The 1960s was a time period which changed the way people viewed the world. It was a time for rebellion and disobedience in which a whole genre was born. It challenged the normal and caused uproar in the older generations. The ideas that came out of this era have been present in today’s society. Music in the generation now has had the same effect as the 1960s did. It has caused a major uproar in the older generations and has caused teens to be “more rebellious”. By using what the teens did in the 1960s, kids in this generation were able to create their own genre in hopes of possibly being as influential as older generations were.
People in the 1960’s thought of themselves as more than musicians. They realized they were artists as well as politicians, and much more than just influential singers. Bob Dylan, a singer who came out of the 1960s period, believed all this to be true. The music is rebellious and something that older generation either find offensive or just hate it. It’s a form of music in which our current generation is in love with, and the older generation wants to punish us for listening to it. “ Whatever s--t that kids born in 2000 and later are listening to now has me thinking that, for the first time ever in the genre’s 40-plus-year history, some type of distinction really is necessary, because that s--t simply shouldn’t be categorized as ‘hip-hop.’ “ (Seibert 1) Our generation’s style of hip-hop has challenged the ideas of what hip-hop is, just like rock challenged the style of the 1960s. Hip-hop music nowadays is this generations rebellious music. It is something that maybe 50 years from now will be our normal, and awful to the nexts generation. Sooner or later a whole new wave of music will be present, which may or may not follow in the footsteps of the 1960
