What is a hero ? Is a hero made through a single defining event or through years of good works ? In the story A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney Carton is the hero in the book. There were three characteristics that made him a hero. First, he was able to change his self. Next, he was unselfish. Finally, he died to keep the person he loved happy. So, without a doubt, Sydney Carton was the hero in the story A Tale of Two Cities.
One reason Sydney Carton was a hero was because of his transformation from his personality. Sydney Carton was a self-destructive person, who didn’t care about anyone else or himself. In Chapter 4, Sydney Carton said “I am a disappointed drudge, sir. I care for no man on earth, and no man on earth cares for me.” This also showed
How do you define a hero? Some may define a hero as someone with great courage and bravery; to others a hero might be a strong warrior and leader who wins battles; others may define a hero as one who uses his brain as much as his brawn to win. In Homer's epic poem, Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as a hero by every definition.
Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
What comes to your mind when you hear the term hero? Is being a hero preventing villains from corrupting the universe? Yes, a hero is someone that stands up and tries to protect others from being harmed. In the book, The Outsiders, the Greasers proved to be the heroes of the story. It shows that no matter what your background is, you could always turn into a hero. They also showed that no matter how poor you are, you can still be a hero. The Greasers that I think showed bravery and fearlessness were: Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally.
Sydney Carton is also shown in the novel to be somewhat immature in his actions
What is a hero? Merriam Webster defines a hero as being a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities. What are those noble qualities? They are bravery, selflessness, and strength. Two heroes, Beowulf and Sir Gawain, exemplify these traits while the "hero" Arcita fails to do so.
What defines a hero? Is it the amount of courage and individual has that makes them a hero? Could a person become known as a hero simply from their achievement? Are noble qualities required of a person that is considered to be hero? The definition of a hero lies in the eye of the beholder. In my eyes, Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams displayed amazing courage, accomplished outstanding achievements, and had noble qualities, and that is why I believe that Hershel “Woody” Williams was a true hero.
A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Although he is looked up to Odysseus is not a hero because he is selfish and disobedient. He has gotten advice from many but has not followed them leading many of his men into death.
What is a hero? For the most part the answer to that question is entirely subjective, what someone must do in order to be labeled a hero or, for the matter, a villain is almost entirely up to each and every individual reader. In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the speaker introduces the protagonist of the play as a loyal and valiant warrior, typical traits of a hero, but it quickly becomes clear to any reader that Macbeth, the protagonist, is not in any sense of the word a hero. That insufficient heroism can be credited to a prophecy given by three witches that had a similar effect on both Macbeth and Banquo. The only clear hero of the play is Macduff, a man with a strong sense of loyalty to the country he swore to serve.
According to google.com a hero is someone who “is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievments, or noble equalities.” (google.com). For example, superman , superman is an all time american classic modern hero who is admired for his courage and for saving earth multiple times from super villains. Another example of a hero is Beowulf. Beowulf was created around 1000 AD and was known far and wide throughout the lands for his selflessness, bravery, and courage .
What makes somebody a hero? According to Campbell there are only four things that every hero needs to occur in a story: a special birth, early recognition, a great deed, and a loss of power. Hamlet is a hero that follows this basic outline. “King Arthur and the Tales of the Round Table” is another one of the most fitting tales for this archetype.
A hero is a man who is distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility. and strength to carry out tasks that involve great risks. A hero can also be a person who fights for other people to help or save them. from their fears and fears. He opposes the villain - a person who does wicked or intentionally harm others in some way, emotionally or otherwise.
Sydney Carton is introduced as a pessimistic introvert who struggles with his id and superego. Although Carton’s past is never revealed in the novel, a traumatic event clearly haunts Carton and prevents him from leading a pleasant life. According to Sigmund Freud, “the memories and emotions associated with trauma” are stored in the subconscious mind because an individual cannot bear to look at these memories (Dever 202). One part of the subconscious mind is the id, or “basic desires”, of a human being (Baker 4). Carton desires to drink as a way to detach from his past, and because of his lack of emotional strength, he allows his id to take over and Carton becomes an alcoholic. Based on Carl Jung’s ideas, Carton is considered an introvert because he is described as the “idlest” of all men and is viewed by society as a worthless drunk (Dickens 91). This displays Carton’s struggle with another element of the subcon...
I believe that if Sydney Carton was standing here today, the inspiration in his eyes and the selflessness of his heart would be evident. He would want to reassure us all that although he may be gone, the world will still keep moving as usual. He was only a small part in this great big world and that this funeral is nothing out of the ordinary, and that, in fact, all will be well. Sydney Carton lived a great example of the phrase “Do not judge a book by its cover”. Mr. Carton intelligence was extraordinary and he was always readily available to assist someone else before himself. During the time I have known Carton I have seen his character gradually grow from a disrespectful uncaring man to a hero. He became a hero to me when he answered to
