Who is responsible for the sinking of the titanic? Have you ever thought to yourself who is responsible for the sinking of the Titanic?” Well many people have wrote something about who is to blame for sinking of the Titanic. It has been a mystery of who is held responsible for this action. So let’s find out. Many people say Smith is responsible for the sinking of the Titanic because Smith as the captain, he was ignoring the ice warnings, the captain was also putting the boat on full speed and did not answer the phone calls on the ship. A common argument against this position is that captain Smith is not responsible for the sinking of the Titanic because some peoples at its not his fault because he wasn’t the one who made the ship and had a fourth smokestack just for show. Yet, they got warnings about icebergs up ahead and ignored them. The articles says, “ Did you acknowledge the message? Yes they told the operator but he told them to shut up, or stand by, because they were busy”. This shows that he knew they got warnings about icebergs and ignored them.however people think that Captain Smith didn’t do it, the article states, “The …show more content…
For example “Did you acknowledge the message? Yes they told the operator but he told them to shut up, or stand by, because the were busy”. This clearly shows that Smith didn’t want anything to do with the calls. According to in the article “Exploring The Titanic” it says, “Captain Smith knew that the Titanic’s hull was divided into a number of watertight compartments. She had been designed so that she could still float if only the first four compartments were flooded, but not any more than that”. This proves, that maybe since Smith knew about the watertight compartments he thought everything would be fine if they hit something, although it should have been acknowledged that the calls were important for the safety of him and everyone
Edward Smith is to blame because when they hit the iceberg they still went on while the ship had a hole in it filling with water. Once they knew that they were filling with water they closed all doors under the ship so it wouldn't sink as fast. They watched the as they went by the iceberg after they had hit it and
The first reason that Ismay is responsible for the sinking of the Titanic is because, Ismay left the ship with women and children still on board. An article about J. Bruce Ismay and the Titanic says, " After the disaster Ismay was savaged by both American and British press for deserting the ship while woman and children were still on board." The article also says, “ Ismay told another story. He said he helped load eight lifeboats then when the deck looked clear jumped into an open spot. We obviously know there were 1500 people on the ship so it was by no means empty.” So if you were a child trying to get on a lifeboat what would you do? You probably would run around trying to find a life boat that was left still on the Titanic. Then
For a while they, felt that Smith was a no one and should just do what the government told him to do. Which is to be quiet forget everything that has ever happened, Smith did not want to forget he wanted to remember history. “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. His heart sank as he thought of the enormous power arrayed against him, the ease with which any Party intellectual would overthrow him in debate, the subtle arguments which he would not be able to understand, much less answer. And yet he was in the right! They were wrong and he was right. The obvious, the silly, and the true had got to be defended. Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earth's centre. With the feeling that he was speaking to O'Brien, and also that he was setting forth an important
In addition to Edward Smith being responsible for the sinking of the Titanic because he ignored 3 distressed warnings about ice. For example, the article “Titanic Captain Blamed for Wreck” says “...three distinct warnings of ice were sent to Captain Smith.” This clearly shows, that Captain Smith ignored 3 distress warnings that were sent to him. According to “Titanic Captain
Everyone needs to listen to what people have to say because it can really make a difference. The captain in “Wreck of the Hesperus” does not listen to the sailors concern about the ...

The Titanic claimed to be the ship of its time; one that would never sink. However, what the Titanic claimed to be was not the case because on April 15, 1912 the Titanic hit an iceberg, broke in half, and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. There has been debate ever since that fateful day as to how this happened to the Titanic. Some conspiracy theorist believe the ship never even sank -- regardless of the ships remains at the bottom of the ocean. Other conspiracy theorists believe the Titanic was actually switched with the RMS Olympic because of an insurance scam. Ever since that day, many scientists, engineers, and physicists have tried to analyze the problems of the Titanic; the reasons why it sank.
According to the story “From Exploring the Titanic”, Captain Smith did not seem all that worried about the iceberg and brushed away most of the iceberg warnings. This caused the rest of the crew to also ignore the iceberg warnings, showing the poor communication between the crew. The article “Titanic Past and Present” also states that Smith didn’t make sure the navigation crew was aware of the ice warning and did not post the warning to the chart room. This shows that Smith was very relaxed about the iceberg and did not see it as a threat, and so by the time they realized it was a real danger, it was too late and was responsible for the sinking of the ship. In summary, because of the captain’s laid-back attitude towards the iceberg, the crew did not see it as a threat, so they did not pay attention when they were approaching the ice field, and only turned in time to avoid hitting it head-on, but it still scraped the side of the
On April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean at 2:20 a.m. after striking an iceberg, with the loss of more than 1, 500 passengers and crew. Thomas Andrews knew the ship’s flaws when he designed her nevertheless, Captain Smith knew of the collision between the ship and the iceberg. However, left all faith in the “Unsinkable Titanic.”
Throughout that historic night, Captain Smith received several iceberg warnings from other ships and government officials (History). The captain got tired of hearing them and turned off the radio that received the messages. His plan was to make it to New York very quickly, and didn’t want to slow down for icebergs since he hadn’t come upon any bad weather throughout that day (History). After this travel, he planned to retire from the company and make this voyage the fastest and best one yet. Unfortunately, as it is known that was not the
With human error, many people could be blamed for the sinking of the Titanic. The two people I believe should be blamed for the sinking of Titanic are Joseph Ismay and Captain Edward Smith. The designer, Thomas Andrews, should not be blamed at all in the sinking of the Titanic. His original designs were either removed or vetoed when the ship was being built. Ismay should be blamed for the original designs being cut because he
Captain E. J. Smith had not slowed the ship's speed that night, although the ship's wireless operators had received several ice warnings. The ship was moving at more than 22 knots.
Who/What was responsible for the titanic disaster? Who/what was responsible for the titanic to sink, that's a question that a lot of people have asked but never got the true answer to. In my opinion this is why and who i think was at fault for the disaster. I believe that both radio men on the Titanic and on the Californian were partly responsible for the sinking ship and here's why.
Williams’ conduct demonstrates an expectation of captains’ behaviour aboard doomed vessels. Moreover, the investigation will probe the details of Captain Williams’ survival to determine whether or not the “captain goes down with his ship” values held true during that time period. The study will examine the Canadian government’s official inquiry, which was completed in Halifax a fortnight after the disaster occurred. The inquiry comprises the captain’s statement, crew and passenger testimony. The government also heard from local lighthouse keepers and citizens familiar with the Nova Scotian shoreline.
Lack of sufficient lifeboats could not prevent other difficulties that took place on the ship. Two problems that happened was a smoldering fire broke out in one of the ships coal bunkers and the breakdown of the Titanic's wireless system (Discovery.com). Edward J. Smith was the captain of the Titanic. Some might question his ability to command a voyage after fining out how Smith disregarded many ice warnings.
