In my opinion, Where the Red Fern Grows was an amazing book. It’s honestly amazing because I don’t really read books because most of them are boring. This book is very touching and I will admit that I have cried a few times while reading the book. If you are looking forward to a touching story then this is the right book for you. If you’re not into that kind of stuff then you wouldn’t really like the book. I’m a really touchy person so I liked the book. It all depends on what you’re looking for and what genre you like. The book was boring at times but the majority of it was pretty interesting. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Billy’s sister was like mommy you forgot Sammy, or something like that along those lines. Here is what
what kinda sucked about it is that they dragged out to the end. which made you know what's going to happen when ending came. that's why it was so dull cause I was on the last page and Sam still hasn't been killed yet so I knew right away what was going to happen. Recommendations: I would recommend this if you want to study the sight affects of the war.
The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. The parts that I found boring were when there was a lot of description going on from the author. I do realize that it is necessary to set up the scenes and locations so that us as readers can have a better understanding of what is happening in the book, however I felt like at times he went too far into detail and had me nearly sleeping at times, literally.
I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Once I get past all of the rambling I did in the past paragraphs, I honestly really enjoyed the book. Though it wasn't like most of the other books I’ve read (meaning I didn't cry during the process of reading it), the characters were just as provokingly interesting as the characters in other stories, it was a little edgy and made me want to yell at it, shouting at Sam when she wouldn’t let Tyler play video games with Danny, or Danny when he called to have Sam and Tyler taken to a separate facility. Overall, this book opened me up to something that just isn't a romance novel. This story really shows that there are people with a lot of difficulties in their lives, and that’s what I liked the most about it.
The characters in this story are some very interesting people. They each lead their own way of life, and have their own interests at heart. Some of the main characters in this novel are: Sarny, Lucy, Miss Laura, Bartlett, Stanley, and Sarny's two children Little Delie, and Tyler. Sarny is the central character in this book. She is clever and knows exactly what to even in the worst of times. She is very emotional though, and can break down and cry when the slightest of things happens. This is perhaps from what she has experienced as a slave earlier on in her life. Sarny is fond of teaching people, as a friend named Nightjohn once taught her. Lucy is Sarny's close friend. She is also quite wise, but is a bit too optimistic at times. She never stops smiling and is very friendly. However, she does help Sarny find her lost children. Miss Laura is a middle-aged woman who lives a very luxurious life. She gives Sarny and Lucy a place to live and offers them employment. She also finds Sarny's children for her. Bartlett works for Miss Laura as well. He is a quiet and patient man who is helpful and quite kind. He was however castrated as a young slave boy, and cannot have children. Stanley is Sarny's second husband, for her first died from being worked to death on the plantation. Stanley is a gentle, big, fun-loving man, but is not intimidated by anything. This leads him to his death when he gets mad at a white man, and is confronted by the Ku Klux Klan. Little Delie and Tyler are Sarny's lost children. After she recovers them, and they grow up, Little Delie starts to like business, while Tyler wants to become a doctor.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical fiction books where the characters learn life-altering lessons. I also feel that people of all ages would enjoy this book because it’s messages and theme was very positive. While I did enjoy this book, I think I will not be reading another historical fiction novel for my upcoming book response.
I have a few dislikes about the book. My first dislike about the book is that it was full of vulgar language. I did not like the use of vulgar language in this book. I see no need in having it. Another dislike about the book is that it did not have any pictures. Pictures help people visualize what is happening in a story better.
I think my favorite thing about this novel was the realistic ending. Some books try to just give you a fairy tale but this book had an ending that mad you think in the end if I was in the same position would I do the same thing. I didn’t like the fact that the novel portrayed mental illness in a way to say that it needed to be hidden and protected. I thought this novel was very believable for the time period that it was set in. I think the ending to this novel was perfect it was an accurate ending to this
Where the Red Fern Grows contains constructive ethical lessons. It has adventure, suspense, love, sadness, and a happy ending; all the characters experience pain, and grow up a great deal. I enjoyed reading the book again after all these years, and I will undoubtedly urge my children to read it when they get older. Where the Red Fern Grows is a timeless poignant child's book.
The book is sectioned into three sections. The three sections were the stories of three kids, who were going through the same tragedy but in there view. I liked the way she did this because not only gave you a detailed look through one child, but you go to experience the knowledge of three different children and what they thought. It makes it possible for more people to be able to relate to this book.
This was a great book, but took me a lot longer to finish then most, simply because of how upsetting some of the things talked about are. If you’re look for a book that will make you think, and bring tears to you’re eyes, and teach you a thing or two a highly recommend this book, and might actually read it again myself. Hopeful my eyes can stay dry this time.
I thought ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ is a very good book. It was good to watch both characters, Tom and Will, grow throughout the book, and how even when the worst things you can imagine happen, you can recover from it and still have a good outlook on life. My favourite part in he book was when Zach, Tom and Willie all went on holiday, because it was just such a happy chapter. I also learned that not all children who were evacuated were miserable. I thought they were all sob story’s about how they were missing their parents, but this shows that they did learn new things and grow to be better people at the end of it. When I first started reading the book, I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it, but as it turns out, I really enjoyed it.
My Favorite part of the book was when my character the Lady Bug girl tells the other girls, we don’t fight each other, we work together and everyone got along together. They all had fun on the playground.
I thought the book was okay, but not that good. Because nothing really happened in the beginning and that was very boring. Things started to happen in the middle of the book, and it got more interesting. The text in the book was very well written and perfect for beginners like me, since English isn’t our first language. The author writes the story from all of the children’s perspective and I thought that was very interesting to read, because you got to know what they all were thinking about in the same situation.
