When I think of the person I am today, I think of the things I have experienced, the things I have learned, and the people who have impacted my life. There are so many small things that I have experienced that have played a role in shaping my personality and character. Reflecting back on what I know, what I have learned, my beliefs and my background really helps me to determine who I am as a person right now.
I think I know a good number of things for my age. My parents have played a huge part of in shaping me into the person I am and exposing me to new things. For example, they have taken me on vacations and exposed me to new cultures and people that I would not have interacted with otherwise. Also, my mom stayed home with my brother and

I believe in God, I believe in love, and I believe that everything happens for a reason. The people I have grown up around helped shape my beliefs, but now I am reevaluating some of them and deciding if they truly reflect the person I want to be today and in the future. I think I believe in love because of my parents and their relationship. I believe in God because I grew up Catholic and I truly do believe a higher power exists. At this point, I do not know if I want to continue practicing Catholicism or if I want to explore new religions. Catholicism is all I have known and I am curious about what else may be out there that maybe fits better with where I am at in my life and faith right now. My family is supportive of this decision. So far, I have had a couple times, but not many, that I felt like my beliefs were being deliberately tested and challenged. I was thrown a little off guard in those situations, but I stood my ground and stayed strong in my beliefs.
I grew up in a traditional family with my mom, dad, younger brother and a couple pets. My family originates from Germany and Czechoslovakia and has been in the United States for several generations. I do not know much about my family history or why they decided to come to America at this point. I am close to both of my grandmas and most of my aunts and uncles. We all try to spend major holidays together and that is one of our main family
Although each family has their differences, they came together and formed the families that are living today. Where our ancestors came from and what they came to be are key components to what makes up family history. The dirt from several countries traveled across the ocean to reach the soil of America stayed planted for generations to
Family as defined by Webster’s College Dictionary can be one of many different people. Family can be your parents, spouse, children, brother, sister, grandmother, uncle, any blood relative, or even people who are not blood related that share that common bond (Webster 475). My definition of family is similar to Webster’s, but I feel that there is more to it than just being a blood relative or close friend. A person’s actions, beliefs, and morals play a major role in deciding who makes it into that “family” group. Family becomes more of an idea or feeling, like love or hate, than just who a person is or where they fall in your family tree. There have been people that I have considered closer than family just by their actions, even though they were nowhere near related to me. Fortunately, I have not had any blood relation family members make me wish they were not in my “family” (maybe my older sister when we were younger, but that doesn’t count). While reading from Children and Families in our text, I came across many readings that I feel were inspired in many different ways by what the author believed was “family.” There were two readings that jumped out at me and reminded me of my view of how a family should be in their interactions with each other. They were the short story “Flight” by Doris Lessing and the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes. There was also one writing that I read that went against my idea of family and made me happy that this wasn’t the way that my family acted as I grew up, that was “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid. And while some authors lean their writing one direction or another, Adrienn...
Romeo and Juliet is a sixteenth-century play written by William Shakespeare. Amongst the most renowned of Shakespeare's plays, Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy that focuses on the fated relationship of two star-crossed lovers. The play focuses on themes of love and hate, mostly concerning the feud between the two opposing families, the Montagues and the Capulets. This play came at a time when such social events like courting were not just accepted, but expected. Witchcraft and fate were also strongly believed to be real which makes aspects of the play seem somewhat surreal to a modern day audience. III.1 is a pivotal part of the play, within this one scene, the possibility of the play being a comedy is destroyed and there is only one unfortunate direction in which the fortunes of the characters can spiral.
So, who am I? Should I describe the person I see when I look in the mirror or the person I am working to become? The person I am changes with each new experience, with every person who enters or exits my life, and with how I handle the challenges placed before me. So, the person I am, that is something I will spend the rest of my life discovering.
Each family has their own unique background that helps make the next generation different from that of another and that’s what makes a country more diverse and has a cultural atmosphere.
Determining family structure and dynamics as well as defining the family is a complex process. Personally, I come from a very traditional family. Much like the assumptions made by the students in the article Defining Family: Young Adults’ Perceptions of the Parent-Child Bond by Mellisa Holtzman (2008). This is what comes to mind when most people define family; a nuclear family, with married parents, and biological children. However, a family is a complex system and can take on many different forms.
...ar to my family. When it comes to school, my family is very strict on their kids. There was a little pressure taken off me because I’m ADHD and have an IEP. When it comes to chores and responsibilities kids/teens are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and their education, fail to do so results in punishment. Religion, most of my family are christians but we are free to choose whatever we believe in nothing is forced upon us. My family has a little bit of Africa and the US but we also have a little bit of our own traditions and what not. When we get together we quote movies from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s and we tell stories from our childhood when we all live together. It brings us closer. My family is in between Africa and the traditions of America, but it’s good to know because in the end we celebrate our differences but realize we are not that different.
Families in the United States are very special because of the “melting pot” that took place in our country’s early history. Thousands of immigrants from other countries came to the United States bringing with them their culture and family traditions. Finding out our family history and becoming aware of the stories behind our names, culture, and traditions can be a very interesting and fun experience. The assignment of our paper was to talk to our parents and other relatives to discover our family history.
My family consists of my mother, father, and myself. I was adopted at birth and was raised by a family member
In my immiediate family, there are 5 members in our household. We as family have been living in bloomington, Minnesota for about 10 years now. My father Brian, who is in his early 50's, and is employed for the Toro company where he is a finance department. My step-mother Roxanne, who is in her mid 40's, and is employed by the government where she is a probation officer. My younger brother Niles who is 20 years of age, and is currently enrolled in a community college in Minneapolis, MN. My youngest...
Throughout the world, different cultures have different meanings on what family means to them. Some consider those who live together in a household to be family while others view family as those who come from the same descendent. Contrary to popular belief, there is not a standard type of family in the United States. The nuclear family is often considered the most common, however, even in the most common family structure different forms of family values derive. To fully understand what family means to different people and the social aspects that come along with it, I interviewed my friend Jessie.
In this discussion, I will be explaining how I define family. I will also include my immediate and extended family. I will also describe what family means to me, how mine differs from other families in my neighborhood, and also how they are similar. I will also describe my family’s ethnicity and how it may affect any of my family’s health.
My family and family history starts like most people’s. Two people fell in love, they had kids, their kids had kids and so on and so forth. But where we come from and who we are, is a completely different story. From our European roots, to the mixing of our blood once my family migrated to America, my family is quite complex but one that I am proud of and love greatly.
In the end, no matter what may be said about me, I know that I am some what of an abstract project. I continue to grow everyday and discover new factors that define me. I know what I stand for. I love myself, and the people around me. They don't create me, or make me who I am, but they do help be define myself
My family of origin consists of my biological father, who died when I was 19 and still a technical resident of the home (a college student), my biological mother, who is still alive, and one brother, approximately two and a half years younger than me.
