Salvation is the elimination of danger, evil, and suffering through the process of redemption, deliverance, or liberation (Livingston 311). Correspondingly, salvation is the fundamental goal of religion, as it is the process of riding evil and disorder through definitive transformation (Livingston 312). Nevertheless, in religion, salvation can be found in the present life or after life. Therefore, salvation plays a large role in religion in regards to both the whole community and the individual.
First of all, salvation plays a monumental role in religion in regards to the whole community. For example, various religions believe that communal salvation can be attained through the introduction of a holy occurrence or Golden age. To illustrate, ancient Israelites believed in the “day of Yahweh”, which is a “period of unbroken prosperity and glory inaugurated by Yahweh’s victorious overthrow of Israel’s enemies” (Livingston, 317). Today, these manifestations are depicted through resurrection, Heaven and Hell, and immortal life (Livingston 320). Correspondingly, these beliefs stimulate communal morality and order through the need of salvation. To illustrate, the terrible images of Hell and the pleasant imagery of Heaven have initiated societal order as individuals follow commandments depicted by the divine in order to obtain salvation. Furthermore, Livingston states, “resurrection was conceived as the establishment of the righteous in a kingdom on earth” (324). Likewise, in regards to immortal life, the community typically ascertains positive characteristics in order to obtain salvation in their next life.
Second, salvation in religion plays a large role for the individual. Salvation is the ultimate way to reduce pain, anxiety, guilt...

...lvation is achieved differs significantly among the various Christian groups, for example, the Catholic Church believes that salvation is attained through good works such as acts of charity and almsgiving, while the Anglican Church as a deeper focus on personal faith and acceptance of Jesus as the Savior. The concept of salvation is a driving factor in the formation of ethics and morals in the Christian faith, as individual desire to receive eternal life in heaven underpins many actions and choices that they make, such as the choice to attend church or participate in aiding the poor and helpless.
With this one can see why people practice religions in general, because religion gives a sense of security through stressing that faith is the key to getting through suffering. Faith in the everlasting soul, faith in God, or faith that one will end in the right place. Faith is the common factor among religions, and suffering brings out the faith in people.
In Langston Hughes’ essay “Salvation,” Langston talks about the first time he is going to be saved from sin. Langston is a young boy around the age of thirteen. He is going to church to see Jesus for the first time. In which case, he truly experiences religion for the first time in his life. Throughout this essay Langston uses many narrative techniques such as, imagery, metaphors, and irony to explain his interpretation of that one night when he did not see Jesus.
The idea that religion can primarily be seen as a means of comfort in a world of suffering is not a new one. Religion reconcile the oppressed to their uncomfortable role sin this life by dignify in their suffering and promising spiritual world to come. But apart from the Psychological problem, the existence of suffering poses a cognitive problem, albeit in practice the two are often closely related or even confused with each other. Religion does not only have to provide the promise of some kind of escape or salvation from suffering brutal so some kind of moral vindication of its distribution in this world. Our society is driven by the need for constant clarification, transparency, and readily available answers at our fingertips. It is no surprise than that although we live in a world dominated by technology and fast web browsing there are still questions we can’t find an answer to. Regardless of how one posit the question of evil, “Where is God now”, “Why is there evil if God is almighty”, or “Why would God abandon those in need”, the answers has always been the same, “No one knows for sure”.
The third religious group to be discussed will be Heaven’s Gate, Heaven’s Gate was a religious group in which it’s members killed themselves in March 1997, (Davis, 2000). This act was seen by the group as a way for them to reach salvation, which they called, “… the literal heavens,” (Davis, 2000, pg 241). The act of killing oneself as a way to reach salvation is something that is not seen in mainstream religions, in fact death is viewed as something to be feared by the majority of society. But wanting to reach salvation is something that is seen in most religions, and it is also something that is seen in most fundamental religions such as Gloriavale. But each religion seems to have their own way in which they believe they will reach salvation.
The word describes that the way to salvation is through belief, or faith, in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Those who believe this and repent of their sins are redeemed. They will be accepted into heaven through Jesus. However, this proves to be a dangerous perspective on salvation. This statement can easily be misinterpreted. Some may think that as long as they believe in Jesus they have an ultimate “get out of jail free” card without a change in behavior. Stating that Jesus is Lord must be accompanied by a lifestyle that reflects his time on
Immortality, redemption, emancipation and deliverance have always been the highest spiritual aims of mankind as well as his innermost aspirations. Throughout the ages his spirit has relentlessly soared towards these eternal peaks that lie beyond the comprehension of ordinary human understanding. He has always tried to decipher the larger meaning and purpose of human existence and of its link with the entire creation. Man’s quest has been to identify the powers governing life and how his life fits into the greater scheme of things whereby this universe exists. Where science and rationality failed to find any Cosmic significance in human existence, the spiritual approach not only found a meaning but also connected it
One of the most difficult doctrines for the human mind to comprehend is God’s undeserving grace extended to all of mankind. While no man is worthy of God’s grace because of sin, He chooses to extend this free gift simply because it pleases him (Metzger, 2002). Ephesians 2:8, clearly defines grace as a free gift that cannot be earned, Jesus did the earning on the cross and is consequently all sufficient for our salvation. Another dynamic to God’s free gift is faith, it is by faith that we are born into grace that allows us to boast in His glory (Romans 5:2), not our works. One thing for certain, the theme of salvation, like God, remains the same throughout the Bible. Abraham (Abram) was justified by faith simply because he believed on the Lord (Genesis 15:6) who credited it to his righteousness. King David, in Psalm 32 describes God’s grace and justification being with the one whose transgressions were forgiven and whose sins were covered, blessed is the man whom the Lord counts no inequity. Even Noah was saved by faith and God’s grace (Genesis 6:8).
Studies show that religion can have many positive impacts on some one’s life. Religion gives people things such as a meaning, a purpose, and hope (Raman). New religious movements help to brighten people’s lives that still want the positive benefit of religion, but cannot find themselves believing older religions. It also helps to bring communities together, and creates support groups that help the needy. New religions provide an escape for people who feel the need to belong to something in their life. By practicing the religion, and following its rituals, one can help them find calmness and stability
The Doctrine of Salvation (Soteriology). God provides us with everything we need; we see this in Genesis where he provided Adam with everything he needed. Jesus became a man by reincarnation; a verse to support this is John 1:14 “

The ultimate salvation is nirvana. Some schools believe that enlightened beings are reborn in pure lands, immeasurable paradises where they exist with Buddhas and bodhisattvas. The bodhisattva is possibly the most important defining characteristic of the Mahayana. Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who continue in the world to help those lives still suffering. It is believed that the cultivation of prajna or wisdom over meditation, allows a person get rid of the ignorance that makes them suffer. In the Mahayana tradition, there is no sacred time. The bodhisatt...
In Romans 10:9 Paul says, “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Salvation is the promise of God for those who receive Christ. Again, in Romans 5:1 Paul speaks of a peace that comes with assurance when he says, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
What does it mean to be saved? To be saved is the conscious acceptance of Christ as the propitiation for your sins. Because Jesus, who was holy and without sin took the punishment of death for our sins, we can ask him to take away and forgive our sins. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins” (KJV, 1 John 1:9). Jesus died for everyone’s sins; however, not everyone chooses to accept His gift of “eternal life” (KJV, John 3:16). I have accepted this amazing and gracious gift.
