What does Veterans Day mean to me? Veterans Day, or Armistice Day, was proclaimed a national holiday on November 11, 1919 by Woodrow Wilson, to honor those who had served for the U.S during World War 1, or the Great War as it was then called. On June 1, 1954, Armistice day officially becomes Veterans Day to honor all that have served in the American military. What does Veterans Day mean to me? It means honoring those who have served our country. It means honoring those who were wounded and the many who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order for us to enjoy the things we take for granted. He served as an engineer and met many lifelong friends. Luckily he did not have to go into combat unlike so many. He got to come home to his wife and son unlike many others. John, or C.J. as most call him, my Nana’s first husband was not quite as lucky. C.J. served in Vietnam, like my grandfather. Before C.J. met my Nana, he enlisted as a 17 year old high school dropout. While serving he was shot in the leg and head. He had to lie on the ground, pretending to be dead. After he was discharged, he divorced his first wife and soon married my Nana. C.J. which was a nickname given to him in Vietnam, stands for Crazy John, which many called him during recovery. He suffered from severe PTSD and would often wake up screaming. ONce he even took a gun to my Nana’s head after a nightmare. This is the reality of many of our heros. Studies have shown that an average of twenty American veterans kill themselves daily. This is what Veterans Day means to me, to honor and thank this who served and sacrificed so much for us. It doesn’t matter if they were medics, officers in combat, or engineers, they all sacrificed and deserve to be recognized for their
When you look into veterans eyes, you can see several things that are important. The pride shines through, the pride of serving ones country, and the dedication to protect other peoples freedom even it if requires paying the ultimate price. These men and women give their lives to give us our freedom. As a one of the many individuals that they are protecting it is vital that we see that pride and appreciate where it comes from.
A day to remember all armed forces (60 000 servicemen/women) that sacrifice and gave their life during 8 months of war as well as other wars and conflict
America’s veterans should be honored because they have suffered through so many hardships that others could not and have not survived, and they did it for their country that they loved and still love today.
Veterans day means a day for us to thank the ones who have served in the military and war. Sacrificing every moment of their lives to defend our country. The Veterans have a significant importance everywhere. Whatever the reason is for them serving our country we should appreciate them for all their work. Veterans day was created because World War I ended . Fighting and wars did not end and are still going on and there are still Veterans out here today. Veterans day is a day to celebrate ones who were in war. Not to be confused with Memorial day , memorial day is when we celebrate the ones who died serving. People today in our society don’t take in consider the ones protecting us every single day. Who do you think fights for us and our country.
To summarize, these warriors who have dedicated their lives to serving this country with justice, bravery and dedication have achieved more than what they are recieving now. Dont these amazing men and women deserve more honor and respect by getting the medical attention that they so desperatley earned while defending our liberties and freedoms that make us the strong United States of America that we all have come to love?
Our veterans seem stronger or braver than most people, but they are still like you or anyone else, maybe it just doesn't seem like it. They have jobs and families like anyone else, and they perform daily tasks just like everyone else does. Why then, do they seem so different?
On November 11, we celebrate a holiday called Veterans Day. This day used to be called Armistice Day. It was called this because, November 11, 1918, was the day that World War I ended. This war was known as the War that End All Wars. Sadly, it was not the last war so they changed the name of this day. When Congress changed the name of this holiday in 1954 they called it Veterans Day. Congress named it Veterans Day because it honors people who have risked their lives for you and me.
I am making this letter to thank you, and all veterans that have helped our country and me. I feel very grateful that you would give up your life and freedom for this country and its people. I understand that veterans day used to be called Armistice day. I also understand that you and many other military people have helped save and protect our country's freedom and faith. Veterans day is a day to thank and respect all military soldiers. All people have someone in the family, dead or alive, that has served in the military at one point in time,and they should treasure it and if your family doesn't treaser you then they need to start and do it quick because any military solider is special and should be thanked every day even if it isn't veterans

Who are veterans? What have they done that is so important to our country? Veterans are men and women who have fought in war and severed our country. One word can describe why they are important, freedom. Have you ever wondered why veterans and soldiers wear their army suits everywhere? They are showing us that they severed our country and defended our freedom. We, the people of the United States, would not be present if we did not have soldiers protecting our nation. We should honor veterans because the effects of war are still prominent in their everyday lives. The majority of veterans experience both mental and physical health issues as a result of war. Because of these disabilities, they may find it difficult to keep a job or be able to do every day functions by themselves. There are approximately 21.8 million veterans in the world today and roughly 22 veterans die every day due to their mental and physical disabilities. We should honor them because not only did they suffer during war, but they are still suffering from the effects of war and some are not getting the proper help that they need.
The reason we have this holiday is to “honor all the military service members who have served during times of peace and of war’ according to the Department of veterans affairs. This day is important because it shows how much we appreciate there service to this country, it also honors all soldiers who died in service. Veterans day started about a hundred years ago on Nov. 11, 1918 this is the year the fighting stopped in WW1 so this is the day that congress decided to set some time apart each year to show our gratefulness to our troops. president Jerald
To me, Veterans Day is an important holiday because it bring attention to those who deserve it most yet get overlooked. I feel that any person willing to put their life on the line or in stressful, complicated circumstances for the betterment of others deserves praise. In my opinion, veterans are the unsung heros of this nation and stand as inspirations to all, including myself.
Flag Day is observed to commemorate the adoption of the American Flag. The American Flag was adopted on June 14, 1777. The United States Army was founded on June 14, 1775, which was before America was established as a country.
