Anthropology is the study of humans throughout the world. Anthropologists study our social and cultural aspects as well as our biological aspects that make us human. Anthropology is extremely relevant to understanding homo sapiens because they study our evolutionary history, how we behave, and most importantly how we adapt to new environments. Anthropology is a key piece in learning about new environments and now that Mars is inhabitable Anthropologists will have to prepare us. Genetic drifts can happen among all populations, but for the most part smaller populations are generally more effected by it. The drift generally reduces variation in a population, which directly affects their ability to be able to survive. A mutation is defined as a permanent change in DNA sequence in a gene. A mutation can occur in several different conditions, high amounts of energy, radiation and even sunlight can mutate DNA. Although some were used to warm weather, no one was able to prepare them for the heat. Because Mars is also a bit tropical, certain species could be a threat to the humans. Due to the radiation, snakes and fish were twice the size than the ones found on Earth, and half were poisonous. Scientists provided the population with a weeks worth of water supply, and packets filled with information about the new planet, including pictures of poisonous animals and plants. Scientists knew that Mars would be a relatively warm planet, so the population packed accordingly, but with a limited water supply many got dehydrated. After a week, they were able to find a water source, and it healed many. After finding water, they were able to catch fish and other sea creatures to eat. The population used rocks and thick sticks to make spears to hunt the fish, but they were unable to make weapons large enough to take down land predators. Scientists also sent vegetable and plant seeds with the population so they were able to plant some vegetables like squash and potatoes. The population still struggled to get proper protein. Because of their healthy diet, the population was relatively healthy but some complications would come about due to lack of protein, especially in young adults. Science is important because it is the ultimate tool in the progression of humankind. The point that I thought most connected to my path in life was the fact that science is important in medical studies and technology. Science helps us not only improve medical technology but also to become aware of diseases, their causes, and possibly find a cure. Also, science can help us make technology that spots something before it becomes a deadly disease or even prevent it completely in the first place. Now anthropology in basic terms is something that tries to answer one fundamental question- what it is to be human? Of course the answers to that question is infinite and ever changing as we live in an ever changing world made up of many different ways of thinking about that world. But in order to try and think about what it is to be human is you can think about various ways that anthropology may approach the relationship between humans and animals. What’s the difference between humans and animals, being one of the big questions that have concerned philosophy and anthropology throughout the ages.
Genetic variations are the differences in individuals within a population. Variations are the visual differences everyone has caused by random changes in our DNA. Mutations are the most primary source of variation that happens in every type of life form. Mutations are very common and happen all the time. They are mistakes that occur during the process of replicating the DNA. Mutations include skipping, inserting, deleting, duplicating, copying incorrectly, or moving huge chunks of DNA. Mutations that occur during fertilization are passed down to the offspring. They occur at random and can change the function of a protein. A mutation that has happened to humans is that we have different colored skin. We came from our ancient African ancestors, as they migrated humans evolved. Natured helped us mutate and get lighter skin to help us survive with the amount of light there was in our environment. There are many disadvantages and advantages to genetic mutations.

For decades, humans have wanted to see more of the planet we call Mars, the red planet. There have been many successful attempts to get a glimpse of the interesting planet, and scientists are still working on a better solution to get there. The first rover to explore Mars was "Mariner 4", which arrived on November 28, 1964. It was a spacecraft designated to orbit the planet of Mars, but not to land. It lasted for about 8 months, and was not able to survive much longer than that due to the conditions on and around Mars. Rovers before have captured images and samples, but this may not be enough to give us the full image of what is really happening on the diverse planet. What is the planet of Mars really like? Is it possible for us to find out using simple technology?

There are numerous reasons as to why Mars is not ideal for human beings. First of all, the temperatures on Mars are immensely low. The surface temperatures recorded close to the equator range from -94℉ to -148℉; however temperatures at the poles can reach upto -284℉(Walker). Compare this to the lowest temperature EVER recorded on earth, which is -128.6℉. Moreover, the atmosphere of Mars is very thin.
The atmosphere is about one hundred times thinner than Earth’s and is unable to retain heat. The atmosphere is made up of about ninety-five percent carbon dioxide, two percent Nitrogen and less than one percent oxygen, with some other stuff in between. This of course causes problems for colonizers since they will be unable to survive unaided in these rough conditions. However, minor amounts of water, nitrogen oxide and hydrogen-deuterium-oxygen is exactly what has led man to speculate a colony on Mars will thrive both economically and socially. Nonetheless, we must still keep in mind that the Mars atmosphere is thick enough to produce weather, such as winds.
Mars or Moon The basic fact that describes human evolution is the continuous expansion of the human population and civilization. Over the decades, humanity has expanded outward finding new places to settle, live and explore. The evolutionary adaption to such a wide range of environments as inhabited by the human species is the force that has shaped both the human biological and cultural evolution (Smith & Davies, 2012). With the continuous expansion, humanity will have to align itself with the nature of the universe which is change, and Smith and Davies (2012) affirm that colonization of space will be nothing less than an insurance policy for the survival of human species and survival.
