1000” from women who experimented an abortion, in contrast to “a suicide rate of 5.9 per 1000” from women who gave birth to their babies. The same newspapers report “a rate of 5.2 per thousand hospitalizations for psychiatric
A mother kills her unborn child because it is unwanted, but she's not charged for murder. Is it right? There is about 46 million abortions per year worldwide, and approximately 115,000 per day, but why? Is it because rape or incest, health problems with either the mother or the child, or just because the baby's unwanted or inconvenient at the time? (The Alan Guttmacher Institute.) Abortion should be banned because too many babies are being killed from abortion, if you don't want a child you could always put it up for adoption, and most mothers don't understand the consequences that occur from abortion.
Through every choice in life, there is a decision that must follow. Abortion is a woman’s individual choice; therefore, must be a legal part in todays society. Individual rights have an outstanding role in the controversial topic, on whether abortion should become legal in the United States . The individual rights for abortion show rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. As well, women should be able to have the choice to choose to have an abortion for several important reasons. The right to make these decisions should lie in the hands of the “mother” to make decisions concerning their own to make decisions concerning their own bodies. In addition, women should be given the choice to have an abortion if they are too young and unable to take care their child financially or emotionally. Additionally, the right to have an abortion is if the pregnancy negatively affects the woman's or the baby's health. Without abortions as a choice for the “mother” to resort to while she is going through hardship on deciding whether to keep the baby or not, the endless possibilities could negatively influence the mother to put her and the baby in a dangerous positions.
I believe that abortion should be banned. I strongly feel that pregnant women who want to abort their child/fetus should not be allowed to. For one, should one person alone be allowed to control the fate of another? Technically, abortion is murder, since the baby is being killed purposely. Some say that in the early days or weeks of pregnancy (maybe even in the first couple months) the baby is in fact not alive; it is just a bunch of cells. However, the fetus is breathing, and obtaining nutrients from the mother before she even knows that she is pregnant. Within no time, the fetus also has human characteristics: a head, hands, legs, arms, feet, and a torso. Thus, abortion should be legalized only when murder becomes legal, because abortion is murder.
First, I feel that abortion should be illegal because it can result in medical complications and also psychological trauma. It can cause premature birth and could also cause a baby to be handicapped in future pregnancies. A woman who has had an abortion is 2.3 times more likely to get cervical, ovarian, and or liver cancer. Abortion is the cause of 47,000 woman’s death yearly. It can cause depression for at
