What’s your opinion on NASCAR? Do you believe it’s a sport? People have many different viewpoints on whether NASCAR is a sport. In America, 85% of people do believe that NASCAR is a sport, but the remaining 15% of people believe that it is not a sport. The late Ernest Hemingway once said, “There are only three sports: Bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering: all the rest are merely games.” I believe that there is a lot of truth to this statement, considering all three take serious courage, endurance, and strategy to accomplish. The definition of a sport is this; an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. So there is hardly any argument on whether …show more content…
A NASCAR driver during a race sweats around nine pounds of their body weight out on average. In 2009 NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson won the male athlete of the year award over Albert Pujols, Tiger Woods, and Kobe Bryant. All NASCAR drivers workout on a regular basis to keep up with their physically and mentally straining job. Johnson works out every day doing a mixture of things such as doing pull-ups with an extra 100 pounds strapped to him and running up to six miles a day. This shows how good of shape these NASCAR drivers are really in considering “athletes” of other sports such as baseball players like, David Ortiz or Prince Fielder. Many others argue that NASCAR requires no skill. To be a successful NASCAR driver it takes a huge amount of skill. Not just anyone can go out and drive a car 200 miles per hour, while inches from another car, lap after lap for up to five hours. It takes years of training to get to the level of professional NASCAR drivers. All NASCAR drivers have to be on the edge of their seat at all times. Any little jerk or a slight movement of the wheel can send the driver hurling into the wall or even another car. It takes a serious amount of focus and skill to be able to endure the conditions that drivers do for hours on
People who have participated in racing for the past century, have never been universally accepted as athletes. The drivers, especially those in the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) prove this misconception as incorrect with their intense training and stellar performances. Drivers on social media, assert that they are athletes, contradicting other sports stars who insist that they are not. The drivers in NASCAR and all forms of racing deserve to be given the respect of their fellow athletes in other sports. NASCAR drivers are seasoned athletes because of their training and tough race conditions that they encounter every week on the track.
Olympics fans are missing the fastest paced sport in the world. I think NASCAR should be one of the sports in the olympics. The following will help me get my point across: competitiveness, popularity, and that it is fast-paced.
In closing is a photo of my personal experience with the sport of Motocross. One should never doubt that motocross is a sport. The above references should help one to understand exactly what it takes to make a sport a sport and that motocross is a sport. Motocross not only is a sport for the participant but also a sport for the fans in the stands
eople riding bulls, wrestling steers, and roping calves all in one sport? What kind of game is this? It’s called rodeo. Rodeo consists of all different kinds of events to choose from, and can be competed in all over the United States, even Canada. These events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, and for the girls, barrel racing. This sport is becoming very unique in today’s world. It opens a window to the past, but still provides an exciting atmosphere.
When Jack Roush decides to have one less race team on the track, he does so not because he doesn’t like the team that is racing, but because fielding a race team is expensive. Mr. Roush has a lot of money, but he is limited to the number of teams he can put on the track. Race fans make choices too. We choose which drivers we will support, which manufacturers we will back, what races to attend in person, and how many races to watch on television. All of these choices are made because we don’t have the time, money or opportunity to watch every race, travel to every track, or back every driver. Therefore, we have to choose.
A lot of people these days say that horse riding is not a sport. I beg to differ, often, the only exposure they've had to equestrianism are professionals is on television, whose riding is so skilled they make it look effortless but for a typical rider its very hard. The reason why horse riding is a sport because you don’t just sit there, and you can compete in shows.
From my personal experience I have known a lot of individuals that don’t believe supercross is a sport because it doesn’t require any physical effort or any particular natural skills; it is a big argument if they don’t know anything about it. Most of the individuals claim that the bike does all the work and the only thing you have to do is hold on to the handlebars. On top of th...
When the word “sport” is mentioned, it reminds people, athletes of popular activities such as: basketball, football, and etc. However, there are still controversy about activities that whether or not they’re considered a sport. Marching band would be a good example. Until now, the controversy about this topic is still rising as new generations of people are born. Marching band is a sport due to the fact that it requires physical exertion, commitments, and the amount of competitions that band members attend to.
...ture a risk-taking species. In ancient times we took risks just to eat. Later we took huge risks by setting out in little wooden ships to explore the earth's surface. We continued as we sought to fly, travel faster than the speed of sound and to head off into space. We rely on increasingly more complex equipment and constantly strive to design and manufacture faster and even more elaborate devices. It goes without saying that every effort is made to ensure our "safety"; to keep us from harm or danger. Every time you slide behind the wheel of your vehicle you are taking a risk. Driving is the riskiest activity in our lives. It is an inherently "unsafe" environment. The most perfect vehicles on the best designed highways on beautiful sunny days driven by fallible human beings crash into each other. The only way to drive "safely" (as we are all admonished to do!) is to learn more about the process. Learn more about your vehicle and how to maintain it; learn how to use your eyes to look far down the road; learn to spot problems before they happen; and also learn to deal with emergency situations. In most cases it's the human element that fails. After all, safe is only as safe does.
A lot of people do not understand the hard work and time it takes to train a horse, as well as compete in competitions or shows. I personally know a lot about horseback riding because I grew up riding horses. It really makes me mad when someone comments “that is not a sport”. Well, yes they can state their opinion but I don’t have to agree with them and vice versa.
Talladega wants them to be part of active participation and to be connected to the physical environment as well as being immersed. The sponsoring for Nascar was a little confusing for me but it is different from other sports. Just like other Sports though the sponsors pay tons of money to show the world who they

With newer riders joining the seasoned veterans on the glorious open road, every day, the dangers of the road increase as well. Cars are fine machines; great modes of transportation. They are also tanks and can roll over a body, head, or leg with ease. The danger that riders face today is even more so. With cars that are easier to drive, drivers have become less aware; more comatose.
There’s nothing that irritates me more than when someone tells me that riding horses is not a sport. I can’t express how heated I get when someone tells me that the horse does all the work, or that humans only influence horses to do things. Horses have minds of their own. You can’t just tell a horse to jump and expect it to do so, you have to sit in the saddle and lead it to complete the task. A sport is defined as an athletic activity requiring skill or physical strength, often of a competitive nature.
Sport, according to the oxford dictionary, can be defined as an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Sport may seem like just another, simple five letter word yet it has the power and aptitude to teach humanity such fundamental and intellectual life lessons. In my speech I will explore these vital lessons, such as failure, success, perseverance, teamwork, tolerance, responsibility and discipline by exhibiting how each lesson can be learnt and utilised.
