What is Art1
Art can mean many different things to many different people and was one of the earliest ways in which man has expressed him or herself to others, whether it was through cave drawings or hieroglyphics. It does not begin or end with just drawing or painting, items typically considered art, or the many other recognized facets of art including architecture, drama, literature, sculpting, and music. The writing of Beowulf, one of the earliest known written prose, or the Greek plays which have influenced drama since their inception, are considered some of the greatest forms of art in history. Art can allow us pleasure just simply through the process of creating. Art can allow us to express ourselves to give us better insight into our own feelings. Art can, in contrast, allow us to stir emotions from within the viewer, occasionally leaving the viewer with an awakened or refreshed outlook. Some may only consider a work as art if it requires a particular skill from the artist, however, art can actually be viewed as simply another form of communication. No matter what form this expression takes, whether dance, poetry or the painted canvas, people have reasons for pursuing the need to create.
Dance, as a form of art, allows the person or persons to express themselves through the movements of their bodies, whether the dancing takes place on a stage, in a theater, or on the floor of a dance club. This non-verbal art form can allow a dancer to express stories and s...

Institutional racism is defined in the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) as “the manifestation of racism in social systems and institutions. It is the social, economic, educational, and political forces or policies that operate to foster discriminatory outcomes. It is the combination of policies, practices, or procedures embedded in bureaucratic structure that systematically lead to unequal outcomes for groups of people”(2007). In other words, policy and practices intentionally or unintentionally favor one group or put a racial group at a
Literature has found that low levels of vitamin B12 is associated with accelerated cognitive decline and may contribute to Alzheimer's disease.
Different from racism by individuals, it reflects the disparities regarding criminal justice, employment, housing and education. Individual racism consists of overt acts, it can usually involve things such as violence, death and destruction of property. This form of racism is obvious and can be pointed out instantly. Institutional racism, on the other hand, is less overt and very subtle. Institutional racism usually occurs within respected forces in society, thus, cannot be confronted in an obvious manner. An example of individual racism would be if a black family moved into a white neighborhood and someone damages their property. An example of institutionalized racism would when black families are forced to live in urban cities and are not allowed to buy homes in white neighborhoods per say. Educational institutions are also an example of institutionalized racism because in many private colleges, diversity was not present, the emphasis on diversity in colleges has only recently become a phenomenon. “It is harder for a white college student to understand the need that minority students feel to band together against discrimination” (Waters, 1996, 236). Waters points out that often times in colleges where diversity is not apparent, the minority students—Asian, African Americans, Jewish, Arabian and Latino—bind together no matter their racial
...t one has it. Many scientists hypothesize that there is an inflammatory response in the brain when there is an extensive B-42 amassing. To slow or stop this, scientists theorize that the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, could delay the swelling in the brain. Also, as scientists have known that taking a multi-vitamin tablet each day is good for you, there has been recent research demonstrating that the use of antioxidants may protect neurons, not just the immune system and keeping the body healthy by providing vitamins and minerals. These special supplements protect the neurons from the effects of the accruing B-Amyloid that would likely cause the plaque that causes AD.
The research into the effect Vitamin A has on Alzheimer’s disease needs to be furthered. One avenue to further it would be examining retinoic acids in vivo. This would allow the retinoid mechanisms of action and their receptors in Alzheimer’s disease to be better understood. Another method to further research would be to study the affect retinoic acid has on amyloid β in Alzheimer’s disease using different techniques, such as histopathological observation.

Art is one of the many ways a person can express themselves. It is used to tell a story, connect on an emotional level, capture a special moment, and more. It can also come in different ways, such as, paintings, photos, sketches, music, and in literature and writing. Art allows the artist to tell others who they are or what they may be going through on a deeper level. It enables them to tell a story that expresses their emotions and shows their experiences.

This article discusses Alzheimer’s disease, and the authors write about research on the effectiveness of Icariin (ICA), a type of flavonoid, in treating the disease. Sheng et al. (2017) write that Alzheimer’s is a disease marked by “gradual memory loss and deterioration of higher cognitive function” (p. 1). It is the main cause of dementia in people around the world. The flavonoid known as Icariin (ICA), which is found in the Chinese herb, “Epimedium brevicornum,” is known to have medicinal properties, and these researchers tested to see if the compound could reduce the effects of Alzheimer’s in lab rats. A study was conducted in which the brains of 60 rats were initially injected with amyloid beta compound to simulate the effects of the Alzheimer’s disease (2017, p. 2). Patients with Alzheimer’s develop these plaques in their brains, so the injection is given to induce Alzheimer’s symptoms in the rats. The rats were then divided into 5 groups: a control group, a group receiving an injection of saline solution, a group receiving saline with 30 mg/kg of ICA, one receiving 60mg/kg of ICA, and one group receiving 120 mg/kg of ICA (2017, p. 3). The rats were then tested in a Morris water maze (MWM) to see if there were any differences between the completion times and other markers of the test
There are many benefits that come with promoting diversity, such as the culmination of unique ideas and creativity, and in the workplace, it is almost a requirement for success. However, with the coming together of such differences, social categorization and the many characteristics that come with it are bound to reflect itself in various ways. One of those ways is through racism. Racism comes in many forms such as, dominative racism, aversive racism, institutional racism, and juridical racism. This paper will focus on aversive racism, a more subtle type of racism that also contributes to inequality, but in a less obvious fashion. It will also discuss the ways in which it is expressed, and why it is difficult to address it.
Art can be defined in many ways by an individual. One can say that any creative output by a person is considered art. Others contend that art must conform to a societal standard and the basis of the creation should be understood by most intellectual people. For example, some contend that computer-generated images, such as fractals, are not art due to the large role played by a computer. E.O. Wilson states “the exclusive role of the arts is to intensify aesthetic and emotional response. Works of art communicate feeling directly from mind to mind, with no intent to explain why the impact occurs” (218). A simple definition may be that art is the physical expression of the ideals formed by the mind.
Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is everywhere, we experience it on a daily basis. From the houses we live in (architecture) to the movies we see (theatre) to the books that we read (literature). Even in ancient culture art has played a crucial role. In prehistoric times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In biblical times paintings recorded the life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded history. Most art is created for a specific reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all people.
