The definition of honor means regard with deep respect. To me that means that people who have done great things to affect the world around them are honorable. Respect is something that can’t be earned easily. In order to get respect and be honored, you have to work hard and do your best. John Dalton is an honorable person. His hard work that he put forth affects our scientific knowledge today. John Dalton was born on September 6, 1766. He was an English chemist, meteorologist, and physicist. As a child, his family was poor. At first, he did not receive a good education. When he was just twelve years old, he started teaching at his school in Cumberland. He later became principal of the school and stayed there until he went to tutor people in math and philosophy in Manchester. Although poor, he still worked hard and strived in education. When in college, he joined a society called the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society. This …show more content…
In the 1800s, he proposed a modern atomic model. These lead too many theories which we believe to find true today. Some of his propositions are basic. All matter is made of atoms. Atoms of the same elements are identical. Each element has different atoms. The ideas he created are used for the law of conservation and the law of constant composition. In 1801, he gave a series of lectures that show research about gas and liquids, which was published the next year. His ideas were good enough and accepted during that time, which deserves some gratitude. In 1803, he theorized what is now known as Dalton's Law. It states, “the total pressure of combined gases is equal to the partial pressures of each of those gases separately.” He was able to configure atomic weights from six elements which are hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus—which are commonly known elements. In 1837 he had a stroke which affected his speech for over a year.
What is honor? Honor coins an individual’s nature. A principle that exists on the purpose of perception, a martyr willing to conform and accomplish. In the case of Shakespeare's play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Brutus was the most honorable of men. A brother to Caesar, but a father to Rome, he persist and perish for the future of his child. The idea of ignorance, and the belief of a false faith, turns this noble man toward a vulgar grave, with virtuous notions.
In 1801 he argued that the atmosphere was filled with mechanical gases and that the chemical reactions between the nitrogen and oxygen played no part in the atmosphere?s construction. To prove this he conducted a lot of experiments on the solubility of gases in water. This showed that dissolved gases were mechanically mixed with the water and weren?t mixed naturally. But in 1803 it was found that this depended on the weight of the individual particles of the gas or atoms. By assuming the particles were the same size Dalton was able to develop the idea of atomic weights.
Honor can be defined by how one holds them in the public eye. Others may say that honor is how you live your life when none can see your actions. However defined honor can play major roles in how a person will act in a given situation. The Crucible by Arthur Miller has excellent examples of how honor can manipulate people’s decisions in times of importance. John proctor holds his moral standpoint and does not falter into the temptations of selfishness, while Elizabeth would describe honor as how a person lives their lives. Honor means different things to different people, and this is quite evident in the tragedy that is Titus Andronicus. The definition of honor has changed throughout the history of man. The character for which the play is named, Titus, puts his honor and the honor of Rome before anything else. In the play, honor is used as justification for wrongful actions. There are murders that happen in the name of honor. Honor is also lost by some and taken from others. Although small in size, the word honor plays a large role in Titus Andronicus.
To have honor means to be respected, but is there honor among others who break laws? In the book, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, a group of Greasers, or hoodlums, make wrong decisions that lead to complex events. The Greasers are not honorable because Dally was being rude to Cherry Valance and was bothering her. Ponyboy and Johnny also ran away after killing someone. Lastly, Dally tells Ponyboy and Johnny to forget about the injured kids, which shows that he is selfish and doesn’t care about others.
He was first appointed as an assistant professor of chemistry in 1927 but then made a full time professor. During his career, he was also a peace activist, protesting that nuclear weapons should be avoided during wars. He thought this because he had theories that radioactive fallout would increase cancer risk, genetic disorders, and possibly birth defects. While he did these things, he also wrote books about his thoughts, theories, and discoveries. A few discoveries that he mentioned in his books included genetic diseases, nutritional therapy, and biomedicine.
...pics we can get at least a partial picture of how the ancient civilizations regarded the concept of honour and come to a few conclusions about what it is and how it functions. At times it seems like a commodity that is traded around, and it is certainly attached to material goods.
