Our group for the world cafe project consisted of Kip, Ashley and Martell. We came up with the following question to ask the people who attended the World Cafe: Given the recent proposed travel ban, how would this impact American citizens for better or for worse? This question is relevant to almost everyone within the united states, maybe not directly but, there is a reaching effect on all of us. Given the countries who are listed within the travel ban, it appears to be largely targeted towards the muslim people, some of whom may currently be us citizens, if they have family and friends in these regions, they will be impacted by the travel ban. The travel ban goes against what I believe makes us a great nation, the people of the US are a fusion of various races, cultures and religions throughout all parts of the world. There isn’t any one race, religion or culture that makes someone more “American” than someone else. Valuing others for their diversity in different backgrounds, experiences and skills bring a fresh …show more content…
We each invited some personal friends and family along with some signs posted on the day of our event. Our Cafe was at 6pm on Tuesday, March 28th and we provided a party sub with chips and beverages for those who attended the Cafe. We started off by eating and keeping it informal as we waited for others who were still on their way. This informal start gave everyone the opportunity to start talking, there was a lot of small talk and mingling taking place as we ate. We created a welcoming atmosphere which included some music playing in the background, welcoming small groups of tables with center pieces and flowers. We ensured the layout of the food, tables and chairs were positioned to allow the movement of the group as we
In Mara Sapon-Shevin’s short story, Widening the Circle, she uses the dinner party scenario on how she can use inclusion and make sure each person is accommodated
This table is high off the ground and we sit on stools, which makes it feel like we are at a bar, or another type of informal eatery.
Discrimination Imagine being discriminated against anyplace you went, with glares from many and you haven’t done anything to receive those judgments. Muslim Americans in the U.S. have to deal with that discrimination every day post the events that happened on 9/11. Some take drastic measures, such as changing their birth name, in hopes that they can avoid being judged by others. Muslim teenager Alisha, told her story that while visiting Six Flags with her family, an American man yelled at her father with the racial comment, “F**k you Osama!” She would also get asked offensive questions, like if she hated Jews too.
The 9/11 attack changed America in ways that made limits on our freedom and privacy seem better than the alternative. On September 11, 2001, “...our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist attacks,” President George W. Bush stated in a public address shortly after the attacks. He also stated, “Today, our nation saw evil – the very worst of human nature – and we responded with the very best of America,” to calm fears ...
Organise the stag night. Or in Brian’s case, hen night as Brian insisted on inviting more girls than guys. It was actually a very civilised affair, walk in the countryside, few drinks in a nice pub, then a lovely meal with fine wine and champagne in the evening.
To impel, Trump’s travel ban is flat out illegal. This is in accordance with The Immigration Act of 1965 which was summarized by The New York Times as follows “The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 banned all discrimination against immigrants on the basis
At large parties, you may introduce yourself. When dining, you should not sit until you are told where to sit and you should not eat until the hostess starts. It is polite to keep both of your hands visible while eating and to leave some food on your plate when finished. Only men are permitted to give toast.... ... middle of paper ...
This misguided executive order threatens our world standing, drives away talent and is discriminatory. The ban goes so far as to discriminate by religion affording Christian refugees preference over Muslim refugees. The ban clearly violates the first amendment of the United States Constitution guaranteeing freedom of religion. Christians all over the U.S. have denounced this discriminatory preference. Trump’s Muslim ban also threatens financial markets, the value of the dollar and undermines globalization. It restricts intellectual capital preventing leading technologists, researchers, engineers, academicians and others from entering into the U.S. and has been roundly rebuked by leaders from the Silicon Valley. The blaring reality is that Trump’s Muslim ban targets seven countries--whose citizens were not involved in 9/11. The Global Terrorism Database of the University of Maryland’s National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism found that no American has been killed in a terrorist attack in the United States by a national of the seven banned countries. Yet Trump’s ban used 9/11 as the basis for its enactment, while simultaneously causing a seismic shift in US counter-terrorism tactics. This could pose a real danger for the US with extremist groups now using Trump’s actions as a tool to recruit. The Muslim ban is a clear and present threat to our national
I introduced myself. I learned that the facilitator for the night is actually a member, a 30-year sober member. I was asked to enjoy refreshments and was greeted cordially by present members. The meeting was held in a church reception hall and the room was set up with 3 tables parallel from each other. I participated in this group as an observer, although, I did introduce myself at the beginning. The issue of this group was alcoholism and how to stay sober. The purpose of the group is to be a support system for those who are struggling with sobriety and those who have been successful in sobriety. The group focuses its healing around the 12-steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. This support group is open and provides no limit to the attendee
The event was located in Rancho Cucamonga in a pleasant pizza restaurant named Pizza Royal. The event was rather small but as people say quality over quantity, and I can say without a doubt, it was a fine event. The event consisted of numerous deaf people, ASL students, and interpreters ranging from students my age,
...ll. The group knew the rules and the agenda for the meeting that worked very well for everyone in attendance.
Initially when our group was formed, we politely introduced ourselves, which led to awkward silences and little talking. Everyone
Planning a Party The process of planning a party takes a lot of time and focus to get every detail covered. First of all, you must decide where you will have the party, maybe a club house or your own home. When you have that decided, then there are several other steps you must take in order for your party to be successful. You have decided on a location, and now it is time to make a list of the people who will be attending.
American culture needs no excuse to gather in small or large groups for nearly any occasions. It could be a simple gathering of friends to discuss books, watch a movie or even just relax and enjoy ones company. Although, the American culture is formed on informal encounters, we tend to be time conscientious; therefore appointments are expected to be kept and timely. For that reason, if I were invited to a gathering, my promptness would be expected. Furthermore, time is of the essence. Thus, once I arrived I would eat and chat and leave rather quickly. I may even bring an unexpected quest to the gathering. Generally, the atmosphere is relaxed, therefore, little or no emphasis on seating arrangements or guest lists. Gatherings are on a
