Garrett Sheaman Mr. Saleeba English IV 12 March 2018 President George Washington All world leaders are judged based on if they were successful or a failure at their job, and George Washington is a leader who I believe was a successful leader. These are the things he did and the traits he possessed that made him a great leader. The first thing he did was he helped the United States separate from Britain control. Next, Washington had the ability to unify the people that were around him. Last, he put the welfare of his men and his country before his own. These are the traits that Washington possessed that made him great. The first thing George Washington did that made him a great leader was he helped the U.S. gain independence from Great Britain. In 1775, Washington was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Colonial Armies. During the Revolutionary War, he led his men into many battles including the ones in Princeton and Yorktown. His most important victory was when he commanded his men across the Delaware River on Christmas day in 1776 and set up a surprise attack on the British troops in Princeton. In 1781, the British surrendered in Yorktown to Washington and his army of 17,000 men. Then in 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed and officially ended the war. …show more content…

He would set aside differences and resolve arguments by staying focused on what had to be done. During the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Washington did not contribute much to the heated debates, instead he would calm the others down to keep them focused on forming the new United States Government. Also, after the Battle of Trenton, many of the men of the Continental Army wanted to leave after their enlistments, but Washington persuaded them to stay together and keep moving towards Princeton and Yorktown to try and win the war.
