Welding and safety Welding is the process of joining metals together; there are many forms in doing welding. There are many things that have been created that have a welding process somewhere in the making for example these are a couple of things that have had welding done to be made, cars, planes, trailers, and many more things that are smaller like: metal chairs and metal tables. It was a long time before ancients had discovered a method that was made for joining metals. Workers in the ages of iron and Bronze Age began to solve the problems of forming, casting, and alloying metals (Larry Jeffus).
The welding method was basically just a localized fusion that is growing on together to gain structure of the mechanical being welded. Welding

Electric shocks are very dangerous and preventing them is a smart choice. Preventing electric shocks is not that hard to do, the keyword is to stay dry! Never weld in the rain because will be a high chance of being shocked and it could lead to possible injuries. Arc rays are dangerous too; arc rays can burn so that’s why it is a must to wear eye, ear, and body protection. The safety awareness that the welder should have is to make sure to know if the connections are tight, including the ground and if the electrode holder and welding cable is insulated well. To know if the engine driven welder is okay to use, make sure it is running okay and if all the hoses are tight, before starting take a look at the fuel cap and make sure it’s tight. Safety is a critical thing for any welding …show more content…
Knowing how to fix stress cracks, reinforce weak joints by welding on steel support plates, or cutting and shaping parts and adapters out of raw steel plating is an asset worth its weight in gold (yesterday’s tractors). Welding is what moves the world in many ways because of the fact that the transportation and technology we have today had welding done somewhere in the process of making. Gas welding is a process in which coalescence is done by having a gas flame directed over the metal where a filler rod may or may not be used to intermix with the molten puddle. The energy required for welding develops from combustion of fuel with either air or oxygen. The most commonly used fuels are acetylene, map gas which is basically stabilized methyl acetylene propadiene, and hydrogen (Giachino, Weeks,
scientific experiments (Go welding: history of welding 1). Conventional welding is most easily explained as arc welding processes. Some arc welding processes are TIG welding, Stick Welding(SMAW), and MIG welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding this means that using tungsten as a electrode and an inert gas, which is usually argon, the weld is produced by creating an arc between the piece being welded and the tungsten electrode. SMAW or stick welding utilizes a stick electrode held in a clamp surrounded by a powdered substance to weld. Mig welding uses a machine that holds a wire feeder within it, the wire feeder feeds the wire electrode through a tube to a gun that slowly sends out the wire as well as a steady flow of inert gas. These and other processes classified as conventional welding processes are the best processes for welding jobs because they are more cost effective, more...
Career Education Advisor states that welding is relatively dangerous work, done in some potentially hazardous environments. Welders work with electrical currents, large machinery, and heavy parts in conditions that include factories and construction sites. Management-level welders spend time on work sites as well as in the office (Career Education Advisor). Finally, every occupation has advantages
Oxy- fuel welding is usually called in workplace/trades terms oxy acetylene welding, gas welding and oxy fuel cutting which are all use fuel and oxygen to cut and weld metals together. It all started with the famous chemist Edmund Davy, who is suppose to be considered as the first man to make acetylene. By accident in 1836 Edmund while trying to make potassium created a black compound which was mixed with water create a gas that burned greatly. Edmund wanted to use this gas to make lights but the materials and production would cost to much. Calcium carbide was not identified until 1862. In 1892 calcium carbide was created by accident when trying to create calcium from coal tar when the production reacted with water.
What is welding some may ask. “Welding is the use of brazing or soldering to join together or split apart pieces of metal.” Says miller electric inc. The First recorded forms of welding was from the bronze age when metal boxes were made by “pressure welding lap joints together.” In medieval times welding was used by hammer to forge weapons of different types. “It was actually not until the late 1800’s that traditional welding
Friction stir welding is a solid state welding process; this remarkable up-gradation of friction welding was invented in 1991 in The Welding Institute [1]. Figure 1 shows the schematic representation of the Friction Stir Welding process. The process starts with clamping the plates to be welded to a backing plate, so that the plates do not fly away during the welding process. A rotating wear resistant tool is plunged on the interface between the plates to a predetermined depth and moved forward in the interface between the plates to form the weld. The external tool has a probe and shoulder which stirs the material to be joined and forges the surface. FSW comes together with forging and extrusion processes. The probe and shoulder extrudes the material by stirring and the shoulder alone forges the material surface to be joined.
Welders can use hand held welders or even robotic welders to produce welds. Both equally requiring a incredible amount of knowledge. They can also fill holes, produce structures and build custom parts for automotive race shops. Welders often work fulltime on shipyards, oil rigs, and pipelines or anywhere else where a specific job is needed. Welders are often required to interpret blueprints or sketches and weld accordingly to fulfill job duties. Arc welding is the most common type of welding today and is what most welders use. (bls) There are over 100 different welding processes that a welder can learn how to use however, Stick, Tig and Mig are the 3 most common used in the industry. These are used most to maintain equipment
Welding started back in the medieval days. But there was only one welding process, and it was called forge welding. Forge welding is the use of heating metal, shaping it (by pounding it with a hammer), then cooling it. People back then had to go to their local black smith go get things fixed. Some tasks required black smiths to be extremely precise, and have an even level of thickness throughout the piece of metal that they are foraging.

In doing so, they weld metal parts, fill holes, and can even repair cracks in a brace. Because of its heavy duty strength, welds can be used to repair cars, ships, and even airplanes. Also, welds are used in the construction of buildings and bridges. Various tools are needed to perform proper welding techniques, for example, a person may need clamps, welding rods, a chipping hammer, a torch, glasses, a welding helmet, an apron or non flammable clothing to properly weld metal. In addition, a person may also need a specific type of welder for a certain occasions.
The first evidence of welding dated all the way back to the bronze age. The first people that found out how to weld were the Egyptians the Egyptians were smart enough to figure out how to weld. In the 19th century they figured out they could use acetylene for welding. A Englishman named Edmund Davy is the one that discovered acetylene in 1836. Then in 1880 Auguste De Meritens figured out how to fuse two lead plates together from the heat generated by an arc. Then in 1890 C.L Coffin discovered carbon arc welding which is one of the most common welding process used in today's world. Then in 1900 is were welding got introduced to a lot more advanced welding such as, seam welding, spot welding, flash butt welding, projection welding, and also electrodes were invented at the same time. A electrode is a piece of metal coated in lime to make the arc much more stable which results in better welding turn out. Then in 1919 CJ Holstag discovered alternating current. Then in 1920 P.O Nobel invented automatic welding which is a big thing in today's world. Then in 1930 New York Navy Yard developed stud welding which is used mainly for the construction industry. Then in the 1960s more welding techniques were developed such as, dualshield welding, innershield welding, and electroslag welding were
One main category of welding is arc welding. Arc welding uses a current sent from an electrode, through the base metal, and back into the ground clamp on your welder. This arc creates a tiny spot of immense heat that melts the metal around it, thus creating a weld puddle, or the puddle of molten metal. Within arc welding there are MIG, TIG, and stick welding.

Welding is an art, science, and high paying career all in one. Welding is the most effective way to join two pieces of metal, it is the only way to join them so they act as one. Numerous things in our daily lives has been welded from coffeepots to skyscrapers. Welding can be done almost anywhere outdoors, indoors, underwater, and even space (“Welding Basics”). It is practically

There is different types of rods and different types of ways to weld. You need a lot of training for it. There are many schools and colleges you can go to receive welding education. The most common welding processes are Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and Shielded Metal Arc Welding. The easiest of these is the Gas Metal Arc Welding. Welding options are stick, flux core, tig, and mig. The pipeline tig and stick welds a lot more than the other .The pipeline use many types of techniques but, the most common on the pipeline is downhill root pass and the up hill pass. The median annual wage of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is
