What makes a person an American? Three reasons on what makes a person an American What makes a person an american? What is an American? Is it someone who votes for the president? Is it someone who takes a stand in what they believe in? People have very different views on what makes an American. It could be the people that fight for our safety. It could be the people that help make a home safe. It may even be a person who fights for themselves. What makes a person an American is not living in the united states. There are plenty of people that have migrated to America, and have the same believes as any U.S citizen. Each person in this hectic world have their own views politically, socially, and emotionally, but that doesn’t make someone an American. What I have seen in my life what makes a person an American, are these three qualities, integrity, gratitude, and power. Initially, integrity would not be the …show more content…
first to come to the mind. This is one quality that makes a person an american. People who have integrity tend to treat people the way they should be treated. Integrity is important for an American, because no one show sit anymore. People are doing a tremendous amount of stuff to people that affect them more than they could ever imagine. The people today wear masks they don’t go out with a bang, they just go out. People with integrity have the power to do amazing things in America. They are able to make people feel safe, and sound. People are able take the bull by their horns and fight for the country, or fight for themselves in many ways. Clearly integrity is a part of an American that everyone has but doesn’t show. Second of all, gratitude is another trait on what makes a person an American.
When people have gratitude it makes ths country a better place. The people of this country could be caring, or helpful, and our country suffers from the selfish people in it. Gratitude makes a person an American, because they show respect to each and every person they meet and will meet in the future. They have the caring ways to help their friends, and family out at anytime. Gratitude is a trait that should be in any American citizen, because it shows the people of this country that it could be a better place if people would start treating others with kindness. The truth is, as I was growing up, I didn’t see much kindness in the world. People were treating others lousy, worthless, and, horrid. If more people had gratitude ther would be less murders, more love, and so much more faith in the world. Today we see people die, and are used to it. We hear about attacks and absolutely do nothing for the people that need it. Obviously, we need to find more of this stuff called
gratitude. Last but not least, we have power. The power I’m talking about is personal power, the power where you believe in yourself, and try to make this world succeed. Power has quite an affect on the people of the world. People don’t always have the power to stand up for what they believe in, or what they want in life. What makes a person an American, is not winning the presidential election, it’s being able to have the power to fight in the war, give people something you never had, and just be able to stand up for the country that you live in. America has become a place where all that matters is power, and that's what will always matter. Power is not something handed to you on a silver platter, you have to earn it. You have to be the person that everyone looks up to, and wants to be when they are adults. The people that have the right power are the one’s that will succeed in this world, because of their gut feeling on how the world works. In conclusion, there is not any person that can say they have all three of these traits. No one has all of them only some of them. In my perspective people are falling into the wrong crowd, not knowing how to get out. We all hardworking citizens in America, but we forget the fact that don’t really do much for our country when all we do is complain about it. If people could find some way to come together and protect the country, they could live a good life. Not everyone will find out that our country is not the perfect place to live. We all will live during a war, an attack or two, it’s apart of the war that come about today. What makes a person an American, is being able to do the little things, big things, and making the sacrifices for our country that no one would have dream of in their earlier years. Clearly, there is no perfect person, but there is a good one.
Gratitude is a gift that the earth urgently needs. Consistent gratitude is a form of recognition of the gift and the giver. Daily gratitude can help eliminate the need for more and practicing more of only what we need. Gratitude leads to a society of contentment rather than one that's always in need of more. We human individuals have conventions for appreciation; we apply them formally to each other. We say thank you. “We understand that receiving a gift
To be an American is to be proud of your flag and country, to be willing to suffer for America, and to never be willing to give up.
Americans are defined by the respect they have for their country and its government, in taking advantage of their freedoms and rights that they gain by showing respect through allegiance, pride, and loyalty.
America has always been looked at as “The New World” where people from all over come to fulfil their dreams. Their dreams may not have been exceptional, but only to have enough to survive, have a house where their children could be raised and feel free and protected. Now, according to Webster’s online dictionary Americanism is defined as a custom, trait, belief, etc., peculiar to the United States of America or its citizens, but to me it means so much more.
What does it take to be a true American? This question is something that is always in the back of people’s minds every day as they try to execute the right interpretation of one. Being an American is more than being a legalized citizen, it is about recognizing the accurate perception of different ideas of a better society and their benefits. Despite all the diversity of ethnicity, culture or religion, being a real American is about being able to be devoted to their country and to fight for their rights and freedoms.
Gratitude is one of the positive emotions shown from research and clinical trials to enhance the general well being of human beings. Gratitude is defined by Emmons (2004) as “a sense of thankfulness and joy in response to receiving a gift, whether the gift be a tangible benefit from a specific other or a moment of peaceful bliss evoked by natural beauty. Emmons and McCullough also see gratitude as an attitude, a habit, a personality trait and a way of handling difficult situations response (Emmons & Stern, 2013).
What makes an American an American? Is it the accent, the clothing, the fact that you
You just arrived to a place, a huge place you then decide whether you think you belong here or not. You then realize there are different cultures around you and then you think that you do belong here, because you then know that you have came here to achieve your dream, your American dream. In the Hakim 8 “What Is An American” article Crevecoeur said “Here individuals of all nations are melted into a new race of men, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great change in the world.” Does this make you a American or does it not.People are arguing that this does make them “American” while others state this does not make them American. People agree with Crevecoeur that an American is a way to follow your American Dream and do things that are right for this country
Around the world, being American means many different things ranging from ignorant to arrogant. However, in America we have our own ideas of what it means to be American. There are three values that make any person American: freedom, opportunity, and equality.
The definition of an American, is someone who is a citizen of the United States. Many African Americans, and immigrants struggled to become actual Americans in their lifetimes, because others didn 't see them as actual people; and based it on the color of someone. In today 's world people who live in America consider themselves as Americans, but to me there is certain qualities that make a person an American. To me being a true American is not based off of what Country they were born in, or what race their parents are, or even if they were immigrated to the United States. People from all over the world would say that maybe people could base this off of someone 's family heritage, or where they were before they came to America. If you were asked what makes an American an American what would you base it off of? To me there are four specific characteristics that make a person a true American; those three things would be, freedom, individuality, belief in the country, and happiness.
The United States as a country has always been an entity unique amongst the world’s myriad of nations: a conglomeration of cultures, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds from around the planet, all fused together to yield something entirely new. Since its very inception, those who dwell within its borders have attempted to ascertain the makeup of the American identity, in order to pin down how exactly one can come to be considered as an American themselves. This is inherently quite a subjective issue, but the conversation primarily boils down to three core factors that make the American people who they are: a dedication to preserving the natural rights of every human being, a belief in the importance of the individual in deciding their own
How does one define who is “American?” The term “American” is referred to a person who is a native or citizen of the United States. For hundreds of years, individuals from all over the world came to the United States of America to live a new and improved life. However, the influx of these international individuals caused uproar among the citizens of the United States, which would redefine the identity of an American citizen both legally and culturally.
American, there are so many words to describe this one single person. The diversity, the love and the compassion of everyone in this country No other country, in the world can compare to our country; we are Americans. We are tolerant, diverse and both of those values mutually. It all began on July 4th 1776, on the day we declared our own independence, and this soil that you stand upon has never been the same. The truth about this nation is revealed through the acts us Americans do everyday and that we will continue to do in the future.
Being an American is more than just living in America, or being born in this country. Many people talk about being American’s and they aren't even in this country. Being an American is a way of life that people adapt into by seeing how we act. People all over the world eat the same things that we eat, so that can't really be a way of being an American. To me, being an American is embracing our ways of life, not fighting for the other guys, and loving our anthem and the flag.
What does it mean to be an American? Never given it much thought before. I just thought, "Well, I'm here. In America. The land of the free and the stupid. Americans can't drive, our government is... well lets just say decent, and it definitely isn't filled with the wisest of old men/women. The main things I feel people that were born in America focus on, is sports or becoming famous. We already have it well enough. Just because of our individual rights and all. So why not make it better by getting more money, right?" That's what I thought on a daily basis when talking to new people or just seeing new people. Who am I to criticize anyways, right? I'm not quintessential, at this moment I'm not even driving. I mean I could be just as terrible as the other Americans that think they can drive. I would like to become famous and rack in some cash as well, but I still have my mind set on college. So after thinking about it, I came to the realization that what being an American means to me is, individuality.
