What’s Your Sign?
Use your knowledge about the four signs of a chemical reaction to identify the chemical change in the following examples. What sign is observed and what is the new substance formed? Choose one of the examples below. The sign(s) of a chemical reaction should be identified along with the new substances formed if possible. Use the Internet to do further research if necessary. A water purification plant needs to remove an excess of lead and mercury from a stream of water before it can be sent into the city reservoir. The addition of ground up clam and mussel shells (calcium carbonate) to the water results in a black solid (lead or mercury carbonate) being formed in the water that can be filtered and removed from the liquid.
The objective of this experiment will be to combine various substances, liquids and metals, and to observe their behavior when they are combined. The types of reactions observed shall determine the nature of these reactions: physical or chemical.
The purpose of the experiment was to find which balanced chemical equation best represents the thermal decomposition of sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda (NaHCO3). The lab presented us with four possible equations but there was no way of determining which equation was correct unless we performed an experiment and using the law of conservation of mass which says that mass is conserved during a chemical reaction, the law of definite proportions which says that a compound is always made of the same proportion of elements by mass, and stoichiometry to properly balance the equation.
“Chemistry is the study of substances; their properties, structure, and the changes they undergo” (Lower). Chemistry is the study of all the stuff in the world and especially how they change. My experiment deals mostly with the change of substances. Some of the concepts involved in my experiment are Oxidation/Reduction (redox) reactions, electrolysis, pH, and electrical currents. A redox reaction is a reaction in which there is a transfer of electrons from one substance to another. There are two paired parts to a redox reaction: the oxidation and the reduction. The oxidation is the loss of electrons while the reduction is the gain of electrons. They always occur together because one substance has to receive the electrons that another substance is giving up. Electrolysis is a process where electricity goes through a liquid, which causes chemical reactions to occur. pH is the measure of how acidic or basic something is. More exactly, it is, at least indirectly, the number of hydrogen ions there are in a liter of solution. A hydrogen ion is a hydroge...
If there is one great constellation, it is the constellation of Gemini. As a Zodiac Constellation, it is only visible during parts of the year. It's two brightest stars, Castor and Pollux, give it the name of the Twins. Anyone born in the end of May until late June is said to have two faces: one of Pollux's and one of Castor's.
The purpose of this lab was to to cycle solid copper through a series of chemical forms and return it to its original form. A specific quantity of copper undergo many types of reactions and went through its whole cycle, then returned to its solid copper to be weighted. We observed 5 chemical reactions involving copper which are: Redox reaction (which includes all chemical reactions in which atoms have their oxidation state changed), double displacement reaction, precipitation reaction, decomposition reaction, and single displacement reaction.
Unit 7: Chemical Reactions: Students will understand the basic concepts of reactions, bonding, the “mole” and how this relates to the law of conversion of matter.
== = == Hypothesis for the experiment: After I conduct this experiment, I expect and suppose I can recognize and physical changes, identifying the difference these two kinds of changes. Also, I will be able to know some physical and chemical properties of copper (II) sulfate, water, iron, sodium carbonate, hydrochloric acid and magnesium and identify if it is a chemical change or physical change in each part of the experiment.
The basic astrological assumptions are not hard to grasp. For if astronomy is the study of the movements of the heavenly bodies, then astrology is the study of the effects of those movements. The astronomers of the ancient world assumed a division of the universe whereby the superior, immutable bodies of the celestial worlds ruled over the terrestrial or sublunary sphere, where all was mortality and change. It was assumed that the stars had special qualities and influences which were transmitted downwards upon the passive earth, and which varied in their effect, according to the changing relationship of the heavenly bodies to each other. They were led to postulate a single system in which the seven moving stars or planet shifted their position in relation to the earth and each other, against a fixed backcloth of the twelve signs of the zodiac.
Reaction 1: CaCO3(s) + 2HCl(aq) CaCl2(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O(l). GRAPH 14 in both cases represents the mean of the data. Using the equation for enthalpy change: H = mcT. Where: m = Mass of liquid to which heat is transferred to (g). c =
My belief is that the nature of our behavior is based on astronomy; hence the reason that people who share the same zodiac sign have very similar characteristics, and sometimes a combination of people with certain zodiac signs cannot get along or are very compatible. Sometimes I can tell from a person’s sign because of their behavior, and likes and dislikes. Learning more about astrology and the zodiac signs helps us to understand people and their actions. Many argue that it is coincidence, but the odds are too high to be that.
Cl- (aq) + Na+ (aq) + OH- (aq) Na+ (aq) + Cl- (aq) +H+ + OH- [IMAGE]The above is an example of a neutralization reaction, involving an acid and an alkali. The result is a salt and water. In every neutralization reaction, the metal in the alkali (Na+ here) takes the place oh the hydrogen in the acid, forming a metal compound called a salt.

Ever wondered what it is that compels people toward a certain career, or why they excel at certain things they might enjoy? Certain careers that an individual might enjoy and excel at often depends on their personality type, as well as their interests and income requirements. My personality type is labeled as INTJ- Architect- and it fits me completely, as the career I am looking for is an Architect (16Personalities). Although the time it would take before I could follow up on the career to be an architect is about half a decade, it would meet my income requirements as well as my interests in building/constructing and strategic planning. It also would be something I would thoroughly enjoy- which in turn will affect my performance positively.
