Lady Macbeth learned that her husband, Macbeth, would become king in the end, a prophecy foretold by The Three Witches, in The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare. She thought, since she would in the end either way gain the title of queen, she might as well make it happen quicker. Her irrational desires and plans led to her downfall. The consequences of her actions filled her with guilt, guilt that made her mentally unstable and irrational. In the end, irrationality is what led her to grow unstable, run with guilt, and end her life. Macbeth received a prophecy from three witches that he would become king, and his friend Banquo’s descendants would be kings. He and his wife, Lady Macbeth, assumed that since it would happen either way, they …show more content…
Because of the resentment and greed, he began ruling more like a tyrant. People started to not like Macbeth, they believed the old king’s son, Malcolm, should rule instead. Malcolm and Macduff make a plan to attack the kingdom and kill Macbeth. In the end, Macbeth and Macduff battle, Macduff being victorious by beheading Macbeth, avenging the family he lost. Ambitious, irrational, and manipulative are some of the ways I would describe Lady Macbeth. She desired to up her status and had the drive, but was impatient and thoughtless when making her plan. It was clearly shown just how irrational she was by just wanting to make her plan happen as quickly as she could, trying to manipulate Macbeth by attacking his manhood, making him less hesitant in doing it. “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And be so much more than what you were, you would be so much more than a man” she spoke in a manipulative manner to gain control over Macbeth, to make him more willing to commit atrocities. “Out, damned spot,” he said. Out I say!” Lady Macbeth was ridden with guilt, unable to handle it, she became unstable, unconsciously speaking out what constantly rang in her
Shakespeare created a character in Macbeth who is strongly influenced in his decision making throughout the drama of The Tragedy of Macbeth. This drama is a Tragedy, hence the title, and has a hero, in Macbeth, who has a downfall. Readers become aware of the aspects that lead up to this predicament. Macbeth’s downfall was contributed equally from Lady Macbeth, the three weird sisters, and Macbeth’s ambition.
Macbeth, “A matchless soldier, kinsman to the king, wins the king’s battles and the king’s praise” however, “prompted by inner ambitions and external urgings”, he takes rash decisions conclusively ending in his atrophy of his title, power, and position (Bernad 49). Several factors contribute to the downfall of Macbeth, which produce a contagion effect; and ultimately end with his demise. The weird sisters disclose his prophecies which enlighten him about Duncan’s throne; Lady Macbeth abets Macbeth to realize his deep desires and come to the conclusion to murder Duncan; and Macbeth, the most significant contributor, makes his deep desires come to reality. In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the weird sisters and Lady Macbeth are important contributors to Macbeth 's downfall, however, they are not mostly responsible. Unlike, the weird sisters and Lady Macbeth, Macbeth is the most prominent contributor to his downfall; whose actions, decisions, and state of mind lead to his ruination.
have said has come true and now the greatest is yet to come i.e. being
At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is a trusted soldier, who is honest and noble. Unfortunately, he meets three witches who tell him three prophecies; that he will become thane of Cawdor, that he will become king and that Banquo’s sons will become kings. These three prophecies slowly change his opinions on life and turn him into a greedy, dishonest, tyrant, full of ambition. Lady Macbeth’s thoughts change as well when she is told about the three prophecies that were told to Macbeth. In the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth is ambitious, controlling and domineering. She is the one who encourages him to kill the king, she not only encourages him, she makes all the plans herself, which shows her determination and persistence."Yet I do fear thy nature, it is too full o’th milk of human kindness. To catch the nearest way thou wouldst be great. Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it." (Act 1, scene 5). Lady Macbeth is the force behind Macbeth’s sudden ambition and she tries to manipulate him into feeling guilty and unmanly for not following through with the murder, by using her husbands emotions, she manages to convince Macbeth to murder Duncan.
In the play, Macbeth was responsible for his downfall and let his greed take over. He was always ambitious, but ended up abandoning his loyalty from King Duncan, the King of Scotland and slowly changed him from a trustworthy, brave and loyal soldier to a merciless tyrant. Lady Macbeth and the three witches are responsible for Macbeth’s downfall. The prophecies changed Macbeth for the worst and is willing to remove any threats that stand in his way. Macbeth, although a loyal warrior, had always possessed ambitious motives that finally turned him into a murderer.
Macbeth's Downfall in William Shakespeare's Play 'Macbeth' by William Shakespeare is a play set in 1040 about a Scottish general named Macbeth. It explores the transformation and effect of his ambition upon his life. Although it is set in 1040, it is written in the 1606 under the reign of James 1st. James' very recent accession to the English throne would have been of great contemporary importance and a play which focuses on Kingship would have roused interest too.
Factors Contributing to Macbeth's Downfall in William Shakespeare's Macbeth In William Shakespeare's famous play Macbeth, there are many reasons for Macbeth's gradual downfall. Numerous factors contributed to Macbeth's ruin, such as his own character flaws and his demanding wife, Lady Macbeth. The Three Witches, however, caused Macbeth the most trouble. Many strive to achieve goals set in their minds, but some may lose control of their actions while doing so. In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Macbeth’s overconfidence and unrestricted ambition causes his humanity to deteriorate as the play progresses, ultimately leading to his demise. This is shown through the significant events surrounding the murders he commits, especially the murders of Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff’s family.
Through the entirety Shakespeare’s play, Lady Macbeth is portrayed as a malicious, manipulative character who will not stop until she gets what she wants. Her behavior and actions in 'Macbeth' prove so, but she doesn’t show her true colors until Macbeth receives the news from the witches about becoming king. She becomes blinded by ambition and begins manipulating Macbeth, contriving a plan to do whatever it takes for her husband to become king. Even if it means getting her hands bloody. She pleads to the witches to rid her of her femininity, only seeing it as a weakness keeping her from being completely ruthless.
All great leaders have their rise and fall. Some throw themselves into failure, some are pushed into it. Those who are pushed into it are usually influenced by evils around them. In the play, Macbeth by Shakespeare, the main character, Macbeth, is pushed to failure. The play takes place in Scotland and is about a young warrior who goes by the name Macbeth. Macbeth is told he would be a king by three witches. Macbeth kills the existing king and becomes a cruel, unjust king. He eventually goes insane and is killed and humiliated. Many may think Macbeth’s downfall was his own fault, those people are wrong. There were three main outside influences that were responsible for Macbeth’s fall. The first influence is his wife, Lady Macbeth, who seeks to be the queen and pushes Macbeth to pursue the crown. The second is Macbeth’s good friend Banquo who was with Macbeth when he was told he was to be king in the future. Banquo’s silence made Macbeth paranoid and that caused Macbeth to order his men to kill Banquo. This was a big cause in Macbeth’s insanity. The final influences are the three witches who drive Macbeth to kill Duncan, and they make him weak by letting him think he is invincible. Macbeth may have been a bad king, but he was not responsible for his collapse.
In the Shakespearean mystery novel, Macbeth, Macbeth is shown as a man of courage, valor and ingenuity to lead as a soldier of the royal kingdom, yet later he is easily influenced and enamored to do the unspeakable. Kill king Duncan. The ruler of Scotland. By deeming the king an obstacle; in the way of the crown, Macbeth sees it as a worthy price to pay for power. He has the dangerous ideology that he must become king through harsh measures, at the end of the story causes him to go insane with guilt.
As the events escalate throughout the play, Lady Macbeth acts as the main drive for Macbeth's ambition. Lady Macbeth sees the potential power in Macbeth and is determined to become queen. She manipulates her husband and when he hesitates before committing the murder, she questions his manhood. "What beast was't then /That made you break this enterprise to me? /When you durst do it, then you were a man/And, to be more than what you were, you would /Be so much more the man. Nor time nor place /Did then adhere, and yet you wouldmake both: /They have made themselves, and that their fitness now /Does unmake you"(I.vii.28). She is manipulating Macbeth by saying he is not a man. Her ambition is so powerful she wishes she was a man so she could commit the crime herself. Lady Macbeth says, "Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top--full of direst cruelty' (I.v.23). She longs to act like a man to kill Duncan. In the end this comes back to haunt her. Although Lady Macbeth has greater determination, she is unable to withstand the consequences of her acts. As the play progresses she is overcome with grief, leading her to kill herself. The power and ambition of Lady Macbeth ultimately leads to her own death. Through these events you see how power and ambition can be
The King of Death Life is supposed to be a roller coaster, not a sinking ship; and Macbeth had some ups and downs, but he forgot his lifeboat. The play “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare is about a man that kills to become as powerful as he possibly can. However he is influenced in many different ways. The Three Witches tell him in the beginning of the play that he will become king, they also tell him towards the end some key factors in his downfall. His wife Lady Macbeth urges him to do terrible things to others to further grow himself.
She believed that King Duncan should be murdered to further the power and influence of herself and husband, but was worried that Macbeth would be too good to do the deed. The act of murder for Lady Macbeth seemed obvious and she was willing to do anything to become queen. The murder of Duncan was the thing that changed her, like Macbeth, except she started to change paradoxically to Macbeth. The first murder made her more cautious to the idea of murder then opposed to murder and finally to outright disgust with herself and the things Macbeth was doing. The coping process for Lady Macbeth was the total opposite of Macbeth’s because instead of becoming emotionless she became overwhelmed by feelings of guilt and regret.
MacBeth is Responsible for His Downfall. There were many wrongs committed in "MacBeth." But who should bear the major responsibility for these actions? The witches prophesying the truth? Lady MacBeth's scheming and persuasion?
