My basic principle is preparing my students to face different challenges in life, particularly if they choose to contribute to lead the community where they live. For various reasons, students take my class. Often, the course is required for their major or for a job application, e.g. for those who are future high school teachers. Others take it because they are interested in some topics, e.g. students interested in world politics enroll in international relations course. Regardless of their motivation, my objective is to ensure that students acquire knowledge and set of skills that prepare them to face various challenges in their occupation.
I define learning as a process by which I help students to acquire knowledge and skills through instruction.

I want them to think about the real life experience, but not always taking the same examples from textbooks. Given my professional experience, I provide examples from my personal experience and on what I learned from my previous relationships with various world leaders. Furthermore, my students learn argumentation skills not only in person but also in writing through an online discussion forum when they are not in class. In addition to the reading, students have the opportunity to access to the lecture materials posted on Blackboard one week ahead. I believe that having early the materials helps them to participate in class by asking questions or making comments.
Interacting with individual students is part of my classroom strategy. I strive to reply all students’ emails within 24 hours. I believe that this strategy enhances trust between student and instructor. My students feel that I care about their study and their success. I often send email reminders for any upcoming assignment deadlines. Keeping a fluid communication is the driver to success. As students have different background and interests, I try to accommodate my schedule to meet with students if they require in person
can also be vital in understanding why students may act the way they do. Student development
We use the term ‘learning' all the time in everyday life, but what does it mean? Different people will have alternative views on the definition. Commonly its described as the "step-by-step process in which an individual experiences permanent, lasting changes in knowledge, behaviour, or ways of processing the world" (study.com. Wind Goodfriend). Kolb defines individual learning as "the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience" (Kolb. Experiential Learning: Experience as the Source of Learning and Development. Page 2). This skill is something most people acquire at birth and carry with them throughout their life. Acquiring chunks of information at a time: knowledge, through tasks they've been assigned or,
The key aspect of teaching is engaging the students. I can testify that I learn best when the teacher is involving me, as well as others, in the assignment. Making the material personal is a useful skill and helps the students learn at a faster rate.
This fall semester of 2014 has been an interesting and learning experience for myself. I haven’t attend school in nearly a decade and was unsure of what to expect from my teachers and myself. I would have to say being in Professor Dybala’s English 1302 to start my school day is interesting. She is an energetic professor and I’m able to feel her passion for teaching and that motivate me to try my best in her class as the rest of my classes. I was driven to do the best of my ability and whatever the outcome might be, I know I did my best.
Learning is the attainment of new information or knowledge, skills, or responses from experience that causes a fairly permanent change in behavior. There are several ways that a person or animal can learn, but no one theory is solely responsible for how they learn.
In this essay, I will explain my educational philosophy—the set of beliefs, principles, and precepts that make up the foundation of my conduct as a teacher. I believe that there are three main purposes of education: (1) developing good citizens, (2) encouraging personal self-growth, and (3) preparing students for success through job preparation and the teaching of life-skills. These three objectives are similar to the thoughts of the noted educator and philosopher Mortimore Adler.
Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal will be to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique. I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. Each student has a different learning style. I must take this into consideration because I want to provide a constructive learning opportunity for every student. I believe that every student has the potential to learn.
I want to teach students more than just the material; I want students to be able to apply skills learned in the classroom, to the real world. An important factor in teaching is to teach life skills as well as giving students the tools to survive in the real world. Teachers are like role models; at least we should look at ourselves in that way. Our job is to aid our students in becoming functional individuals in society and our experiences can be used as a guide. Taking an active part in my students learning is essential to me. Posing questions encourages students to think. This gives the students an opportunity to analyze, discuss, synthesize and apply the material in real life.
...heir students. Students today are different from the students of yesterday; therefore teachers must conform to reach this new style of student. Knowledge is relative and depends entirely upon the person, place, and or time. We must understand that the facts are not the same in every social setting and must master this in order to conform to the student’s nature. All curricular areas are important to a total education. I feel that my area of P.E. and HED are particularly important in helping kids think for themselves and make healthy life decisions. My philosophy of education is to view students as ever changing, knowledge as relative and changing with the students, and to help the students to become independent thinkers, free from the coercion of this trendy world. I feel that helping students to become independent thinkers is the best skill I can give them.
As a teacher, I have numerous personal goals. Mainly, my goal is to provide students with the opportunity and encouragement to succeed in life and to develop as free-thinking individuals in society. I consider myself a progressive and an essentialist, according to theory. I feel that students need to be given multiple opportunities to explore many different life skills that sometimes are overlooked in the education system. Testing, rote memorization, and lecture, in my opinion, do not promote students' own inquiry and does not give students opportunities to tap into their own source of knowledge that they each bring with them to the classroom. As a teacher, I hope to leave my students able to set and accomplish goals through the use of these life skills. Some teachers I have had while in hi...
For the purpose of this paper I will be describing a personal life experience and I will be applying concepts from the texts to best describe the event. I was born here in the United States (US) but, I was raised in the Dominican Republic (DR). I lived in the DR basically my entire life, I would only come to the US for vacation during summer. It was not until I turned 12 that I decided to move back to the US to continue my studies and learn the language. So I did, I moved with my uncle and his wife on the summer of 2009. At the time, they resided in the Mayfair area of Philadelphia, PA. My uncle and his wife arranged everything for school and as of August of that year I was officially enrolled in Abraham Lincoln High School. Everything was
People all around the world go through miscellaneous experiences in their lives. Every situation can affect a person in any type of way. The resulting effect does not always need be dissatisfactory; sometimes is a combination or both good and bad. Many aspects in my life have influenced my personality and how I live my life. Getting bullied in middle school has affected my life intensely, however managed to make me stand for myself, a stronger person, and not scared of what anyone says about me.
I do not think that everyone fits in one hundred percent of the time. I think there are times that we all feel out of the loop, and there are times when we feel like we do not belong. Whether we like it or not, those moments can change us and shape us. I have had times like this in my life too. One of these instances that is still affecting me to this very day has become even more prevalent in the past few months. This experience I am having has changed the way I think, act, and feel about the world surrounding me.
During my time as a student I have been able to develop the way I learn and interact with others to a degree that has also helped me to mature into a better person. I have come to believe that this maturity will help me to develop into a better thinker as well, one that has the patience to listen and take consideration of what others have to say. I consider the act of learning a two way avenue that has to be taken seriously. It is one that involves the teacher, and the protégé. It has been, and will continue to be, my absolute goal as a student to become a diligent protégé and acquire all of learning my teachers have set in front of me. The way each of them have helped me to think about how my actions, and the way I choose to study my lessons and develop as a student, has made a tremendous impact on my life. This impact is one that I will carry into the future as I myself advance in my professional studies.
Students need to be inspired to think critically. By this they comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it. I hope my students will be able to achieve their greatest potential that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We can give our children these building blocks thru education to use in decision making situations, moral value of their thoughts and actions. This will guide them to realize how their actions and decisions will affect themselves and others.
