A Christian College education means a great deal of importance to me, due to the decline of morals in today society, our world needs Christian leaders to step up and share their knowledge of Christ with others. Growing up in a world where ignorance is praised and promoted, by things such as social media, our peers and unfortunately by today’s world leaders, which many of us look up to. There aren’t really many positive things in society anymore that gives us a motivational force to make us a better person, to have to the ambition and will to do good things in the name of the Lord. A major part of this is due to the generation loss of motivation, hope, and the loss of belief in something far greater then themselves. In today’s world, people take Christianity and the lord’s teaching as a joke. Many would rather listen to a scientist philosophy of how the world was created, rather than actually learning about the power of Christ and his promise he made for everyone life who choose to follow him. That’s why I believe organizations such as Baptist Bible College, play a huge role on keeping our future generation of brilliant leaders on the right track towards the real meaning of what life is truly about.
Christian colleges are an essential part of today’s education system, because not only do they produce great students academically but they also produce, the next generation of Christian leader. Innocence people are being persecuted daily for doing the right thing, on the other hand people are being applauded for committing the very harsh crimes. We lack Christianity in our society and its getting out of hand. I believe that I believe that receiving a Christian Education will equip me with the necessary tools to be a great community leader by an education that is challenging and by learning the word of God. I not only want to better myself by receiving a Christian Education, but I also want to inspire people to do better and move closer to Christ by giving their life up to him. I want to go out and be a great, admirable Christian leader, who children and even adults can look up to. Therefore, there is many great moral values you can learn and attain from a Christian Education, that makes it very meaningful.
The word “Christian in the university’s name means a group of people that believe in one God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Accepting of any Christian denomination and teaches the word of God, as it is written in the bible. “So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.” (Acts 11:26, New International Version). Leading and guiding others to acquire the wisdom that God wants us to have. Identified as evangelical, meaning “relating to, or being in agreement with the Christian gospel, as it is presented in the four gospels.
Chapter one introduces the book as an effort to explain the purpose behind going to a liberal arts university and taking general education classes. Ostrander, the author, states that understanding the concept behind a worldview is key to thriving in a Christian college, explaining that a worldview is not just a set of ideas, but a way of life, and everyone has one. He expounds on this idea with his next point, that all education comes with a worldview. Each professor you have, whether religious or secular, will bring his or her background and history with him into his teaching. In a Christian College, though, there is a single concept that unifies and connects everyone's worldviews, but this worldview is constantly changing and open ended,

Christian education is the training of special agents of the kingdom of God and the consummation of creation.” (pg.139) I found it fascinating that Plantinga describes ‘us’ within the Christian education system are called or elected to help God regain and restore His earth here with Christ. We have to remember, “no matter what our primary occupation we cannot let it become a preoccupation.” Plantinga helped me to reflect on my current life, my current job, and my current Christian education. I found that when we let these other aspects of our lives, whether it be bills, work or exams, we often allow reality to fade into the background. Or perhaps we could look at it this way: Our lives get so busy and hectic that we tend to put God on the back burner. Christian education whether in a university or biblical studies at home will give us guidance through our hectic lives, renewing our minds and keep us in close connection with our Creator and the rest of His Creation. Plantinga sums up Christian education as “for the kingdom of God. It equips us to be agents of the kingdom, models of the kingdom in our own lives and communities, witnesses to the kingdom wherever we go in the world.” (pg.143) When we ‘put on the full armor of God’ we not only protect ourselves from this fallen world but we are also able to project God’s glory to all those who we encounter.
In "Becoming a Real Person", Davis Brooks weighs on the notion of the purpose of college. He claims that there are three ways that college aims to lead us. The cognitive objective teaches us knowledge and how to correctly use it, the moral role helps us build a unique individual self, and the commercial role leads us toward a future career. These three roles play a part in improving an individual's future prospects. While I agree on the importance these roles take, Brooks undermines the significance of moral education in higher education.
There are many different types of people on the University of Georgia campus, whether they come from the same or different background than I. There are people of different skin color, religion, ethnicity, and many other different backgrounds. Therefore, there are also many different beliefs in faith and values. At an institution of higher learning, such as the University of Georgia, there is respect for and interest in other people’s beliefs. There is never a push to "change" someone. Some students might alter their beliefs and values, but as for myself I will learn of others, but never change.
Christ utilizes rhetorical devices to elevate the effectiveness of the article. In the opening paragraph the use of the rhetorical questions: “If Bill Gates and Steve Jobs never earned degrees, is college really necessary? Why should taxpayers foot the bill for “pointless” departments like anthropology?”, provides the reader with an understanding of what is to be answered in the essay. The second paragraph refutes the sentiment of these questions and gives an effective response by stating, “Yet, judging the value of a liberal arts education, even with a purely economic calculus, shows it to be more relevant than ever before” (Christ, “Myth: A Liberal Arts Education is Becoming Irrelevant”). By providing a counter response to the questions, the author is clarifying her main argument. Ethos, is another integral part of proving an argument. Christ uses facts including “the Association of American Colleges and Universities shows that more than three-quarters of employers would recommend an education with this emphasis to a young person they know,” which make her point that being liberally educated will make someone more employable (Christ, “Myth: A Liberal Arts Education is Becoming Irrelevant”). A well-rounded education is very important and much supported. Two supporters are John Henry Newman and Paulo Freire. John Henry Newman was a professor at Oxford University and an Anglican minister that converted to Roman Catholicism and became a Pope. He delivered several lectures in Dublin, Ireland, about the importance of a Catholic education. These early lectures on education were revised and published in The Idea of a University. One of those lectures, “Knowledge Its Own End,” is about two distinct kinds of education (Austin, 53). Newman believed that there was a need for education purely for pleasure and education that is needed to pursue a specific career. Paulo Freire is a Brazilian literature professor and philosopher. Freire
Confucius compares education to the sculpting of marble. He said, "Just as the sculptor is to the marble, so is education to the soul. It releases it. For only educated men are free men." I see college as an irreplaceable time in my life when I can begin my journey to find the freedom that Confucius so eloquently describes. While in college, I want my education to bring me face to face with the awesome power of the human spirit and the human mind working together to achieve the beautiful and the revolutionary.
My philosophy of higher education is that thus far we have realized that the gift of sharing knowledge is one of the keys to success in our society. We have learned from so many great philosophers, scientist, and researchers that have fueled our knowledge in a vast variety subjects. The importance of passing on this knowledge and improving our society has shown to be important in human survival and our growth in the years to come. As the years pass and technology is getting more advanced, the need for higher education is steadily rising. In the past years, a bachelor’s degree was viewed as one of the greatest accomplishments of that time. Now in today’s standards, only having a bachelors degree will not suffice. Thus proving that higher education is the pillars for growth in humanity. Similar to my philosophy, I believe my Christian experience relates to my views of higher education. For instance, as Christians, we have learned that the keys to success is reading and learning from the Bible. Just as we have learned from past philosophers, the Bible provides Christians with knowledge to continue to walk in the path that God has paved for us to go to heaven. In addition, talking and communicating with God helps us in times of need. He is our teacher and supervisor providing us useful knowledge to succeed. From that guidance, it is our job to pass that knowledge to other Christians to grow in our faith. In both higher education and Christianity, our job is to pass our knowledge and faith to others to maintain and improve human survival for years to come. In conclusion, it is important to study religion off campus as Smart (1994) has said one must “walk a mile in [the] moccasins [of religious people]” in order to gain a real understanding of how belief has an impact on people and how it motivates people to live their lives, this cannot be obtained through textbooks or media reports. It is how Harvey (2013) suggests that belief has to be learnt and is enacted by others through witnessing, speaking, reading, ritualising, congregation and acceptance. Studying off campus does not mean challenging the traditional understanding of religion. Historical and textual books should still be used to provide foundation knowledge but one must go beyond this and engage with living religions in order to obtain a rich first-hand experience.
Christianity has its challenges. It places demands on us that set us apart from the rest of our world. The bible calls us a peculiar people, who navigate the challenge of living IN the world, without being OF the world. When we say ‘no’ to temptations that are enjoyed by the masses, we are labeled as self-righteous snobs, religious weirdoes, or worse. But we persevere, and we press toward that invisible line the Apostle Paul drew in the sands of time…for the high calling in Christ Jesus.

It can help one earn more money over a lifetime, and even can help someone live longer. Without college, the education system as we know it would be forever changed.
