Mu·sic (ˈmyo͞ozik): vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. This definition of music, provided by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is relevant to millions of people around the world; one of those people being me. For me, music is not just simply art or sound, it is a form of expression of self being as well as an assumation of my personality as a whole. Music rules not only the way I feel and express feelings, but also associates with the actions I carry out day to day. Wheather I need inspiration to carry out my day, whether feeling homesick and need a coping mechanism, or wheater I just want to sit back and relax by myself, music is always there. being said, there is something to say about the way that I organize my music. That’s where the role of genre comes in. Genre is more practically decribed as a category of artistic composition characterized by similarities in subject matter. For me, Genre is a tool.
A tool that organizes my emotions, actions, and personality in the form of music. Genre is used every day in my life to organize my moods through the process of listening for music. To express this, I will take you through my daily interaction with music and how it effects me. I wake up every day to a blaring alarm, reluctant to move even an inch from my sleeping position. When I grab my phone to turn off the alarm, I unlock it and go to my music. I then immediately open a playlist titled “Ready”. The “Ready” playlist consists entirely of modern hip-hop that, after I listen to for a few minutes, completely changes my mood to ready to conquer the day. I get dressed and pop in headphones and continue to listen throughout my school day. Once I finish classes and return back to my dorm, the headphones come out and I connect to my Bluetooth speaker while simultaneously switching my playlist from “Ready” to “Study”. The “Study” playlist is entirely comprised of low-fi hip-hop and jazz instrumentals. Once this playlist comes on, my head is cleared and I exert laser focus on my studies. Once homework is done, I then turn to the “Chill” playlist consisting of Indie artists like Mac …show more content…
Demarco. On occasion, I’ll get homesick and turn to the “Miss” playlist.
This is made of songs that I grew up on that my Mom played when I was a kid. This features rock, soft rock, and rock pop artists like Billie Joel, Elton John and the Beatles. This playlist lets me get out all my sadness and reminisce on old memories I had back home and with my family. At the end of the day, I turn on my “Doom” playlist. This is a special one. It consists of the entire discography of my favorite artist of all time: MF Doom. The “Doom” playlist includes dozens of hip-hop instrumentals and my favorite album of all time, Madvillainy. Madvillainly is a social critique on humanities lack of empathy and the dichotomy between good and evil. This playlist is significant to me because it initiated my love for music entirely. With its deep concepts and ideas, this playlist allows me to reflect on my day and remember my roots of music appreciation. I then fall asleep, and repeat the cycle day after
day. In all, genre to me is the organization of music into separate playlists that dictate my emotions, mood and actions on a daily basis. I don’t see music’s importance and impact in my life as something that will fade away anytime soon. I look forward to learning more about the function and application of music in history and society in this class, as well as being more informed about other genres and eras of music throughout the past few decades. As new music emerges, I will continually add songs to the variety of different playlists that guide both my day and myself as a person.
Oxford’s dictionary defines music: as vocal or instrumental sounds or both, combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. Music, as a form of expression and communication, comes in many forms and styles: classical, folk, country, rock, and electronic
If one were to look back into the world’s history, one would find that an important and consistent element is the world of music. Music has presented itself in various forms throughout its spread and through our identification of its magical realm, people have been fortunate enough to come across a means of relation. ...ant in sharing something extraordinary that unites us all. Music is truly an indication of success for the expression of an emotion is a redemptive experience that not only one person feels but others as well. Traditional music as well as international music is a form of artwork that colors our world.
Since the earliest days of human civilization music has been a key tool for communication of stories which carried emotions through them. If we think back to our youngest years of life music has surrounded us whether it was from our parents singing us lullabies or from some sort of toy that played music we can say that musical melodies have helped shape or lives one way or another. Once we start growing up and figuring out who we are our musical preferences change; some people like classical and some like punk. We start to befriend people who like the same music as us and eventually we may attend a musical event. Our lives somewhat revolve around the music that we listen to.
Bruno Mars’ album, “Unorthodox Jukebox”, is the most influential album of this century. INFLUENCED BY: Mars’ whole career and music lifestyle was influenced by. The Police, Rolling Stones, Prince, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Keith Sweat, Led Zeppelin, and Hawaiian-born, ukulele-playing, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole (IZ). When the human brain is used for ten minutes straight, it generates enough electricity to power the Sears Tower for forty-eight seconds. That’s more than a hundred floors of electricity powered.
Music is an art that combines vocal and instrumental sounds to produce something that gives different emotions to the listeners. Music can make a person sad, happy and romantic at the same time. Playing an instrument is also a music, not only singing a song. I had this misunderstanding that music has the song and the musical instrument included in it. But I realized that musical instruments have more importance and beauty than a song including in it.
According to dictionary.com, music is “an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, and color.” Music is the product of sound waves coming from anything making a melodic tone. There are different genera’s of music, ranging from rock to pop to classical. Each person likes different genera’s of music.
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
Music is far more than the sum of its parts. It can be thought of in a highly mathematical sense, which leaves one in awe of the seemingly endless combinations of rhythm, tone and intervals that a good musician can produce. Admiring music in this way is a lot like admiring an intricate snowflake, or shapes in the clouds; it's beautiful, but at the same time very scientific, based on patterns. All of the aforementioned qualities of music have one thing in common: they can be defined with numeric, specific values. However, the greatest aspect of music lies elsewhere, and cannot be specifically defined with words. It is the reaction that each individual has when they are confronted with their favorite (or least favorite) kind of music.
What does music mean to you? Music is something that has been around for many years. It started out as just some drums and a few instruments, but has changed a lot over time. The dictionary defines music as “an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.” When I think of music I think of it has a story combined with instrumental sounds. Over the years, it has changed so much, some for the good and the bad. There are many different types of music and different emotions it will bring.
Every day people are exposed to music in one form or another, whether they wish to hear it or not. For example, every time someone walks into a store, goes to eat dinner or something as simple as walking into an elevator. Music is always playing in the background. It can actually be somewhat hard to get away from it. Yet the music does not seem to irritate people, if anything we can use the subject of music to learn about someone’s personality. The question, “What kinds of music do you like?” is a universal question. It allows us to explore another person’s musical interest, which would then lead to the basis of a friendship.
Bennie’s perception of music, as for me, was not usual as everyone’s. He felt every note, the sound was getting inside his body, to the heart. Listening to one of the songs, Bennie closed his eyes and “every part of him alive with the palpable act of listening. ‘He’s absolutely pure…untouched” (Egan, 313). It elevates us and makes more sophisticated; helps at work, school, and daily activities, making it more enjoyable, interesting, and meaningful. Researchers by British scientists have shown how music can affect the mood of people. For example, it turned out that The Drugs Do Not Work by Verve immerse a person in a melancholic condition, while LDN by Lily Allen causes shivers of happiness, and Song 2 by Blur evokes an uncontrollable desire to
Music has various meanings for me. The meaning of music changes depending on who I am listening to, and when I am listening to the music. For example, last night I was watching Black Thought perform his amazing 10 minute freestyle rap. I decided to listen to it because I wanted to hear his flows, and remind myself of how brilliant of a wordsmith he was during that performance. His freestyle put me in awe of how intelligent, crafty, and talented he is as a musician.
There are many ways in which music affects and surrounds us. It is our creative outlet, our passion, our distraction, our night out or simply our moment of relaxation. Throughout the centuries, music has played a vital role in our lives. We as a society immerse ourselves in music day to day. From grandiose social gatherings and dances in the Middle Ages, to live concerts and monumental performances to date. Music is in films to elicit emotion and in television commercials to make us consumers of the newest technology. More importantly, it is in our preferred listening device because we choose the particular songs and artists we like and want to hear. The Marriam-Webster dictionary defines music as “sounds that are sung by voices or played on musical instruments; the art or skill of creating or performing music.” But why do we choose attend the Bruce Springsteen concert at Wrigley Field and not the Chicago Symphony Orchestra? What makes us enjoy one type of music or artist and not another? Whether you make music or simply enjoy it by listening to it, we are all connected to music in a variety of ways.
Music, a form of art, made up of unique and special sounds containing elements of pitch and rhythm can powerfully soothe one’s soul. Firstly, there are different types of music, and each has its own features. These sounds and features are what I admire in music because to me it creates a new form of communication to one’s consciousness. It stimulates our mind and gives it a sense of harmony and peace through the hardships that life poses for us. As a kid, I would always listen to music from any genre, deciding which genre would complement me the most as I grew older. In middle school, I remember going on the computer and finding a website/program where I could make my own beats. From that day on, I spent countless of hours each day making sure the tune sounded proper and pleasurable for my ears. At first, it wasn’t good, but eventua...
