There are certain types of people that go out of their way to keep others happy. They influence and help others when they need it. While in this unique period of time, it can seem quite uncommon to see someone try to make a difference in their community. Most adolescents are much too absorbed in video games, cell phones, or other technology that comes into their lives to look at the bigger picture around them. This “bigger picture” consists of the community they live in, the school, church, and friends that mostly influence who they are if they so choose. Those that choose to be influenced are called role models. Role models have a certain behavior that is unique to others. That behavior is usually imitated by other pupils, usually younger children. These mentors possess the qualities that society strives to perfect. The role models have an outlook that fills the role an individual is trying to aspire so that the same individual looks up to their “mentor.” Each role model teaches a person about themselves. For example, writers can teach us messages about human life through words. The message might help someone realize that life isn’t all about them and that they should go out to do things that make them and other people happy. A role model isn’t brash; only looking back to see if he/she can help those that came from the very same place they did. Role models make big and small differences depending on how they affect a person. Since children or others affected, learn by following the example set by older people in their lives, being consistent with your actions is important. Since we all develop certain socialization skills by watching others, becoming a positive role model cuts the cake. If you have ever done something out of no benefit for yourself, but for others, the feeling is indescribable. Becoming a role model is something that is earned without the person knowing they are one. You cannot go out and try to be a role model; you will be one by being yourself. The impact of a role model is outstanding! The peers looking up to you hope to live up to the standards you set. The life experiences of one’s role model will teach and educate us in the lessons of life which cannot be found anywhere else. “If I can do it, so can you” offers so much potential to the one learning from the mentor. Seeing role models successfully confronting hardships will motivate people to endure difficulties and crises. So go out and be yourself. Be someone’s role model by taking big steps forward. Being positive is addicting.
A good role model sets the path for others to follow, by being outstanding in all they do. Naturally, people learn by observing, more than by listening. This enables people learn what they can observe easily as compared to what they hear. When a leader becomes a role model, there is a likelihood they will comprehend better what the people being led go through, hence the leader will impose practical expectations on the followers (Charles 9).
A role model is someone that is sought for guidance, and often admired. When thinking of my own role model, the qualities I wish to have when I become an adult come to mind. When scanning through the many influential adults that have shaped who I am today, deciding on just one role model is a difficult feat. However, I see the person I wish to become, reflected in the life of my dad. For that reason, my role model is my own father.

Self-esteem plays a crucial role in many different aspects of an adolescent’s life. Having a low self-esteem has been found to be in direct relationship with negative outcomes and behaviors (Harter, 1999). A key factor that can positively affect the self-esteem of adolescents is the presence of a role model. With prosocial behaviors and social support, role models can help amplify the self-esteem of an adolescent, decreasing the likelihood that the adolescent will engage in negative behaviors such as: violence, bullying, substance use, and eating behaviors.
The definition of a role model is “a person looked at by others as an action to be imitated.” Everybody has the opportunity to be a role model whether they want to or not. An example of that is Dennis Rodman, a NBA player who acted in ways that people looked at as rebellious and wrong. The way he acted was rebellious, such as, the technical fouls he received, and fights he got into. He created an image, the image being dyed hair, earrings, and tight clothing. This image was associated with those actions. Young children who were now mimicking that style, this new unorthodox behavior, were being disciplined for displaying the behavior. Not necessarily the style itself, but the behavior associated with the style.
But what does it mean to be a “Role Model”? How can I be role model some might ask? By the true definition in the English Language a role model is a person looked to by others as an example to be imitated.
Being a role model comes with having good character. Being a role model to the people around me is something I attempt to be. Taking other people's feelings and well being into consideration is something I do every day. Not only does my good character show in the school, but it is also show during sports. I portray outstanding sportsmanship by following the athletic code. As a committed student-athlete I can take constructive criticism very well. This criticism has positively affected me and shaped me to who I am today. I always try to demonstrate good character through honesty, poise, and reliability. In addition, I show concern for others and greatly contribute to society as any good citizen would. My great character is shown through my academic achievements as well as through the relationships I have built with my peers, family, and other individuals closely tied to my
...eing a role model or a leader is such an important position. I have learned a lot of things about myself while writing this paper. I have learned that I am not very vocal and bossy towards others. I am the type of person that does not like to be in charge because I do not like the pressure of having to lead other people. However, throughout this paper and class I have learned that I can still be a leader even if I am not in your face about things. I can still make a change and make an impact on people through different ways. This paper taught me a lot about what leadership means to me.
Role models can make a huge difference in a child's life. My Physical Education teacher had a major impact of effecting of what I want to be now. Aleta Jo Crotty helped me to learn to take responsibility for my actions, and in my choices I am in control. By using guidelines that was set by her for my life, I hope to reach just one child.
In my life, my grandfather has always been my role model. He valued his beliefs and always abides by his values. My grandfather is a pastor. His leadership position in church gave him many responsibilities. I was never disappointed because he always tried to live an honest life. He was always trustworthy, reliable and responsible not just in church but also for his family. People followed his lead because he was always true to his words; he literally practiced what he preached. Credibility was the basic foundation for my grandfather’s leadership position. His credibleness has helped the church stay
Many people find someone in his/her life to look up to, a role model. There are many different kinds of role models; they can be singers, public speakers, a parent, or even a friend. Role models also are not determined by certain criteria. A role model can be a role model just because they are a leader or have a great talent. Oprah Winfrey is considered a role model to many individuals because of her tough childhood, wonderful charity work, her schools, and the true relationships with her fans. Oprah stands out among many people on her ability to feel others’ pain and help those people get through their troubling times.
Children are influenced left and right by role models all across the world in ways that could have a positive or negative impact on them. A role model is a person whose success or unsuccess is impacted by people, especially children. Celebrities often times become role models without even choosing to be because of the social media. For example, even turning on the television for two minutes you can hear all the negative things that these celebrities have done. These public figures should not be considered role models because they influence poor decision making, they can lower children's self esteem, and while children rely on celebrities, parents should be their role models.
Everyone has that one person in their life has influenced to be who they are. Some weren’t meant to be looked up to, still somehow that person shaped them to be who they are today. It could be anyone, a friend, teacher, most of the time a parent. A parent that has influenced their child would be a hard parent, who disciplined and showed the real world to their kid, for what it really is. In hopes that their kid will survive the real world and pass on their knowledge to their kids and their children and so on.
Many of us have role models in our lives and to most people role models are athletes and movie stars, but to me a role model is much more. To me a role model is a person who has positively influenced someone in life, and is not a person filled with selfishness and greed. They help shape someone’s personality, and characteristics. They are people who someone can look up to for advice in a hard situation, and know that they will give those words of wisdom. They will never judge our past actions, instead only look to help because they really care. A role model is someone who we should never feel awkward talking to about our problems. A perfect role model for me is my mother. She is a wonderful human being. She’s smart, wise, ambitious, patient and such a loving person. There are no words that can describe my gratitude towards her, but through this essay I will describe some of her characteristics that makes her my role model.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the word “Role Model” is defined as “a person whose behavior in a particular role is imitated by others” (Role Model, n.d.). With just because you have “followers,” that doesn’t make you a role model. In the article “How Kim Kardashian became a role model we can’t afford to lose” by Andrea Peyser (2016), the word “Role Model” is altered from its positive outlook; to a very broad and loosely used word in today’s society. It’s important to choose who we call “Role Models” and how their outlook can be a positive influence instead of a negative one. in the article “Role Model OR Authentic Professional?” by Merz (2015), it depicts the difference between people who are famous and ones that are actual role models, who is a positive influence (Merz 2015). Even though the word “Role Model” doesn’t define whether or not that it is a positive or negative trait, we tend to look
