The United States of America, in its short history, has given birth to numerous brave and honorable men. These men have helped shape and mold the country to what it is today. When someone thinks of men who have molded the United States, one might think of the Founding Fathers or early pioneers like Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett. One might also think of great presidents such as George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. These men laid the foundation of how the country should be led. There is one trait that all these great men possess, and that trait is determination. Determination is what fueled these American Renaissance men to do the great and brave things they did. There is one man who possessed an abundant amount of determination, and he was not going to let his physical circumstances get in the way of his goals in life. By the end of his presidency, he had changed the way the world looked at America. Despite his crippling disability, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was able to overcome his adversity and lead the United States out of the Great Depression and through most of World War II.
Firefighters, cops, and just regular people can be heros when others lives are involved. Heroism is different from good samaritans. Good samaritans do good things and are honest were as heroism includes bravery and selflessness. I believe that honoring the victims of 9/11 is a great thing. Many of the helped one another even went they had the opinion to work away. They show us what being a hero is all about.
When you think why veterans are our heros the typical thought is they’re brave, courageous, amazing, etc. A hero isn’t just some famous person on social media that someone worships just because of their publicity. A real hero are those men and women out their serving and protecting our country. The real reasons in my opinion, is way more than just that. I mean think about it, if you had just won the lottery or you were having the time of your life and you don’t even worry about the wellbeing of your country would you really put at risk your life for your country?
A hero will sacrifice their own life for the life of others. Welles Crowther is an example of this because growing up he wanted to be a firefighter and trained to be one. He got an oppurtunity to be like a firefighter because, “When terrorists attacked the twin towers, he put that training to work and lost his life while helping others”(www.wcvb.com). So while he was saving people's lives he lost his own and became a hero. But he wasn’t the only person to risk their life that day, because Moira Smith, the first officer to report to the twin towers, also gave her life, “Officer

In today's superficial society, there are many stereotypes and groups into which people are categorized. There are also many people that are celebrities, who many ordinary citizens see as leaders in life. Many high-end sports figures such as Michael Jordan or Ray Lewis are seen as heroes and idols to many youths in America and around the globe. However, what they do is not really heroic; rather it is merely grown men playing a game. After the tragic events or September 11th, another type of hero, a true hero, has come to be heralded in America. The courageous men in this group are called firefighters, and protect citizens twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. They sacrifice their lives for anyone, no matter what danger to their own being. They have not been appreciated the way they deserve to be for one reason, a term called hero worship in society.
The Lone Ranger, Zorro, Batman, Superman are some of the characters that we stereotypically constitute as heroes. They are known to fight with courage without fear of death. They destroy the enemy within a blink of an eye. They fight using their own body strength, superpower, or some kind of weapon. They come to the rescue miraculously and leave without a trace. They are mysterious. We are unable to identify who they are underneath the masks and disguises. Yet, we praise them and ignore the real heroes that surround us regularly, ordinarily. “All of us …like to believe that in a moral emergency we will behave like the heroes of our youth, bravely and forthrightly, without thought of personal loss or discredit” (O’Brien 39). In other words, we are quite oblivious to the ordinary people of the world that are, in fact, the true heroes.
