In the works by Freud, Diamond and Frankl they discuss how a person should live. In the life of Angelina Jolie, they would all have different opinions on if she is living her life correctly or not. In her life she has countless ups and downs. She is an award winning actress, film director, screenwriter, and author. She worked in humanitarian causes for example; Special Envoy, Goodwill, and as The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. She has been condemned for different reasons too. Most notably for the people she was married to. She was married to and divorced Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. She is also known for stealing Brad Pitt away from Jennifer Aniston. Many people resented her for this. She has three children with Brad Pitt and three adopted children from Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam. Because of this some people consider her a saint, but some people say that she only adopted the children for publicity reasons (Wikipedia). Many people also look down on her because of the one time that she made out with her brother. Many people think of this as taboo and think that she was wrong for doing that. The three philosophers, Freud, Diamond and Frankl would all have different opinions on how whether she lived her life correctly and to the fullest.
I believe Freud would think that Angelina Jolie lived her life correctly. When talking about putting the two different classes of instincts together “aims at complicating life and at the same time, of course, at preserving it." (Freud 220) I believe that he is saying that you should do all the things in life that you can. She is living her life to the fullest and making the most out of it. Freud says that you have to do everything possible to live a full life. This i...

... it makes me think that he is saying to suffer through something gives you a new appreciation for it. I believe that Angelina Jolie has suffered a lot, so she appreciates life. She did not have the best of childhoods. She also has always been in the media, making her life very difficult. She has also had to battle through cancer, making her appreciate the life that she lives. Angelia Jolie, according to Frankl, has lived a very meaningful life.
In the life of Angelina Jolie, I conclude that Freud, Diamond and Frankl all would surmise that she lived a meaningful and fulfilling life. She has children and a career to be proud of. She is very involved in the community. She has power, making her not have to turn to violence to achieve this power. She also has love, her work, and suffering. According to the three philosophers, this is what makes your life have meaning.
She alludes to the idea that as people we must look deeper into our lives and see were we may have been given unearned privilege whether is be from race, gender, or sexuality.
In the movie “Diary of a Black Woman”, Helen is a dark complected woman who is very fancy and classy. Helen is a pretty well mannered woman , dressed neatly. Helen has every dollar wished for in the world but yet, does not own a bit of happiness even if desired. Throughout the experience of love, Helen’s personality changes; from warmly soft to a harsh cold hearted woman with a shattered heart.

“To call either man optimistic about human nature would be stretching a point. They point out flaws, and Freud, at least, attempts to find a means to cure them. According to both, the human spirit simply does not soar, and frustrations and unhappiness continue to keep human nature from finding happiness.” (1)
Steve Jobs is trying to say that you should live every day like it is your last. He knew his life had value to him and his family. He felt like life was worth living even though once in a while a hard choice would come along to toughen his life. Making a choice is very hard, but when making a choice it should be one that you will not regret later in life. Making choices is one of the hardest things in life so you must see all the good and all the bad to the outcome of your options. Live everyday like it is your last. Ebert says that life is a very precious thing. Hamlet wants to die, but him not knowing what is on the other side scares so he decides to live. Even though Ebert had to get surgery, he got through it and learned to still live his life with no regrets.
Frankl believes that there exists “potential meaning inherent and dormant in all the single situations one has to face throughout his or her life” (143). Frankl finds meaning even in terrible suffering. While he in no way purports suffering as a necessary means to finding meaning, he acknowledges that the way a man responds to suffering allows him “to add a deeper meaning to his life” (67). Does this man maintain his morality? Does he become compromised by the atrocities surrounding him? Perhaps even a desire to maintain one’s morals and prove his inner strength and humanity can be seen as a meaning to
Dr. Sigmund Freud came up with a lot of controversial notions, but also set standards in psychology that are still used today. Looking at what is known as the psychoanalytic approach to personality will reveal how these theories are still relevant, and continue to define personality traits (Friedman & Schustack, 2012). Exploring Freud’s theories of the conscious/unconscious by looking at one’s own id, ego, and superego will help explain the human personality and why one does the things they do. Freud’s ideas were mainly based on how the mind works with a special emphasis on how it is all set up in childhood (Psychoanalytic theory, n.d.). This brings to mind that adults are just children with a lot of practice being adults. Everything one does
I think that what the author was trying to imply in this passage was that in his personal experience, he has noticed that many people take many things for granted and that they don’t live their lives according to what they want and need to do. So much is wasted during one’s lifetime, and people just allow their lives to pass them by.
Though Freud had issues with women which shaped his views on cases such as this one somewhat differently, he remained rather objective throughout. His reasoning behind the events that brought the girl to him made sound, logical sense. Even his reason for dumping this case and suggesting they take it up with a different psychoanalysist made a lot of sense. It is definitely more logical than pushing ahead against and almost un-budge-able brick wall build up of bitterness and resentment of men. All in all I was pretty impressed by a man who many bad mouth today.
In Sigmund Freud's observation, humans are mainly ambitious by sexual and aggressive instincts, and search for boundless enjoyment of all needs. However, the continuous pursuit of gratification driven by the identification, or unconscious, directly conflicts with our society as the uncontrolled happiness. Sigmund Freud believed that inherent sexual and aggressive power prevented from being expressed would cause our "society to be miserable and the forfeiture of contentment." Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic view of personality theory is based on the perception that greatly of human behavior is determi...
Freud believed that a person's dreams fulfilled wishes and gave that person a sense of accomplishment to something that may only be achieved in the unconscious. Although Freud may have had persuasive views on certain issues, he by no means goes about proving these views in a scientific way. His approach is entirely skewed because he is trying to make Dora fit into his model theory so that her case provides concrete evidence to support those theories. However in doing this, he disrupts the natural essence of Dora. Scientists act in the reverse manner, in that they try to observe things in their natural state without disturbing them. Freud's biased views and way of conducting his sessions make it hard to believe that he has any suitable scientific data to support his theory, and thus is not to be considered a real scientist.
He enters the first big point by saying “After all are role as care givers, as people who care is to relieve suffering not add to the pile.” I really like this statement, basically saying that we shouldn’t add more stress or hurt a person any more than what they already are, we should try and help them / care about them. Even to our selves’ we should try to care for our self and not keep suffering , do things that excite you and are healthy to you. BJ talks about frank
Diana’s life seemed like a charmed one. She was the daughter of nobility chosen to marry the Prince of England. “Diana, Princess of Wales, 1961–97, was wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne. The daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer, Lady Diana Frances Spencer was a kindergarten teacher in London before her 1981 marriage to Charles” (Princess of Wales, Diana). Diana was chosen specifically for her youth and beauty so that she could produce attractive and healthy offspring for the British monarchy. They needed a male heir and a spare. She delivered on her end of the deal when William was born in 1982, and Harry, in 1994 (Princess of Wales, Diana). Diana was supposed to do whatever she was told by the royal family, and produce sons. Her personal happiness was not a factor. Her husband had an ongoing affair with his long time love Camilla Parker-Bowles during most of his marriage to Diana. They fought constantly, and it didn’t help that she often stole the spotlight with her effortless grace and beauty.
On a sunny day in Los Angeles, California on June 4 , 1975 an actress named Angelina Jolie was born. Angelina was born to an actor named Jon Voight who was well known for his role in “Coming Home” and an actress Marcheline Betrand. Angelina was the youngest of her siblings , she had an older brother named James Haven. When Angelina was two her parents split and she moved to Palisades, New York with her mother and brother.
Throughout Freud’s time, he came up with many different theories. One of his theories was Life and Death Instincts. This theory evolved throughout his life and work. He believed that these drives were responsible for much of behavior. He eventually came to believe that these life instincts alone couldn’t explain all human behavior. Freud then determined that all instincts fall into one of 2 major classes: the life instincts or the death instincts. Life instincts deal with basic survival, reproduction, and pleasure. Death instincts are apparent after people experience a traumatic event and they often reenact the experience. In Freud’s view, self-destructive behavior is an expression of the energy that is created by the death instincts.
