There are many characters in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet who are responsible for their deaths. In the beginning of the play, we learn that these two star-crossed lovers were destined for misfortune from the start. The Montagues and the Capulets have been warring families for many generations. Throughout the story, Romeo and Juliet were forced to keep their forbidden love a secret from their friends and families. This caused them to act out of desperation and ignorance. Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own deaths because they acted impetuously and forced their relationship which ultimately led to their tragic end.
Romeo’s and Juliet’s impulsivity led them to make fateful decisions that drove them to kill themselves. In Act I, scene v, Juliet says, “My only love sprung from my only hate” (Shakespeare 396). When Juliet says this, it shows how quickly she learns to love

someone and how she rushes into things that are not meant to be rushed. Juliet, a Capulet, worries about loving Romeo, a Montague, and doubts whether loving Romeo is worth the risk. “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (Shakespeare 393). Romeo, who was previously in love with Rosaline, quickly forgot about her and fell in love with Juliet. He did not care about the family feud or that their love was considered forbidden. Both Romeo and Juliet chose to follow their hearts which eventually made them take their own lives. Although Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their love for each other, their deaths may have been caused by other characters in the story.
One opposing view to Romeo’s and Juliet’s death is that Friar Lawrence is responsible. “Take thou vial, being then in bed, And this distilled liquor drink thou off.... Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift; Will watch thy waking” (Shakespeare 453-454). Friar Lawrence marries Romeo and Juliet in secret thinking the marriage could bring the two families together. When Romeo is exiled, Juliet goes to the Friar, and out of desperation, he forms a plan that has little chance of working out. “Here’s to my love! [Drinks.] O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die… O happy dagger! This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die” (Shakespeare 473-475). Romeo and Juliet are the ones who killed themselves and made the decision to not live without each other. Friar Lawrence is not there to stop either of them or talk them out of killing themselves. Their desperate actions and childish thoughts are what led them to take their own
lives. Romeo’s and Juliet’s secrecy, naiveness, and desperation led them to take drastic actions to be together. Their inability to think things through and realize the consequences led them to their demise. Although their families and friends could have supported them more, they ultimately made the decision to commit suicide. Fate and destiny play a big part in this story. Romeo believes that he is a slave to fate and has no controls over his actions. This adds to both Romeo’s and Juliet’s hopelessness, despair, and their fateful end.

1First, Capulet should be blamed the most for Romeo and Juliet’s death. 2 His first fault was to bear Romeo in his party. 3When Capulet was informed by Tybalt about the presence of Romeo (Montague) Capulet said, “A bears him like a portly gentlemen”. His ignorance towards Romeo’s presence cause the two youngster to fall in love which led to series of problems. His another mistake was to arrange Juliet’s marriage with Paris without her consent. When Paris came to ask to make Juliet his bride Capulet changed his opinion when he first asked and said, “I think she’ll be ruled-In all respect by me. Nay, more, I doubt it not”. Then he said to his wife that, “O’ Thursday, tell her, she shall be married to this noble earl.” This led to Juliet drinking the potion to pretend dead on the day of her marriage and Romeo’s servant Balthasar got the message of Juliet’s death before he got a letter from Friar Lawrence about her pretend death. This led to Juliet’s real death followed by Romeo’s death. Therefore, Capulet’s big heartedness and small heartedness caused the death of Romeo ...
Who is the most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? There are many opinions on who is to blame for the deaths of these "star crossed lovers." One of these opinions is that both Romeo and Juliet are equally to blame for their own deaths. Romeo nor Juliet knew how to resolve their own problems and went directly to Friar Lawrence. Whenever Romeo and Juliet failed to resolve their problem, their resolution was suicide. Romeo and Juliet also withheld the love affair between them, from their families.
The ill-fated lovers, the ill-disposed parents and the ill-mannered prince all contribute to the deaths. Because of their decisions and because of their behaviors and characteristics they play their parts in the conflicts. The Prince is to blame because he failed to fulfill his duty to the people of Verona. The parents are to blame for the neglecting of their children and for demanding marriage. And the lovers are to blame for their rash decisions. Those are the culprits in Romeo and Juliet of the deaths and demise of all and they carry the burden of blame.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Many tragedies and dramatic events happen throughout this play. Responsibility for Romeo and Juliet's Deaths There is much controversy to who is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, a number of things and people could be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. But who is responsible for their deaths? Even before the play begins the grudge between the Capulet and Montague families has begun. Because of this, it becomes imminent that one thing or event will start off a sequence of incidents that will end in tragedy. The on-going feud between the Montague and Capulet families could be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, because if their was no feud between these families then Romeo and Juliet would have been able to have a safe normal relationship in which their family would have agreed to.
Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths of the lovers, because he was secretive, did not communicate well, and he was a coward. He had the potential to stop everything and prevent the death. If he only had thought things through, Romeo and Juliet would’ve survived. The deaths of Romeo and Juliet solely rest on the Friar’s shoulder. The Friar set up everything that happened and created a huge mess that could have been prevented.
Although people may believe that Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence aren’t the main people that led to their deaths in the end, they are wrong because Romeo and Juliet weren’t forced to kill themselves and Friar Lawrence’s plan is what led directly to their deaths.
“For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” (V. iii. 320-321). The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two star-crossed lovers who have fallen in love despite the ongoing feud that their families face. In the short but dramatic story of their four day romance the two lovers meet, get married, are separated, and then die. They leave their families without a clue as to what has happened.
Romeo and Juliet is a timeless classic created by William Shakespeare, and follows the story of two lovers, but I am under the impression that there is another meaning behind the final outcome. The story starts with two characters from opposing houses falling for each other, and after a heartfelt tale of love, pain, and heartbreak, the story ends with them committing suicide. Yet, I presume that Romeo and Juliet’s deaths were actually caused by three main characters: Friar Lawrence, the Prince of Verona, and Lord Capulet. Actions taken by these three characters, led to a chain of events causing Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves. The Prince of Verona is is seen as a strong leader that is tired of disruption in his city, but as the story
Both Romeo and Juliet are devastated so Juliet turns to Friar Lawrence who comes up a plan to help her escape, Romeo is oblivious to the plan. They end up taking their own lives when they find that the other is dead. Romeo’s and Juliet’s own reckless decisions led to their tragic deaths. Romeo’s and Juliet’s deaths were caused by none other than themselves. “My only love sprung from my only hate!”
It wasn’t one thing that caused Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves but many separate factors that worked together to contribute to this sad ending. Like in life, many things are to blame for an incident, not just one. Three of the main reasons they died were, Friar Laurence's fatal mistake, their shared characteristic of impulsiveness and their families feud. This famous love story shows us that with almost everything, there is more than one cause.
