Choreography
A choreographer is an important role in many careers throughout history. Their goals are to perfect and create a routine best suited for the dancer’s ability. The choreographer’s job is to tell a story and project images and emotions using a series of rhythmic movement. “Choreography is also used to arrange ice skating, cheerleading, synchronized swimming, and a variety of other performance arts”(Mcmahon1). Choreographers work with multiple or all various styles of dancing such as classical, ballroom dancing, and contemporary ballet. Choreographers teach their students how to move to music more artistically; therefore it is best that a choreographer has a background in dancing or other kind of visual art. One of the best ways to learn how to choreograph and teach others is through schooling and experience.

These types of dancing later evolve into dancing in the renaissance era in the 17th and century and modern day era. The Waltz isn’t a new dance but the dance had evolved from what it was in the past and became less directional. The dance was meant to be a slower dance than all the popular dances of the 1920s and it was more passionate and romantic. The most popular ballroom dance style was the Foxtrot and it just so happened that it was the easiest dance also. This dance consisted of smooth walking and could be danced to both fast and slow jazz tempos making it easy to transition between the two whenever the music switches up. The Foxtrot can be danced with simple steps if that was how the person felt was better or it could be danced with a series of complex steps meaning that it was a customizable dance. The Tango is another popular ballroom dance and came from Argentina. It’s popularity skyrocketed after “Rudolf Valentino performed it for a movie named Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”(Nelson). The Tango arrived to the dance scene earlier than all the other dances, making its first appearance in 1912. The Tango was a passionate dance meant to be danced with a partner and the steps had a distinct vibe that added a sense of drama to the dance. There were also other popular mentions: The Shimmy which was banned from most dance halls because of its impurity and was also known in gypsy dances, The Black Bottom which eventually beat the Charleston and became the number
Irish Step Dancing started around 1750, when the appearance of dance masters came about. Dance Masters would travel from town to town teaching their dances to people that were interested and that could pay for it. They would teach in barns, kitchens, crossroads, and hedge schools. These teachings went on in secret due to Penal Laws that were enacted in the late 17th century. The English were determined to suppress Irish culture and abolish Christianity so these laws banned the education of catholic children, which was why the Irish created hedge schools. The Dance Masters would start with dances like the Reel and the Jig. Each dance master had his own collection of dance steps and would also create their own over time, which lead to Step Dancing. 8 measures or bars or music is one step, thus the name “Step Dancing”. Often competitions were held where Dance masters would show off there steps and perform on small areas like a table top, top of a barrel, or a small stage. Dancing in these small areas showed great talent. The greater number of steps that were preformed or known the more respect a dance master received. Some Dance Masters would even compete at Feisianna, which was a combination of a trade fair, political gath...
For the dancer, music and choreography are paramount. The music guides the dancer, and the moves express the music. However, the dance has to start from somewhere.
A leader would sing while surrounded by a circle of. dancers who would sing back in reply (“The History”1). For century’s Irish dancing had been a peasant dance done in the villages to celebrate community gatherings and family events. Until the seventeenth century, when Queen Elizabeth I received a letter from Sir Henry Sydney describing the beautiful dance he saw (“The History”1). The Queen invited dancers to perform to her court. This created a new drive for people to start dancing, and in the early eighteenth century formed the Irish dancing we know
The development of dance took place over multiple years before evolving into what we call dance today. Because of Queen Elizabeth and her influence of dance, the first public theater was built in London (Singman, 150). This did cost money to do the construction but seemed to pull through and finish it. Seatings were arranged so that you looked down at the performers like we still do today in some theaters (Homans, 10). The idea of a stage came from pioneering Italian set designers. Wings, curtains, trapdoors, backdrops and machinery also came from these italian set

In addition, to this the way the dancers would move their hips in circles, swaying and shaking of the body like the pictures of The Banquet that was in the tomb of Netumen from 1400BC it showed the development of choreography and music in Egyptian culture. I think that Egypt kind of set the grounds for belly dancing even though many people do not know where belly dancing originated from but, have many ideas. Today, Egypt thought to be the home of belly dancing still, but their two main dance styles are Raqs Baladi and Raqs Sharqi. The oriental dance has a contained or internal feeling kind of compared to other styles.

Finding the right school or certifications is important. For this career in particular, the only certification needed is a high school diploma although getting a master may help get more jobs with experience. Majoring in dance in college can help the chances of becoming a professional choreographer. “Many programs concentrate on modern dance, but some also offer courses in jazz, culturally specific dance, ballet, or classical techniques” (Dancer / Choreographer Training and Qualifications).
