As you enter the red bricked school building on the first day, you do not know who your teacher will be. It could be a tall, old, young or nasty woman or man. But you always try to make yourselves presentable, since the first impression is always the last. Some students come, sit with their heads down, and speak nothing for the period. Others just disperse in the back posting pictures on instagram of their first day of school. However the not so ordinary student introduces themselves, tells the class what they did over the summer, and starts asking teacher questions even before the teacher has taught the lesson. They stand out from the rest. By the end of the day, the teacher has already figured out who the “perfect student” is.
The “Perfect Student” does not necessarily have to be smart. The “Perfect Student” is a hardworking soul who can be counted on to do the right thing. They abide by the rules and meet the teacher’s expectations. You can always tell a perfect student apart from the others. They are always handing in their homework, doing extra credit, and answering every ques...
“School can be a tremendously disorienting place… You’ll also be thrown in with all kind of kids from all kind of backgrounds, and that can be unsettling… You’ll see a handful of students far excel you in courses that sound exotic and that are only in the curriculum of the elite: French, physics, trigonometry. And all this is happening while you’re trying to shape an identity; your body is changing, and your emotions are running wild.” (Rose 28)
In the novel, What the Best College Students Do written by Ken Bain, we learn about how college student goes through rough times in their college life. The author brings up a common issue that occurs in the academic life of college students. It is the need of having self confidence and self esteem. Bain believes that if a student loves and admires themselves it will give the student a better advantage of having a well-being lifestyle than all their other peers that are having difficulties. Many college students focus mainly on their grades other than the knowledges that they are learning in class. The idea of having perfect grades in all the subjects are limiting the students from approaching activities that they might be interested.
...roughout the session. “Good teachers are not born, nor are they made by tutors. They make themselves. Whats more, anyone can teach well. Research shows that there is no personality type that makes a good teacher. Whether you are a shy introvert or an enthusiastic extrovert, you can teach effectively, but only if you know how to learn from your mistakes and your successes”. (Petty 2009 pg.516 2009)
In “The Essentials of a Good Education” by Diane Ravitch, she states that students are not getting a full curriculum because schools are focusing too much on the subjects the government has mandated. Since public schools are insistent on maintaining good test scores from their students, they taking more time for practice tests and are making cuts to other classes or departments they feel are less necessary to the students’ education, but in reality make them well-rounded students and future citizens. The No Child Left Behind law and the Race to the Top program have caused schools to obsess over test scores and data instead of keeping an advanced curriculum for their students. Educated parents would only want the best school with a full curriculum
This time, it is the teacher who must step up and learn more about their students.
“If you would just get up and teach them instead of handing them a packet. There’s kids in here that don’t learn like that. They need to learn face to face. I’m telling you what you need to do. You can’t expect a kid to change if all you do is just tell ‘em.” Texas student, Jeff Bliss, decided to take a stand against the lack of teaching going on in his class (Broderick).
In the front of a fourth-grade classroom, there sits the ever-smiling face of a little girl. Each morning, this girl is the first to class, dressed neatly and appropriately, with a backpack full of supplies in order for her to be successful in the classroom. Her homework is always finished, and her parents always make sure she is doing her reading, and trying for excellent grades. The constant efforts of the child in the classroom, and her perpetual kindness to all of her peers has persuaded the teacher into being impressed with the little girl’s work this year. She decides, along with her fellow faculty, to award the child a certificate stating she is the Student of the Month. The child barely makes it through the bus ride home due to
With so many students and so many faces in each class, college professors don’t personally get to know their students. A professor wouldn’t even notice if a student didn’t attend class one day, or if that person was taking that class at all. In big classes, the professor won’t even know a students’ name by the last day of class. In high school, teachers get to know their students on a first and last name basis within at least the first couple of weeks. High School teachers know each students personality, study habits, and grades by the end of each y...
From an overview perspective all the students blend together like a silhouette but up close each individual is very distinct; showing different emotions and having manifold characteristics. Some students are zombified and show no emotion like they have been brainwashed into how to act. They walk down the hallway not darting an eye, locked into some sort of autopilot trance. Some students look moody or their faces scowl red with anger, giving off an impression of not enjoying school. One student stomps down the hallway like a steam engine; smoke, fire and all.

There are many different types of students. All students have their own way of studying and learning material. A student’s attitude is the most determining factor in how well a student performs academically. Some students are eager to learn and try their best; however, some students could care less about learning. Each year students decide whether they will succeed or fail in school. All students fall into one category or another. Students can be classified into three categories: Overachievers, Average Joes, and Do Not Give a Rips.
Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal will be to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique. I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. Each student has a different learning style. I must take this into consideration because I want to provide a constructive learning opportunity for every student. I believe that every student has the potential to learn.
He was every teacher's dream student; polite, smart... The only flaw that came with him is that he was always late, to everything. But the teachers didn't seem to care, since his grades made up for that. Mrs. Quinn took the attendance list and began reading out names, loud and clear. " Kristina Burton and Erick Liebbs, Jack Baldwin and Yuri Nakamura..." I listened precisely until my name was finally called. "
For most schools, learning is a different story. With the average class of twenty-five students, it takes a few weeks for teachers to learn everyone's name. What does that mean for the shy kids sitting in the back? They might get called on less, ove...
The good teacher works with all students.A friend of mine told me how her maths teacher tolerates only students who are good at mathematics or those who have special interest in the subject.Towards the rest of the class my friend says she`s very exacting. She gives homeworks and tests without bothering to ask about difficulties. She doesn`t try to explain it and as a result many students keep getting bad marks.
