The inventor showed some really interesting experiments and stated that the generally considered test insulators, like glass and rubber are not as good as other not so considered insulators, like oil and wax. In his experiment, Tesla protected his hands from burning from 250,000 volts by holding brass balls. It shows a lot of his invention and told why the inventor came to America. He in fact designed the first major Hydroelectric Powerplant in the world at the Niagara Falls using Tesla’s Polyphase System of Alternating Current Electricity. What is more, the movie showed how Nikola Tesla had to deal with his problems in life, like the rivalry between him and Thomas Edison, which still makes people around the world wonder and argue about who was right. This documentary movie is a good source because it illustrates a lot of Nikola Tesla’s inventions and life moments, which is helpful for understanding the inventor’s life and thoughts. Also, the movie talks a lot about his life and how he changed the view and life of Americans and the whole world.

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer and physicist. He was also considered an eccentric genius and recluse. Tesla is best known for his feud with Thomas Edison over AC power Versus DC Power. He was also well known for inventing the Tesla Coil which is still used in radio technology today. Nikola Tesla was mostly forgotten until the 1990’s when there was a resurgence of interest in popular culture.
Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was an eccentric man that was many lifetimes ahead of his generation. He was a man that dreamed of giving the world an unlimited supply of wireless energy. His genius imagination allowed him to think outside the box and solve issues that others had thought were unsolvable. Nikola Tesla proposed his vision for a system powered by an alternating current generator to Thomas Edison and was shot down because Thomas Edison’s power structure had already been established using a direct current system. The two butt heads however Nikola Tesla was relentless. After being used and rejected by Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla picked himself and went toe to toe with the most prolific inventor. The stage for David vs Goliath was set. Through Nikola Tesla’s borderline obsession to solve the design for an alternating current motor and sacrificing his own opportunity to become a wealthy man, we now live in a very efficient world where everyone reaps the rewards of his genius, few know his name, and even fewer know what he did.
Tesla’s career as an inventor started when he was in his late twenties. He displayed his incredible understanding of electricity and physics when he created his first invention, the induction motor. The induction motor is a small, electric motor that has become a very useful machine. In fact, most household appliances run using Tesla’s induction motor (Vujovic 1). Score one for Tesla. Soon after he invented the induction motor, Tesla moved to America to try his luck at living the American dream. While in New York City, Tesla got the amazing opportunity to work for his hero, Thomas Edison. However, Tesla soon quit working for Edison due to some disagreements between the two inventors. And so with Edison and his men biting at Tesla’s heels, Nikola set out on his own to make a name for himself (Vujovic 1). Tesla soon became Edison’s greatest competitor. While tinkering in his lab with one of his inventions called the Tesla Coil, Tesla discovered that he could send and receive radio signals when his coils were tuned to the exact same frequency...
The major encounters that Tesla and Faraday faced included social, economic, intellectual barriers. Considering socially, Faraday was considered to be a “...high-priest of Nature, revealing the hidden forces...”(Shortland) People saw Faraday as the highest of his field, the one who was the closest to God in relation to understanding his creation. This also shows the social standard at this point in time, many going to church and understanding when someone references a religious point. As James Levine is famous for saying, “I was lucky that I met the right mentors and teachers at the right moment.” To me, one of the greatest mentors of innovative scientific history was Nikola Tesla. That being said, if given the opportunity to spend the next year of my life in a different time period I would like to live during the year 1942 so I could work beside Tesla. This was the year before Tesla died, a time when he had experienced the full scope of his expertise and could impart that wisdom to me. My questions about his popularity would be answered in full. Nikola Tesla is a man that many individuals associate with brilliance. Moreover, Tesla is a name that ignites impulses within an individual’s brain which illuminate, via bio-circuitry, the thought association of Tesla and brilliance, similar to the force we term as electricity. Brilliance however, shouldn’t be the only descriptive word to come to mind when thinking of one of the greatest engineers and inventors to live. Innovation and determination should be undoubtedly included in the list of descriptive words of Mr. Nikola Tesla. For without the innovative mind of Tesla, midcentury inventions as well as current technological advances would be nonexistent, or worse, credited to Thomas Edison.
I don't know who the encyclopedias say invented those things, but I bet it won't give any mention of a man by the name of Nikola Tesla. In fact, I bet they won't give much mention of Tesla for any of the many things he invented. We can thank Thomas Edison for this. The year was 1878 was the beginning of Electricity. That year Thomas Edison had made the first affordable light bulb. That year he focused primarily to make a light bulb powered by electricity which was safe; something that scientist were trying to make and succeed since 1828 "Thomas Alva Edison." History.com. His lighting systems were soon used to light the “Paris lighting exhibition” and the “Crystal palace of London” ("Thomas Alva Edison." History.com. ) Later on came in the “the battle of currents”

Although Edison did discover electricity, there was one person that changed electric technology forever: Nikola Tesla Nikola Tesla was born on July 10th of 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. He had a difficult childhood. His brother died in a riding accident when he was 7.
Some of his inventions were improvements on other inventions, like the telephone. He didn’t “invent” the telephone he just made it better. Some of his inventions he did try to invent, like the light bulb and the movie projector. The one he is most proud of was pretty much an accident--the phonograph.
This is where a man named Mr. Brown who helped Nikola with his money problems and let him use a lab. Here Nikola created his first actual none model AC generator and a few other devices. Edison tried to tarnish the AC generator’s name by saying it was unsafe and that his DC system worked better. This began the battle of the currents which was a fight between to group of people, the ones who supported the AC system, and the ones who supported the DC system. In the end Nikola’s AC system ended up winning this battle when he proved that it was safe at the world fair where he stood in a room filled with currents from his AC generator and came out unharmed. After the world fair Nikola didn’t stop with just the AC system he went on to create many new devices such as the tesla coil (or those zappy things in the Frankenstein movies) which are used widely in radios. He also created a wireless remote controlled boat, he improved the radio, and went on to try and give free power to the world but sadly this idea failed do to money issues. One of Nikolas biggest mistakes was ripping up a contract to get rid of payments from a friends failing company.
