What Makes Christopher Columbus A Hero

Christopher Columbus : Hero

Christopher Columbus first set off on his first exploration in 1492. With all of his explorations, he has made American history by far amazing. Columbus changed American history and if he didn’t set sail, our world and the place we live would be much different. Not only did he sail off to hopefully find new land, it all started with him wanting to find new riches to make his land richer and accomplish more. What his explorations found, and what happened on the explorations are my main focus. The points that are given are what make Christopher Columbus, a hero.

Columbus has sailed three different ships, Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria (History.com) . His main goal was to find new land that he could claim, and he could find resources such as gold, or spices. He wanted this to make his home land richer. Although,

he had difficulty finding land because there was much more sea than he thought (History.com). This was a bump in the rode for his expedition and made it more challenging to find the “New World” The crew that was on the ship finally saw signals of land. They felt successful and they had discovered a part of the new world. They didn't stay for long, after discovering the new land, they retrieved back to their west course. Soon enough, a little after midnight, the sailor found something. They made signals, light was seen but no one could confirm that it was land (History.com) . The King was called and told to take a look at the land, and so he did. When he gave it a look, he could not see a thing, so he could not confirm that it was land either. One of the crew members thought it was a candle that was burning, and it was moving up and down (History.com). Moving forward on their journey, the crew was told to watch well for land and whoever yelled first when land was sighted, would be rewarded. Two hours after midnight, a pair of two yelled out, for sighting new land. On Friday , October 12th they showed up at at a small island called Guanahani. People were already living on this island, although they didn’t newly discover it, it was still an achievement, and a start to finding the “New World”. Not only did they get closer to finding the new world, but they also found new trees, fresh water, and healthy fruit. In 1486, he wanted to start a voyage, but was rejected by many groups of people that could sponsor him (A&E Network Television) . That did not stop him, he continued to ask and soon after January 1492, the monarchs agreed to finance his expedition, in August of 1492. Columbus left Spain in the Santa Maria, with the Pinta and the Nina along with them (A&E Network Television). Columbus found the new world in 1492 (History.com and A&E Network Television), and continued to go on expeditions. This contributes to Christopher Columbus to be a hero because if he never went on his expeditions the world we live in might be a lot different, and American history wouldn’t have been how it is today.
There are many ways Columbus changed our history and how it made it how it is today. Yes, he found the “New World” and set out many expeditions but that is not all he did, although his expeditions grew as he found new land.There are many other things that he introduced. He also introduced colonization into the New World (Reference). With this the culture was destroyed. Along with colonization he found a new transfer of plants, animals, and diseases. (Reference). This was good for his colony because it would help them get more food from plants and animals and increase the population of living animals, this would also help from animals going extinct. Apparently, there was an unprecedented mixed of culture. The population of the people ,although, was not going very well and was fighting about giving up land to the Europeans. There was findings of new crops such as coffee, wheat, and sugarcane. The Native Americans made those crops into cash crops, in turn the Americans gave Europe crops such as potatoes, tomatoes, and corn (Reference). Finally he changed the course of history (Crowder). Relating back to the things he brought, he brought Christianity into the New World and gave us religious freedom (Crowder). With these things, he made our history the beginning of something new and brought beliefs into the new land. These are more points that prove Columbus is a hero and not a villain.
Columbus was the explorer that opened up the Americas to the western world.

(Debate.org). Columbus was not the very first person to find the New World, but he is the first person to explore it and tell other people about it. He opened another whole part of the world to not only his people but the people living in other places on the world, and at the time, it was a big deal and it still is. Without Columbus the American history would not have been possible without him. (Debate.org). This is why we have Columbus day, is to reward him for what he found and how he created our history, and possibly without him, nothing would be the same. Some people say it would be a few centuries before America would be found, or it wouldn't have been found at all. He reunited the human history (Debate.org). Debate.org said "He did something that everyone thought that was impossible - to cross the Atlantic". Before this was found, the Europeans believed there were only three continents and one ocean: Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Atlantic Ocean. With his explorations, he proved them wrong and showed that there was much more land than they

thought.
Christopher Columbus is a hero in todays world because of the American History. He found many animals, plants, and diseases, without some of these things we would not have all of the clothing we wear, or the food we eat. By finding new cultures and discovering the New World, Columbus is a hero, and without him, North America probably wouldn’t be found for a long time and nothing would be the same or anything alike today.
