Teddy Roosevelt Peaceful but Ready for War.

The best way to describe Theodore Roosevelt is an “Original”, a man like no other helping shape and influence American history for the better. Most people know him for serving two terms as president and being the youngest president to serve in history. He has even won a noble peace prize for helping end the Russo-Japanese war. Being one of the few faces found on Mount Rushmore you know this man was important. Theodore believed in peace but he would not be bullied by others. He supported desegregation and women’s suffrage he was a man that wanted to improve on civil rights something not as common at the time.

Theodor Roosevelt the 26th president of the United States was neither Democrat or Republican

he did not believe in presidential parties because he wanted what was right for the American people as a whole. Teddy was always doing something like reading, hunting or even boxing even while serving as president. A very energetic man that drink a gallon of coffee every day so he was constantly wired. Teddy didn’t want anyone to be so powerful they could hurt the country. JP Morgan a man that monopolized the western railways and was thought to be one of the most powerful people in the country. Teddy knew this man could take out the entire railroad industry and he felt that corporate American was gaining too much and that they needed “to let some steam out of the pot” Teddy believed no man should have this much power so he took him to the supreme court. Roosevelt won stopping JP Morgan and his monopolization of the railways.
In 1902 a coal strike happened across the country because of the miner’s poor working conditions.

Without cool the entire Northeast would freeze. Teddy quickly saw this as problem and did what he could to fix it. Roosevelt being the peaceful man he was brought both sides together that favored labor over management quickly ending the coal strike. He never wanted to see anyone have the power to hurt the country. He even saw that the meat industry was not regulated and not very sanitary so he created the Meat Inspection Act of 1906. Which made sure meat was safe to eat for everyone. He preserved land that is our national parks today because he wanted our children to see the beauty of nature. So every time you eat a hamburger or go one a hike in a national forest remember Roosevelt helped change that to what we have

today.
One of Roosevelt’s common quotes was “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far”.

Which basically means be polite and don’t start fights on your own, but be ready to fight if someone else does. Don’t back down from bullies but don’t be one yourself. This is something Teddy lived by he was a firm believer in the big stick diplomacy, the idea of negotiating peacefully with other nations while simultaneously threatening them with displays of military muscle. He used just that to help end the Russo-Japanese war. He devised a negotiation between the two countries. That Russia buy back the northern part of Sakhalin from Japanese control. After much debate Japan finally agreed to take back around half of the island without any kind of payment. Eventually this earned Teddy the noble peace prize for ending the Russian Japanese war by bringing peace back to the world through his negotiations. This shows just how peaceful and negotiating Theodore was. Roosevelt might have been peaceful but he was not afraid to go to war even as he served term as President in 1908 he still tried to be an officer in World War

Theodore Roosevelt was enthusiastic about his speeches and that very much of how important they were. On October 14, 1912 Theodore was going to give a speech and trying to run for a 3rd term in his presidency. John Shrank a man that followed Theodore Roosevelt on his campaign trail was against Roosevelt running a third time and was scared he would gain too much power. Shrank planned to assassinate Roosevelt right before his speech. Shrank fired his weapon at Roosevelt and remarkably the bullet went through 50 pages of the speech then went through his spectacle case slowing the bullet but Theodore was still penetrated by the bullet. Despite doctors telling him to go to the hospital Roosevelt replied with “No need to give this speech.” Even with blood pouring out of his wound Theodore still gives his speech. This shows the type of man Teddy was and that he wouldn’t let anything back him down.
Without Theodore Roosevelt American would be a lot different today. Teddy helped shape history because he wanted everyone to have a better life whether they be in America or outside the country. He gave us better working conditions, a more sanitary way to process the meat being sent out through America and helped keep a lot of our national parks and beauty of nature for generations to come. Teddy Roosevelt is man we can all look up to. He shows that we can be peaceful but we should not be bullied by others. He showed this by negotiating peacefully and ending wars but also wasn’t afraid to show the power of his country and go to war himself. With all of his energy and motivation to get things done there will never be another man like Theodore Roosevelt.
