These four influences are definitely ones that have made me who I am today. My family background is a good one because I grew up with a single mother who worked as hard as she could to raise four kids was something that pushed me to do better. My mother couldn 't do it all with no help so she did have to get assistance from the government such as food stamps but she did everything else. And with her being in the situation that she always told me to do good in school and strive to do better than what she did and that is what I have been doing ever since. For my father he wasn’t really always there more of a I will see you here and there type of dad. I do love my father with all my heart seeing as though i am a daddy 's girl but the decisions he has made has affected our relationship. Since i can remember my day has sadly been in and out of jail and that really has hurt me and influenced me to make the right decisions and do way better in my life than what he did because growing up without a steady father i didn 't get all the father daughter moments like teaching me to ride a bike and stuff. However everyone else that was their all the time and watched me grow up did influence me a lot like my grandmother whom even though she was in a low social class she pushed herself to be more than just an african …show more content…
Which means i have to work ten times harder to get what and where I want. Such as job opportunities even though I am still young i still have to work hard for a job because most jobs will hire the male first or a non minority. MAny stereotypes come into play with being an African american such as being ghetto or loud or incompetent so I feel as though I have always tried my best to prove that I am not a stereotype. Each day I work hard to prove that I am going to be someone and I can be more than what someone
So, who am I? Should I describe the person I see when I look in the mirror or the person I am working to become? The person I am changes with each new experience, with every person who enters or exits my life, and with how I handle the challenges placed before me. So, the person I am, that is something I will spend the rest of my life discovering.
Coming all the way from Louisiana the Seattle, I have now become a student in the BA completion program. This quarter at the university I am studying psychology in the form of social research and redefining the role of a counselor. Through the guise of becoming a more serious student, I have been able to look at myself as a learner as well as take a look at the profession I want to practice. Antioch has helped me discover more than I thought I would be as a student at my age. A comprehensive education is deeply rooted in understanding, and my understanding will only grow deeper and more profound as I progress in my degree program. I can see the need for newer and more innovative psychologist in the field and practice of psychology. Psychology has a lot to do with the provider. In my opinion, the
At birth everyone is given a set of identities but as they grow up and find their place in the world with people they love those identities will change. I believe that changing identities throughout life will help a person develop into a better person. If a person has identified as multiple different things in his or her past then he or she will be more willing to accept and appreciate those who are different. I grew up being taught to always treat others the way I wanted to be treated and at times that can be hard, but I have always strived to be a kind and caring person.
Who I think I am? I’m not exactly sure who I think I am or how to describe who I think I am. I tend to act differently around certain people. Constantly changing to try to seek approval. Constantly in fear of accidentally doing something wrong; that I might say something wrong and all my friends will abandon me or leave me for someone better. I think this fear came from when my best friend was taken from me. I had known her since preschool, but she had met another girl and she stopped talking to me completely. I’m in constant fear that this will happen to me again, so I struggle to be accepted. I don’t want to be forgotten again.
Within my fifteen and a half years of living, I have experienced many heart wrenching moments that have changed who I am, so many that I stopped trying to keep count long ago. Like most teenagers, the past couple of years have been some of the most confusing, hectic years of my life. I'm at that age I'm trying to figure out who I am, as well as who I want to become. As indecisive as I am, I will more than likely change my mind a time or two, but right now at this very moment, I've finally come to terms with who I really am, and what I would like to do for the rest of my life.
When it is time for me to fill out any form that asks me to check my ethnicity I become confused. My confusion comes from the difficulty of not finding my ethnicity on one of the boxes and the assumption of others who sees me differently. The assumption of me being either from India or Bangladesh becomes an astonishing revelation when I say that I am not from either country. I identify myself as Guyanese Indian. I was born in Guyana by native Guyanese parents. However, my grandparents and great grandparents originated from Kolkata India. They were slaves who worked on sugar plantations in India and then transported to European colonies to continue their work.
Identity can be described as the way we view ourselves; the way that we distinguish ourselves from others while also comparing our similarities. In other words identity is what makes someone unique and average at the same time. To start off with I was born and raised in Jamaica for 6 years with my parents, but due to the fact that my parents were offered an opportunity to attend school in America they dove for a chance of a better life. My first home was in Jefferson, Missouri where it seemed like it snowed every day. White sheets of snow would cover every inch of the city, no stone or rock was left without an inch of snow. The city was so beautiful to me because it would always light up in front of my eyes. The people there was so nice that
For my "Someone Different Than I Am" paper, I chose to interview a co-worker of mine, Bret Webster. Bret is a gay man living in Erie County, and I wanted to know how our community treats those of different sexualities than their own. In simple terms, being gay means that you are sexually attracted to members of your own sex and that you identify with other gay people or the gay community. Sexuality is a term used to describe a whole range of feelings, desires and actions relating to sex. From working with Bret I know that he is a hard-working, super funny, amazing friend of mine, but I was curious to find out if he had ever been faced with any sort of hardship, due to his sexual preference, at school, work, or in relationships with friends and/or family members. I never looked at Bret as “my gay friend,” because to me, that never really mattered, so I guess because of that him and I have never really discussed what it is like for him to be gay. Before I conducted my interview I thought about what Bret could have gone through because of his sexuality. I feel like it would be hard because to some, gays and lesbians are seen as a minority, making them a target for crude humor and maybe even violence.
A person 's beginnings do not completely define a person, but it does serve as a permanent foundation from which their identity is built around. As children, we absorb every sight and experience like porous sponges. Family, religion, environment, culture -- all of these aspects slowly form the background of one 's identity. As an Asian American, this identity is very different from that of a native Chinese woman 's, for I have parts of both cultures within me. It is a unique identity which I believes acts as a double edged sword. Being born into two cultures is a wonderful in that one can be a part of two cultures, but it is also a very confusing to be "divided" between two very different cultures.
Why is influence such big deal? Influence gives you personal values. Influence comes from everyone or everything; that mean you can’t dodge it. Where this influence comes from is basely people or thing that interact with each other. Influence is important. It is how we learn in our life. Influences reflect on our personal judgment, socially or personally. Influence is always major in every single step that people take in their life. That is why our families worry about what outside or unknown influences that can bring us great hurt. This essay is about three people who have greatly influenced me. These three persons who influenced me improved my life, skills, and mood. My dad, Mike, and Jimmy are three people who have greatly influenced my life.
A person can be physically identifiable based on the matter they are composed of but their Personal Identity is far more than that. Despite any changes such as mentality and physical change, referred to as qualitatively changes, a person remains who they are. The philosophical question is, What it is to have a personal Identity? There are different theories discussing what is necessary and sufficient to define an individual's personal identity. So is there any theory that has truly capture the essence of what it is like to have a personal identity?
Do you know yourself? If you were to look in the mirror right now could you see the image of you staring back? If you were standing in front of God right now could you explain to Him who you are? If you were to write a paper right and answer the prompt: “Who are you” could you do it?
Hi, my name is Rob Geis and I am currently in grade 12. I have been at County High School for a year now; I joined at the start of 11th grade, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The school is great, the people are fantastic and the atmosphere is one that makes you actually want to go to school. Before I joined ASB I was studying at the Singapore American School for two years and prior to that I was at the International School of Kuala Lumpur for two years. I was born and raised here in Bombay city and grew up here.
In the end, no matter what may be said about me, I know that I am some what of an abstract project. I continue to grow everyday and discover new factors that define me. I know what I stand for. I love myself, and the people around me. They don't create me, or make me who I am, but they do help be define myself
“Perhaps it’s impossible to wear an identity without becoming what you pretend to be” (Card). This quote from Ender’s Game gives the reader the impression that identity is just something they can wear and that they will become the identity that the impersonate. A definition of identity from the Oxford English Dictionary states, “The fact of being who or what a person or thing is” (Identity). This old definition entails that a person’s identity is just who they are. It is also heard that people say anybody can be anything they want to be. These two ideas put together create a definition of identity that means a person’s identity can be whatever they choose it to be. However, a person's true identity cannot simply be worn as a mask, so this definition cannot be true and must be changed. A person's true
