The participants that are going to join are the students from Dr. Steph psychology class. In this study, the target population is going to be the group of participants who are students and are at risk of failing the class. The participants will be chosen according to the tests they have taken and what they got in their examinations. The students who got less than 65% will involve as well as the students who did incredibly good like students who are around 80% and higher. I plan to address Dr. Steph’s concerns by helping those students who are at risk by providing them with extra classes like SI. In this coaching class,it will include going over the lessons, will be meeting four times a week for 1 hour at evening time and also another session will be offered in the morning an hour class. This is because those students who have morning classes can attend evening and the ones in the evening class can attend the morning class. These will make sure SI is there for everyone anytime. It will also give them practice tests, quizzes and even give them handouts on lessons, also make them re-write papers. If they check in with the writing center give them three extra points. Also they can go to the TA to have a one and one session for 30 min to clear out on things if they think it’s hard to understand. These will be helping them with difficulties they have in classes. These will help them understand the course better which will help them get better grades as well as prevent them …show more content…

The top reason leading to most drop outs is financial issues. Most people in America can’t afford to pay for college on their own and need the help of grants or aids. The government makes it very difficult to obtain financial aid with such strict criteria that has to be met to be able to sufficiently pay for all of the student’s schooling. Sometimes students question themselves if college is really worth it? That question has many answers that only a student can answer and decide for him or herself. For some students college can have a positive, life-long outcome. However, there are many obstacles when it comes to college. A student has to be very dedicated in school, and they have to know how to manage their personal life, school and work. College seems like it has more negative effects than it does positive for some people. For the following reasons college is not worth the cost because it is very difficult to find jobs after graduating or they find a job that is not in their field, some students who are not academically prepared wind up dropping out of school and wasting their money and some students struggle to balance school life, personal life and work life. As a result these students end up dropping out of school.
The reality is that the rise in college tuition is no longer affordable for the average American household. Parents cannot afford to pay for their children’s tuitions on their incomes and students are very often forced to enroll part time in order to have the time to get a job to pay for college. This very often causes a decrease in these students GPA and consequently increases the number of dropouts in the long run. Other times, it will take these students double the time to complete their degrees. Students are faced to deal with these problems when deciding whether continuing their education is the right choice.

Difficulties Attending College Today everyone thinks in order to succeed financially in life they need to have a college education, or at least most of the time this is true. I personally think that despite the many difficulties that a person is faced with, they can overcome their troubles somehow, even though sometimes they can not help but think otherwise. I, myself, have three different reasons why people find it difficult to stay in college. For one, sometimes they still have to keep on working while going to school. Two, they have children, too.

However, dropping out of college is not always negative, in fact, familiar problems can yield positive results. In terms of financial support we know that college costs money, so a lot of students cannot afford it. Their first study was composed of 443 college students from two large universities in the Midwest. The participants were offered credit in their introductory psychology classes in return for their participation. They completed a questionnaire as part of their participation. 52% of the participants were men, and 48% were women. 94% were between the ages of 18 and 25. Only the 404 students that had complete data were used to set up the model that the experimenters formed. Since the early 70s theorists have pondered the causes of college dropout. Generally referred to as “student attrition,” this problem has spurred numerous causal theories and theoretical models. Vincent Tinto led the research with his revolutionary 1973 study, which he later revised (1987) amid criticism from other luminaries in the field, most notably Bean, Astin, Terenzini, and Pascarella. It is on the work of these scholars (including also Tinto) that all modern research in the student attrition field is based. I found and will review in brief some of the extensive research from Tinto to the present, including the basic criticisms therein. I will further explain the steps some colleges are currently taking to counteract this increasingly important issue.
The causes are almost certainly many and consistent. What seems inescapable is the conclusion that dropping out of school is one of the important factors related to the difficulties of people. The causes of dropping out reveal families in trouble. All too often, families with areas of high pressure are characterized by single parents, lack of parenting skills, and substance abuse. The most common causes of dropping out are money, family, and time management.
