Where is the Love?
Many people over the years have heard of the popular song “Where is the Love?” by the Black Eyed Peas. For this song, there were many songwriters including three of the group members, Will.I.Am, Taboo, Apl.De.Ap, and Justin Timberlake and Ron Fair. The Black Eyed Peas are known for being and American Hip Hop group, but in order to make this song successful and relatable to people who like different types of music, they had to change up their sound and add a little bit of pop influences. During an interview with MTV, Ron Fair stated that he told the group that essentially they would have to make a transition and venture out of their comfort zone if they wanted to make a hit. In order for the group to make this change and dive into the Pop world, they brought in artist, Justin Timberlake. The song writing process for “Where is the Love?” began in late 2001 was put on their third album, Elephunk, which was released during the middle of the year in 2003. As previously mentioned, the song “Where is the Love?” was in the works during the last couple of months in 2001. Anyone who knows their dates or those who have taken a history class know that the attacks on the Twin Towers happened September 1, 2001, so the writers of the song found some inspiration in something that was so tragic so that they could get a message across to people across the world.
The Black Eyed Peas were put together as a group in 1995 and it was not until 2003 that they started to gain a lot of recognition and credibility due their third album and their first popular hit, “Where is the Love?” Their newly released single, at the time, peaked at number eight in the United States and topped the charts in 13 other countries, including the United ...

... what they want them to. Like every other person, the media is also driven by greed and it is very easy to persuade people to believe lies rather than giving them the truth.
In the end, the song, “Where is the Love?” is about trying to find and spread love instead of hate. As a whole, we should try to look past the color of a person’s skin or their religious beliefs and try to focus on the good in the world and eliminate some negativity. Also, money and greed should not be our only motivation in life because in the long run materialistic items will not make a person have a happy life.

Through manipulation and lies, media manages to modify objective news into biased news in order to convince the public of what the media wants them to believe. The article, “How the Media Twist the News”, by Sheila Gribben Liaugminas discusses the major influence that news has on readers based on their choice of stories and words. “How the Media Twists the News” has borrowed from multiple other texts such as the books like Public Opinion and Liberty and News, news magazine writers such as Ruderman, and news networks like CBS through Bias, A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News and CNN to make her arguments valid and prove that the news is biased and that it does influence readers significantly because of it.
... song entitled “Formation”. The filming took place in Los Angeles, but features references to Hurricane Katrina, with Beyoncé on top of a police car in a flooded street and later cuts to a man holding a newspaper with Martin Luther King Jr.’s face on it with the title “The Truth”. Later a young hooded boy dances in front of a line of police officers with their hands up before the video cuts to a graffitied wall with the words “stop shooting us “ tagged on it, at the end of the video the police car sunk with her on top. Not only did this song, bring awareness to the 10th anniversary of hurricane Katrina it also brought awareness to police brutality, racism, and the “black lives matter movement”. I stand with Lil Wayne, Beyoncé, the people of New Orleans and the countless others who are pushing for a change in the way minorities and the lower class citizen are treated.
The first major hit that Loesser lyricized in 1934 was titled I wish I were twins. This song romanticizes the relationship between two lovers. One of the two lovers are so madly in love that they wish they could two people so they could love their significant lover more. This song runs a parallel to events taking place in like the Dust Bowl which started in 1934. At the same time the economy started to turn around and the spark for love continued because not only did the economy start to pick up but a social scene had been built around music. The next song that continues to be popular today Heart and Soul continues to reflect the American love scene and how much this man has fallen for this girl not just physically but truly in love. This music enticed American’s in October hitting the top of the music charts just before the World of Wars took over the radio at the end of October throwing the nation into havoc. At this time Dating was the scale of popularity according to a 1938 article in Mademoiselle Magazine. As the United States recovered from The Great Depression music progressed with society and the flare of
“The Godfather of Soul”, better known as James Brown grew to be one of the most influential artists in Michael Jackson’s life. As a child Michael Jackson was intrigued by Brown’s flamboyant performances on stage and would soon begin to implement them into his own stage acts. By the age of five Michael Jackson was already sealed into a world of show business by his father, Joseph Jackson. Deprived of a childhood at a very young age, Michael and his siblings began a family-musical group called “The Jackson 5.” They began playing the soul hits they listened to on the radio all across the country. The band toured the Midwest extensively from 1966 to 1968, frequently performing at clubs and bars. In 1966, they won a major local talent show with renditions of Motown hits and a cover of “I Feel Good (I Got You)” by James Brown. It wasn’t until July 23, 1968 where they received major recognition by Motown owner, Berry Gordy. Gordy was reluctant to sign the “Jackson 5” but after their audition performance of the song “I Got the Feelin”, by James Brown, he changed his mind. In March 1969, “The Jackson 5”, were officially signed into Motown records. This marked a historical point in Michael Jackson’s life where his musical influences from James Brown would be noticed. Song’s from Michael Jackson that s...
“Same Love” by Macklemore is a song that tackles a tough social issue and the importance of the issue in a very successful manner. I have great respect for Macklemore for choosing such a controversial and important topic, when his celebrity status is still relatively new and in the limelight. He saw that he had the power and media’s attention, so he took that opportunity and used it to make a positive statement.
The late Michael Joseph Jackson was a 20th-century African-American singer and songwriter who transformed the face of pop music and popular culture throughout his lifetime (Michael Joseph Jackson ). Debuted in the professional music world in 1968 at the age of 10 as a member of The Jackson 5, Jackson’s rise to fame had been largely influenced by his invaluable contributions to the music, dance and fashion industries (Michael Joseph Jackson). Hailed as the ‘King of Pop’, his solo album “Thriller” remains “the best-selling album of all time”, with global sales of “over 51 million copies to date since 1982” (Guinness World Records ). Michael Jackson’s one-of-a-kind songs have also earned him over 700 awards, including 13 Grammy Awards as well as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (Michael Jackson; Grammy). However, his music recognition goes beyond what his cupboard-full of awards could ever represent. In this paper, I propose that Michael Jackson’s songs have touched and changed many lives through his constant fight for racial fairness. In particular, I argue that Michael Jackson used his music career as an outlet to break down racial barriers in the American music industry, to express his disappointment towards racial discrimination, to demonstrate his support for racial equality, to advocate that the color of our skin does not differ us from one another, as well as to show and guide others that change has to begin within oneself before impacting the world . Although certain parties would point out that Jackson used derogatory r...
As it opens with imagery reminiscent of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, an event that devastated the black communities in the areas affected. The delayed assistance in New Orleans by the U.S. government stirred some controversy that led many to question how much America really cares about its black communities. Nonetheless, Beyoncé’s video is full of imagery that is associated with black culture, including historical references to black communities in the south. But what is really important about “Formation” are the lyrics. With lyrics like “My daddy Alabama, Momma Louisiana, You mix that negro with that Creole make a Texas Bama” and “I like my baby hair with baby hair and afros, I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils,” Beyoncé is undoubtedly declaring her pride for her blackness as well as defending her child Blue Ivy who has always been scrutinized for the way her hair looked. Thus, this song is obviously geared toward the Black community which is obvious due to the lyrics and the imagery in the music video. To put it plainly, this song is a proclamation of Black pride and shouldn’t be thought of in any other way. However, after performing it at the Super Bowl people of other ethnicities became aware of the song and became offended by her performance as well as the lyrics. Controversy arose as people pointed out her backup dancers were dressed similarly to the Black Panther
Mass media controls the public like puppets. It affects everything a person does with their lives. Just like in Fahrenheit 451 we live in a society of fantasizers. We believe what the media tells us and to not question it but just go along with it. Media is everywhere whether we are aware of it or not.
The song “Where’s the Love?” by Black Eyed Peas displays many sociological concept in the context of its lyrics. In this song the band is expressing their concerns with the world’s views and actions of the present day. They question the mentality and reflect upon the realism of the world. The main idea surrounding this song is concentrated around the social construction of reality and how the world is changing. The song expresses the way people are not living up to society’s norms and values. It suggests that various agents of socialization are at fault and that they contribute to the development of self.
...re are many people that believe everything they have to say. For example take Bill Clinton, our own President; he stood up and lied straight to all of us saying he never committed adultery. And then what about Watergate? And we elect these people into office to govern us. I cannot believe the media, they only tell what they get from the government, a system that lies and cheats its way through.
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality. Instead of spreading love we 're spreading animosity. Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity.” Here, they are questioning the actions of human beings by asking what happened to people’s values. In the same line, the Black Eye Peas tie back to their central question “where is the love” by asking where is people’s humanity. They then go on and question society’s fairness and equality tying back to discrimination and racism they talked about earlier in the song. By restating this problem, the Black Eye Peas are revealing to their audience that people today are choosing to set themselves apart from other people in their community, thus creating absolute separation. In addition, by using the word “animosity,” the idea of being in absolute separation and choosing to be strongly hostile leads to spreading more violence and cruelty into

Jackson often released songs that had powerful messages behind them e.g. 'We Are the World' and “Black and White”. Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us” released as part of the “HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I” album in 1996, was addressed to “the people” in an effort to promote equality, justice, and peace. However, it led to unexpected controversy
